Excellent summation. It officially failed when crobbler came on screen sweating like a Christmas ham, turning bright red, and absolved himself. he knew he had failed. He was ashamed and embarrassed he expected to be berated. Some how backers swallows it. I wonder jf he thinks he can redeam himself after restarting the project,.... Not going well in 2021. Maybe a 5 million dollar mansion is enough to convince yourself that your doing a great honest job delivering what people want.

I loaded up the tutorial and crashed to desktop halfway through, but it did save my progress. Once I went online, I found myself in my old ship in an asteroid field. I zipped out of there and headed to the nearest space station. I got out of my ship and walked around, rode an elevator and it didn't jank. I talked to some quest NPCs and they were not T-posing. I wandered around the bar. I couldn't find a Hairy Roberts, but I did buy some new weapons and armor. My first mission was to steal some illegal data. I landed at the settlement with my guns out, but I didn't know the button to put them away. I died instantly from the base defense turret getting angry at me. I woke up in prison, paid my fines, and left. I mostly played alt-tabbed out while my character traveled to my destination. My second mission was to an abandoned base, where again I was supposed to acquire some data. I forgot to bring a power regulator. I left to go find one. I landed at a third base, walked around without my weapons out, heard "Scan Detected" and was shot dead by guards just after they greeted me. Star Citizen is out, it's called "Elite: Dangerous".

Yeah, I figured it out afterwards. I just couldnt' do it in the middle of combat. In my 4th mission I casually strolled past a security guard who wanted to scan me, turning the base hostile because I wasn't paying close attention Chris Roberts and Braben should get together.

What we're working on next is AI so lifelike it's like humans and capital ships where the inside is so real it has trains in it and is as big as a battlefield map! Probably two of them!"

Bootcha posted:I'd argue the incompetent in-your-face lying came later, years after promising those features, when they became untenable to ignore. By that moment, Citizens have been trained to only believe what they saw through the telescope, and the added confidence that hundreds of thousands of other suckers surrounding themselves with generative comforting lies for every delay/non-delivery/speed-bump/letdown, means Citizens don't even acknowledge, much less get concerned about, the technical theatre being performed. In a sense, nearly all of them are still looking through the telescope. Ah I guess it would depend on the era of Star Citizen you are looking at, so sure. I'm pretty confident none of this started off as a bold scam and CR genuinely believed in what he said. I think during the 10 for the Chairman stuff and at the end of the customer service nightmares they realized they could literally say anything and be inundated with money. It's not technically CR and crews fault, these backers want to pay for lies and you can't change their minds.

The Titanic posted:It's not technically CR and crews fault, these backers want to pay for lies and you can't change their minds. This right here. This is why I don't believe the truly hardcore of backers, however few they are, will ever truly admit defeat. They will never admit they got scammed. They will never admit they made a poor "investment" by becoming El Gordo Segundo or whatever title you get for giving CIG five figures of real American dollars. Hell, if CIG closed tomorrow, and Crobbler Himself posted a "LOL GET hosed SPACE NERDS" on Twitter with a video of him personally lighting their servers on fire, I'd be surprised if they even admitted that development is over and the game is formally dead. We live in a world in which reality is whatever you'd like it to be, so long as you're plugged into the intertubes. A non-trivial percentage of the world population truly believes that reptilians living in the hollow earth are running Satanic baby-eating cabals out of pizza parlor basements. They will attest to it and make critical personal decisions based on their belief. They will vote for people like Jewish Space Laser just because she shares that belief. Compared to that, believing that SC was strangled in its crib (lol) by agents of the AAA mega-publisher conspiracy and FUD-spewing internet trolls, and that "a real dev build exists on a private server somewhere, guys, no really, it's real and it's SPECTACULAR," is small potatoes. They are immune to reality. These people will ride for SC well after the lights are turned off in CR's scam-mansion. They will never admit they are wrong. It'd be inspiring if it wasn't so terrifying. Edit: punctuation r hard
