Some day the community will have to come to terms with the fact that they threw so much money at some guy from the 90's who didn't really understand technology today and was already equipped with a history of shifty behavior after he exited the industry, pretty much by force because he could not complete a project, that it is ultimately their fault they screwed up development of anything.

They built a money tree, wishing it converted into a development fountain that spent good money on equality people to complete a project.

Of course there may still be people out there who are all "oh we had a vote 7 years ago and all this is our fault and CR is innocently doing what we told him to do!" Despite Chris having no history to do anything anybody suggested ever in his history and especially in this video game unless you want to count the 10 for the Chairman where he said "yes absolutely" to literally every question that came in.

Companies work on a budget because it's very common business practice and understanding to know that infinite time and infinite money never results in a good anything. You need constraints and deadlines and limits... and that's where people work best and how you build anything at all.

Very basic stuff uses terminology like an iron triangle, and this concept consists of Time, Scope, and Cost, all things that need to be weighed and managed properly for a project to succeed. This is super basic business 101 that people have not held CIG to.. and now they are just a textbook example of failure.

And as I've said before, CIG failed years ago when they blew past all their deadlines, and the integrity of their CEO as a leader blew to poo poo when (regardless of the rumors about his behavior to employees) "absolved himself" of the responsibility of upholding his promises to his customers.

Sure sc may some day come out, but it is hugely beyond budget, massively out of scope, and took way too long. They failed every business best practice to be successful. The only reason they keep going is because apparently people love a train wreck and want to keep buying dlc for $$$$'s, which is totally fine.

If they see value, more power to them. :)

:five: :five: :five:

Excellent summation.

It officially failed when crobbler came on screen sweating like a Christmas ham, turning bright red, and absolved himself. he knew he had failed. He was ashamed and embarrassed he expected to be berated. Some how backers swallows it.

I wonder jf he thinks he can redeam himself after restarting the project,.... Not going well in 2021.

Maybe a 5 million dollar mansion is enough to convince yourself that your doing a great honest job delivering what people want.

I loaded up the tutorial and crashed to desktop halfway through, but it did save my progress. Once I went online, I found myself in my old ship in an asteroid field. I zipped out of there and headed to the nearest space station. I got out of my ship and walked around, rode an elevator and it didn't jank. I talked to some quest NPCs and they were not T-posing. I wandered around the bar. I couldn't find a Hairy Roberts, but I did buy some new weapons and armor.

My first mission was to steal some illegal data. I landed at the settlement with my guns out, but I didn't know the button to put them away. I died instantly from the base defense turret getting angry at me.

I woke up in prison, paid my fines, and left. I mostly played alt-tabbed out while my character traveled to my destination.

My second mission was to an abandoned base, where again I was supposed to acquire some data. I forgot to bring a power regulator. I left to go find one.

I landed at a third base, walked around without my weapons out, heard "Scan Detected" and was shot dead by guards just after they greeted me.

Star Citizen is out, it's called "Elite: Dangerous".

Yeah Odyssey is definitely a mess. The roadmap FDev released for bug fixing the current product is almost CIG-like in its uselessness:

quote:

Update 3 – Thursday 10th June
Many improvements and fixes, including
Loadout UI flow changes
Adding earned ARX for on-foot gameplay
Update 4 – Thursday 17th June
Many improvements and fixes, including
Suit Livery UI flow changes
Codex CMDR stats
Update 5 – Thursday 24th June
Many improvements and fixes, including
Shared missions
Galaxy & system map UI updates
Outfitting UI updates

We're used to it coming from Clown Imperium but as someone said on ObsidianAnt's latest video, FDev's latest effort looks like something a kid throws together during class a minute before the teacher asks everyone to hand in their road map homework.

So someone in starcitizen_refunds actually reads the lore that gets posted and found something hilarious and amazing. I bolded out the notable parts that will help you read the subtext on this one - also included an archive link in case someone else at CIG catches on to this writer

quote:

Welcome to Showdown, the debate show focused on the day’s most pressing issues. I’m your moderator in the middle, Eria Quint. Coming up later on the show we’ll dig into what might be causing the labor shortage in Magnus; is the system’s reputation as an outlaw haven still valid and is it discouraging qualified workers from seeking employment there?

But first, we’re only days away from the launch of annual Invictus celebrations across the UEE. Introduced in 2542 as a way for the Navy to pick up new recruits during the First Tevarin War, it became an annual event in 2581 and expanded its festivities to include a showcase of the latest technological additions to the Naval fleet. Invictus celebrations have become a beloved event for many, but others wonder if the festivities are bad for the empire.

Here to discuss Invictus are two guests who view the event from very different perspectives. Arthur Warro is an economist and political consultant best known for helping craft the Polo Initiative. Gavin Vidyapith is an author and activist with Safe & Strong, a pro-military political action committee devoted to ensuring all UEE systems receive proper protection.

