Absolutely. As said, go in blind. But be patient - I nearly gave up about 30 minutes in, which is when things start to come together.

The sequel is on YouTube and is hugely entertaining too

I said this when I first watched one cut of the dead, but even knowing there was a twist ruined it for me. Which I pretty much figured out because of everyone saying to go in blind haha. I had no idea what it was I just knew I shouldn't be taking it at face value. The result was me watching an unbelievably terrible zombie movie that I knew was going to turn into something else (honestly it was so bad I would have probably figured out something was up with it regardless of people recommending it) and then it turned into a dramedy I just got bored with and turned off 20 minutes before it ended. I feel like the only context I could have appreciated that movie would have been completely stumbling on it myself and even then it would have seemed pretty novel because I didn't really care about what was going on at any point

Christopher Nolan liked Watchmen a lot so when he was producing a Superman movie he had neither interest nor time to direct, he gave it to Snyder. WB at that time believed they were the "director's studio" which was easy to believe because of Nolan. Unfortunately for them, freedom for directors means they won't just get any average mass market blockbuster they want. And that is how Snyder became a legend for his fans and how he became some sort of Don Quixote windmill monster for WB leadership.

It helps that he's generally nice and non-toxic in an industry known for assholes.

My partner likes crime movies/psychological thrillers, some of the stuff we've watched the last few nights:
Great:
Frailty (Prime)
Good/Fun:
Layer Cake (Prime)
Bad:
Lucky Number Slevin (Hulu)

Was Lucky Number Slevin the one where the Jewish mafia and the black mafia hire Bruce Willis to kill a seemingly random guy but it turns out Bruce and the target is executing an elaborate revenge plan against the mafia bosses that they planned for decades?

Yeah. I would have liked it more if the Josh Hartnett character really was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I think you could categorize Les Revenants broadly as "trying to do something new with the zombie concept". Man I really loved that series. Great soundtrack too.

I never seen Z Nation, but I heard it was a spin off. Only reason I watched because I was sick in bed a few years ago. It was a pleasant surprise given how burnt out I was on zombies.

Remember the days of getting excited about the new upcoming TWD series? My Dawn of the Dead (OG version) loving rear end was so excited. Ahh to be that young and naive again.
