Same. I still read BFV as Battlefield: Vietnam :okboomer:

I think it's a good sign they're using elements from 2142 because it means they recognize it as a good Battlefield and it was. I think it was honestly the best playing Battlefield since 1942. It really refined all the goodness of BF2.

Through a lens of Verhoevenian satire, Hardline is actually pretty good. Honestly it was a pretty good feeling Battlefield mechanically too imo.

I’m going to do some wild speculation but with a name like “Hazard Zone” and it being “squad based” that suggests to my Gamer Instincts some kind of quasi-survival situation with an ever-present environmental threat, not a closing ring like BR games but just something which constantly drains a specific resource, and mildly limited other things like ammo and health. 2-4 squads will have to complete some random objective in the middle-ish of a map, they won’t necessarily have the exact same one in the exact same place, and then leave. With bots apparently being in the main multiplayer there may be some around to make you shoot them so you make noise and alert other players. You don’t technically have to shoot other squads but, come on, you’re going to. Basically something along the lines of Survival mode in Division 1, Tarkov, or Hunt Showdown. More points for time taken, players alive, players killed, etc.

I would if it was, you know, good. Mindlessly blasting through a series of scripted explosions can be fun. There have been good parts of BF campaigns - the tank levels in BF3 (until the level where you have to die) come to mind - and Bad Company 2 rockets along on the strength of its comedy and sound design but otherwise yeah.

Interesting reveal for sure, looks like it's going to be a fun game. I really hope they don't go too overboard with the cosmetics though and keep them military styled. Kinda would suck to have a neon pink dude on the battlefield.

Game modes seem a bit lacking though with only 3? Guess they are removing the classics like rush, or maybe that secretive 3rd mode which they said older players will love will be something like that?

They're likely going to have them because everything has said focusing on Conquest and Breakthrough.

That's what I'm thinking. Apex had a fantastic launch, languished for a bit, then had a huge resurgence in the past year. They probably don't want to dent their own growth trajectory with a similar product.

I'm wondering what this "love letter to long time fans" game mode is supposed to be.

I mean, conquest is in, what else would tickle our fancies? I mean I guess Rush is kinda old school at this point but that's not really worth teasing as a secret mode in development is it?

It sounds like the main game mode is a combo of conquest and other game types, I wouldn’t be surprised if they implemented some type of rush component to that mode and then had it has its own side game mode as well.

It looks good, I am glad we're upping the player count, I am liking that more games are doing 50v50 so 64v64 with huge maps is something I am looking forward to. Hopefully they pull it off, but seems like they know what made BF4 good.

Game ships with 10 classes/specialists and plans for more as DLC. Are they masochists when it comes to gameplay balance? That sounds insane unless it’s just lazy “these two supports are identical except one has health kits and the other has ammo.”