I’d like to welcome both of them back to the show. Let’s start with you, Gavin. You recently wrote that Invictus ranks as “the most important and vital celebration held by the UEE every year.” Why do you believe that?
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Because our empire is only as strong as those who defend it. This includes politicians dedicated to upholding the rule of law, Ark historians focused on preserving the incredible history of Humanity’s achievements, and, most importantly, the brave starmen who put their lives on the line to defend the empire every day. Invictus puts that last group front and center so we can honor and celebrate their sacrifice.

Do you have any Invictus traditions?
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: The family and I always spend a day checking out the ships. If there’s fireworks and a fly-by, we’ll stick around for that even if it’s after some of our bedtimes.

I’ll assume yours.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: [laughter] As they say, early to bed, early to rise… Oh, I always, always buy that year’s Invictus hat and t-shirt. Not sure if everyone knows this, but all proceeds from Launch Week go towards supporting the Navy. I like knowing that my family’s fun funds are going towards something so worthwhile.

How about you, Arthur? How many Invictus hats do you own?

ARTHUR WARRO: None, since I never wear hats or attend Invictus. But now that I think about it, everyone who attends should be given one since our tax credits pay for them. Doubt the Navy would be into that since it’s got a nice little scheme going. Use taxpayer funds to manufacture a hat and then turn around to sell them to the people who really paid for them.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Would you prefer Navy starmen on street corners ringing a charity bell?

ARTHUR WARRO: I know you’re kidding, Gavin, but I actually like that idea. It would definitely humanize the Navy by having starmen interacting directly with the public.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Which is basically Invictus. Here I thought you were against it, but now you’re advocating for a version of it on every street corner.

ARTHUR WARRO: I’m all for more transparency, people actually getting to know the brave starmen defending our empire, which is part of the reason why Invictus rubs me the wrong way. Invictus doesn’t represent the real Navy, it represents what the Navy wants people to think of it. Some starman on a street corner asking for support or talking directly to a potential recruit would be way more honest about what military service is like than during some scripted Invictus ship tour with their CO monitoring everything they say.

Let’s step back for a second, Arthur. Your main issue is that Invictus feels like a misrepresentation?

ARTHUR WARRO: It’s not my main issue, just one of many.

Then, please, elaborate?

ARTHUR WARRO: First and foremost, who do you think is paying for the event? That’s right, taxpayers. From my time in government, the annual budget for the event was consistently astronomical. Those are a lot of taxpayer credits going towards what’s effectively a parade rather than education programs or vital infrastructure projects that fight every year for a fraction of those costs.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: The Navy has every right to spend its budget however it wants, whether that be on a new line of new ships or by putting on these events celebrating their starmen.

ARTHUR WARRO: Last year, the Navy specifically listed rising Invictus costs as one of the reasons it was seeking a 7% increase to its budget. This cost isn’t coming out of its general fund, it’s a specific line item that’s been used as an excuse to inflate its budget for years.

What do you think, Gavin? Is all the money spent on the event worth it?

GAVIN VIDYAPITH: I think looking at it through a strictly monetary lens is a bit simplistic. The Navy considers Invictus a net positive, not only because it drives recruitment, but it also generates goodwill with the public. Most people love seeing the power of the Navy up close and personal.

ARTHUR WARRO: Yeah, I agree. The event makes war tourism fun and acceptable.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Oh, come on now—

ARTHUR WARRO: Don’t worry about the specifics of what’s happening on the Vanduul front. Don’t ask what benchmarks must be reached before we consider the war against the Vanduul “won.” Don’t worry that one out of every fifteen children in the UEE is living in poverty. Give us more taxpayer money so we can keep building massive ships that maybe someday you’ll get to tour after watching some colorful explosions in the sky.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Invictus has been a cherished tradition in this empire for 370 years. Last I checked we haven’t been engaged in a war that entire time. Have we, Arthur?

ARTHUR WARRO: Never said we were.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Yet you imply that the Navy wishes we were for their own benefit.

ARTHUR WARRO: I’m not implying that either.
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: And now you just are going to sit here and deny, deny—

Gavin, please. Let me interject to ask you, Arthur, what point were you trying to make?

ARTHUR WARRO: Simply that no matter what the Navy or Gavin here wants you to believe, Invictus isn’t about the brave starmen of the Navy. The real beneficiaries of Invictus are the ship manufacturers that are capitalizing on the free publicity the Navy is giving their ships. The clear implication being that if you don’t fully fund the Navy to allow it to buy these ships then you won’t be safe. It’s just so ingrained in the fabric of this empire that we can’t see it anymore.

We need to take a quick break—
GAVIN VIDYAPITH: Hold on, Eria, I need to respond to that.

Don’t worry, you’ll have your chance, but first we do need to step away for a quick commercial break. When we return Gavin Vidyapith and Arthur Warro will continue this spirited conversation around Invictus. Then we’ll look into what’s going on in Magnus. The economy is booming but does the system have enough workers to make this success sustainable. Don’t go anywhere, there’s more Showdown coming back shortly.

