My partner made me watch detective pikachu

It was bad! And not even fun-bad like the old cartoon show was, just lame

The trailer for the new mortal combat wasn't very good but the clip of 'why do scorpion and sub zero hate each other so much' was metal af, so I guess I will have to watch that to find out

it really pushes hard on nostalgia and not even particularly deep nostalgia just the kinds focus groups are most likely to vaguely remember

the designs are neat but at the end of the day the movies all gimmick and no point and you can get the same self satisfied i got the reference buzz watching any of the random anime movies instead

I like Hack Synder mainly coz of the insane hatred he gets

Mind you I did rewatch 300 a little while ago and holy loving poo poo I agree that movie is super irresponsible if he wasn't trying to enflame everyone's anti Eastern deathdrives after 9/11.
Its basically nativist propaganda complete with a corrupt religion obsessed with gold manipulating society on behalf of a grinning evil black man.
It really doesn't hold up lol

With his other stuff it seems like a lot of it is both extremely simple visual filmmaking and also still goes over people's heads and makes them mad.

I do think it's funny the snyder fans got vindicated with justice league and got hyped for his rehabilitation then he squeezed out a turd of a zombie film

i watched Beavis and Butthead Do America last night and it's still pretty funny. the animation sequence when they have their freak out in the desert is so fuckin good.

this got me to remembering the show Step By Step (ya know, from TGIF) and how at one point the show had two ancillary characters who were friends of JT and, for some reason, these two guys were written to be live action Beavis and Butthead characters.

a lot of the older prime video is weird ancient artifacts they got from taking over old contracts that are just lying around that noones bothered to renegotiate

if you try to watch older subtitled movies its really obvious because they wont be formatted correctly and every so often you get weird symbols in the middle of captions

it's not even just old movies or obscure titles. I been rewatching TNG and DS9 on Netflix lately and sometimes within the same episode the captions change from allcaps to normal text and back, and the caption accuracy is.... questionable. Entire words missing, statements that aren't remotely what was actually said, zero effort was put into this even for what were major big budget shows with established audiences.

the big studios who own all the good poo poo started clamming up when they all got into developing their own streaming services. that's why netflix has been funding anything it could get its hands on, because there was obviously a crunch coming on all their external content.

I love all the weird stuff on Prime. The other day I watched this Chinese home renovation show called "Dream Home" where they fixed up this old couple's tiny apartment with no toilet and an adult NEET son who lived in a loft upstairs watching porn on his computer all day and crapping in a bucket.

in this context stuff from the nineties also qualifies as old but im genuinely surprised to learn netflix didnt bother to fix this stuff for shows that people actually watch

its pretty hilarious how loving bad and stupid the current streaming ecosystem is right now. theres a million loving services out there right now

they are all dogshit in terms of design too. netflix will happily put you into your own content corner, and never ever ever let you out. prime loving sucks and loves to charge you for other lovely streaming services. tried to sign up for a hulu free trial to watch some garbage but they would not recognize any of my email accounts, so no hulu ever for me i guess. i hate them all so much

it's correct about what lens is used and incorrect when it's writing wanky fanfic about how everyone who works with this guy must hate him.

like you ring up the focus puller and explain that your entire film that you want to hire them to work on is a showcase for their one specific talent and that's meant to make this person mad? these people know nothing about anything.

I wish it were possible in our current cultural context to admit that something, say a MCU or Zach Snyder movie, was “bad” or “hack” or “formulaic,” while still maintaining that you enjoyed it*. I will poo poo on Marvel movies all day long but that part in Endgame where Cap picks up Mjolnir? gently caress yeah I would like to see that. the entire lovely movie was worth it for that and it owned.

*oddly though I feel like nobody has a problem doing this with FF movies. bloggers and youtubers aren’t trying to opine on their artistic merits; they’re trash, and they’re great. it’s ok to enjoy a Big Mac and not maintain that it’s the pinnacle of artisanal burger technology. that franchise is the only example of this reaction I can think of, though, on everything else people are willing to die on the hill of “this is peak cinema” and “this is jarbage”
