I mean, is it really that cold corporate focus group to say "well we've strayed from the core of the franchise setting for 7 years so let's get back to it"?

Was just mentioning it as to why it might be rubbing some people wrong since it is still really blatant all things considered. Plus Battlefield 1982 would have been nice, just saying. Close enough to scratch that "modern warfare" itch for people, but keeping the aesthetic distinct from just "BF 3/4 again, but now featuring Boston Dynamics and Tornadoes"

Though admittedly both of those things are why I'm willing to give :dice: the benefit of the doubt for this one since they're both cool as all hell.

BF1 was an amazing game, intuitive on every level, Heck the respawn timer of the vehicles was even representing in an amazing way. I loved the pace and the costumes and the levels and the destructible environments.

This game looks like its gonna be quite different and I'm ok with that. bring on the near future paintball game with vehicles and tornados

Yes, ps5 and Xbox being able to play together would be cool. Maybe we'll find out more during the gameplay reveal.

I just have friends on all platforms and we have all played BF since BF3, but never together.

COD MW having cross-platform brought us all together during COVID so it was loving fantastic being locked inside and playing games with my friends on all systems. being able to steamroll a lobby with a crew of 6 or have 4v4 custom games was some of the best fun Ive had in a FPS in fuckin years.

Tying everyone to specific characters instead of just doing it like BF5 *promised* to do with class archetypes with more specialized abilities while allowing people to make whoever they want for customization does seem to kinda clash with their whole "War fought by PMCs and ragtag groups of people from various backgrounds and nationalities" idea and kinda a bummer since the character customization was one of the few things BF5 did sort of right.

So the characters are totally replacing traditional classes?

Here's my dumb fan-boy prediction:

We're limited to one of each character in our squads, all other squads will be portrayed as generic class soliders so not to break ~*~immersion~*~.

To "bring us into the game world" the characters will banter with one another during the map and flesh out their stories and the setting.

Speculation, dragging bodies in BF5 did whatever the tornado is going to do and that’s why we never got it in 5. For 2042 they figured out how to put a tornado texture over the effect.

If they're ditching classes I don't really get the point in having premade dudes for games that aren't "hero shooters" (including Siege in this category) vs a character creator. It's not like they each have distinct profiles or visual identities that'll tell you what they're likely to do like a TF2 or an Apex or what have you.

No classes is... weird. Seems like the usual MO of EA chasing trends rather than doing anything interesting. I mean with 128 players why even loving bother? It makes sense in Siege and Overwatch and poo poo, because they're a much smaller scale and thus team comp actually matters. In Battlefield, though? There's 64 people on your team, you will have every single "character" covered.

It's a very weird choice. Maybe they'll surprise us and it won't be stupid as gently caress, but I'm definitely skeptical.

If anything, V was the result of cold focus group testing what with them trying to simplify everything, push GAMES AS A SERVICE and constantly pushing "e-sports ready" modes that none of the players wanted.

It seems like they still have classes, just with the specialist you pick being an extra perk within the class. So if you want to play support and use the support gadgets you also pick a specialist that gives you extra stuff. Maybe I misunderstood it though.

Honestly saying BF5 was the result of anything but sheer unadulterated chaos is doing a disservice even to focus groups.

I wish one day someone will drop a detailed postmortem on 5's development, since it's obvious there was A LOT going wrong with it from concept all the way to when they pulled the plug.

I just wish it didn't make you load the whole rear end HD player model every time you tried to change classes

I passed on V at launch and only picked it up about two months ago. Seems fine? Maybe it's a case where I didn't play at launch or something, but I'm having a pretty good time with it. Not nearly a good as 1 or 4, but not a horrorshow.

The Operators and skins are the worst part of CODMW (and I guess Cold War but i dont play cheap rip offs of COD)

without even touching on the gimp-suit skin that makes you mostly invisible (and you can only get it by buying it for $24) facing off against a team of just 6 people comprised of unique skins makes team play a bit of a pain in the rear end, especially when a teammates marker/name shows up and overlaps.

once again, the system used in Halo 3 was fine - custom armor that is the colour of your team.

You missed where the patch that made tanks not invisible made soldiers invisible instead, I guess.

Or the Germans jumping out of American planes with British SAS officers. Which they didn't want to fix because it would slow down map rollout, for reasons.

I had a great time with BFV despite the flaws. The biggest issue was them playing with the TTK making it a lot less fun for large portions of the game's life.

Are we going to have 40 of the same specialist skin playing? Just an army of named characters.

I don't expect they'll replace them with generic soldier skins so you'll only see your squad with named guys because thatd defeat the purpose of buying a $30 skin to show off to other players.