I'd argue the incompetent in-your-face lying came later, years after promising those features, when they became untenable to ignore. By that moment, Citizens have been trained to only believe what they saw through the telescope, and the added confidence that hundreds of thousands of other suckers surrounding themselves with generative comforting lies for every delay/non-delivery/speed-bump/letdown, means Citizens don't even acknowledge, much less get concerned about, the technical theatre being performed. In a sense, nearly all of them are still looking through the telescope.

In fact, the only times Citizens have reacted negatively to something CR/CIG did, was when the thing done actively made the Citizens themselves look like suckers and apologists and cultists, like the CitCon paid streaming tickets or the referral system. Citizens are able to better deflect criticism of those labels if the Citizens themselves generatively embrace those aspects without CIG overtly dictating that behavior.

Ah I guess it would depend on the era of Star Citizen you are looking at, so sure. :)

I'm pretty confident none of this started off as a bold scam and CR genuinely believed in what he said.

I think during the 10 for the Chairman stuff and at the end of the customer service nightmares they realized they could literally say anything and be inundated with money.

It's not technically CR and crews fault, these backers want to pay for lies and you can't change their minds.

This right here. This is why I don't believe the truly hardcore of backers, however few they are, will ever truly admit defeat. They will never admit they got scammed. They will never admit they made a poor "investment" by becoming El Gordo Segundo or whatever title you get for giving CIG five figures of real American dollars. Hell, if CIG closed tomorrow, and Crobbler Himself posted a "LOL GET hosed SPACE NERDS" on Twitter with a video of him personally lighting their servers on fire, I'd be surprised if they even admitted that development is over and the game is formally dead.

We live in a world in which reality is whatever you'd like it to be, so long as you're plugged into the intertubes. A non-trivial percentage of the world population truly believes that reptilians living in the hollow earth are running Satanic baby-eating cabals out of pizza parlor basements. They will attest to it and make critical personal decisions based on their belief. They will vote for people like Jewish Space Laser just because she shares that belief. Compared to that, believing that SC was strangled in its crib (lol) by agents of the AAA mega-publisher conspiracy and FUD-spewing internet trolls, and that "a real dev build exists on a private server somewhere, guys, no really, it's real and it's SPECTACULAR," is small potatoes. They are immune to reality.

These people will ride for SC well after the lights are turned off in CR's scam-mansion. They will never admit they are wrong. It'd be inspiring if it wasn't so terrifying.

You know.. the thing is... it works or thousands of other people every day. When people have issues we usually get to the bottom if it fairly soon... hardware failure/ancient relic issues we can't help with. Starting off by raging at a thing many thousands use perfectly well everyday is only going to attract negativity.

Here is my boiler-plate guide for new installs, use it or not - your choice.

To prepare for the game:

Uninstall the RSI Launcher app from Settings - Apps and Features. Right click the Windows start icon on the taskbar and choose 'Run' - type in the dialogue box 'Appdata', in the folder that opens click the 'Roaming' folder and in that folder find and delete the RSI Launcher folder and 'rsilauncher' folder.

A. If you have an NVidia GPU - Go to the NVidia website and download the standalone driver for your GPU. Go to Windows Settings Apps and Features - uninstall all NVidia software and drivers. Turn your PC off for a few minutes (not just a restart). Re-install the NVidia drivers you downloaded and make sure to choose 'Custom' and 'Clean Install'. Install the GPU driver, the PhysX software and the Audio driver if you use it - DON'T install the two 3D vision drivers. Turn your PC off, and restart it.

B. Go to the Microsoft website and download Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.5.2 - install them and restart your PC.

C. Make sure your SSD is formatted to NTFS. Google 'how to set custom pagefile in Windows 10' - follow the instructions set the pagefile on the SSD. Set Minimum: 20480Gb and Maximum: 32780GB. Apply and restart your PC.

D. Create a folder on the root of your newly formatted SSD. Call it RSI - this is now your game root folder.

E. Re-install the latest RSI Launcher app from the CIG website to the game root folder (RSI) on your SSD NOT to the default C:/Program Files/ location.

F. Run the RSI Launcher and sign in - DO NOT HIT INSTALL! Sign in to your RSI website account and go to your 'My Hangar page' - don't skip this part.

G. On the RSI Launcher app check that at the right side it says 'Live' in blue writing. Go to the Settings tab on the left. Scroll down to where it says 'Library Folder' make sure the install path for the game files is your game root folder 'RSI'. If not browse to it.

F. On the Settings tab find the box that says 'Verfiy' click it and the game will install. Let it install and close the RSI website.

G. Once the game has been installed right click your desktop and choose 'NVidia Control Panel' - on the right hand panel choose 'Manage 3D settings' - select the 'Program Settings' tab. In the drop down list look for 'Squadron 42 - Star Citizen' (if it isn't there choose browse and go to the game root folder - 'StarCitizen/Live/Bin64' - folder and choose the StarCitizen.exe file. In the box below scroll to the bottom to find 'Vertical Sync' - set it to 'Adaptive' and apply.

Run the RSI Launcher, start the game.

In the game go to Options 'Graphics' and disable VSync.

Good luck have fun, welcome to the verse.
