The description on that last listing isn't the worst, thankfully, but I hate when the language is like "here's a pristine, perfectly preserved example of high design [old awesome style] for you to In other news, husband and I went on a walk and met the new neighbor moving in around the corner. I'd checked this house out on Zillow and it's another Victorian like ours that had managed to hold onto most of its original interior detail, with especially cool inlay parquet floors in foyer, living room, and dining room (we only have the cool parquet poo poo in our foyer). New owner is a total bro and had a bunch of his bros helping him move in. We introduced ourselves and chatted a bit and the dude was psyched as gently caress to be living a totally dope Victorian. There is still hope.

I had a coworker who lived in a house that had previously been converted into a coffee shop, and the kitchen was still all commercial appliances (no freezer though for some reason). It also had exit signs and an industrial paper towel dispenser in the bathroom.

What is the proper way to determine what my style is and how to decorate a new apartment? This will be the first time I've lived by myself and also simultaneously had disposable income. Is it just find pictures of things I like, pick color palettes that I like, and then find pieces that evoke / match / whatever those things that I like? The current list of furniture I own is:

I recommend going on various decor blogs and even reddit pages (as a mixed example of what is good and what is terrible) with apartment decor content. Pinterest is really good too, if you type in "apartment decor" it will pop up some defining adjectives as suggestions, you can see how the various styles come across aesthetically and get a good sense of the keywords that get you what you like. I must admit I'm kind of a sucker for a good matching wallpaper and fabric, although I don't love that one. edit: I think it's because there's wallpaper on the ceiling, too.
