psst you wanna do a communism?
Since I haven't seen a thread dedicated it thought I would make one for a bunch of interconnected leftist US/UK podcasts

Trashfuture
The main flagship of the podcast empire, Trashfuture looks at the various developments and start ups that lead us more and more into a dystopian capitalist hellworld. Hosted by Riley https://twitter.com/raaleh, with co-hosts Milo https://twitter.com/milo_edwards, Hussein https://twitter.com/hkesvani, and Alice https://twitter.com/AliceAvizandum the FREE ONE is on Mondays, while the BONUS episode is up usually on Thursdays. Patreon rewards also include Britanology where Milo teaches Nick Bethea the very British things of British culture and Balthasar Speedboat which is a free form riffing show. https://www.patreon.com/trashfuture/posts

Another aspect is every Thursday and Sunday at 4 PM Eastern Standard Time on twitch is Alice, Devon https://twitter.com/Devon_OnEarth, Riley & Milo, with the occasional appearance of actress Abigail Thorn https://twitter.com/PhilosophyTube watching cursed youtube videos submitted by "the hogs" to Alice via twitter DMs.

Well There's Your Problem
It's a podcast about Engineering Disasters, with slides. Every week Justin [he/him]https://twitter.com/wtyppod, Alice [she/her], and LIAM [he/him] https://twitter.com/oldmanders0n talk about a specific tragedy every week (usually Wednesday at 8 AM) and why often human suffering is the result of rich assholes cutting corners. There is also a monthly patreon episode on topics like GROVERHAUS, Beer, The Process, and the worst disaster of all Protestantism. https://www.patreon.com/wtyppod/posts

What a Hell of a Way To Die
What a Hell of a way to Die is a Weekly podcasts and essays on war, peace and politics from leftist US Army veterans. Hosted by Nate Bethae https://twitter.com/inthesedeserts and Francis https://twitter.com/ArmyStrang
Patreon includes bonus episodes, interviews, and more: https://www.patreon.com/Hellofawaytodie/posts

Lions Led By Donkeys
The Lions Led By Donkeys podcast is a military history podcast for laughing at the worst military failures, inept commanders, and crazy stories from throughout the history of human conflict. Hosted by Joe Kassabian https://twitter.com/jkass99 with co-hosts being Nik, https://twitter.com/nickcasm1 Francis, Shocks https://twitter.com/shocks, and LIAM

Patreon includes bonus episodes as well as early access to multi-part episodes https://www.patreon.com/lionsledbydonkeys/posts

Kill James Bond
A podcast that looks at the James Bond franchise movie by movie through the lense of 3 British trans socialists. Hosted by Alice with co-hosts Devon and Abigail Thorn.
Patreon includes a bonus episode on a Bond related thing in between weeks of movie reviews https://www.patreon.com/killjamesbond

I missed a bunch of other podcasts but these are the ones I regularly listen to

Okay so specifically: WTYP doesn't work because you've got donoteat going patiently through some disaster while Alice and the other guy shout jokes at him, and it's like watching someone try to build a wall while being pelted with baseballs. It would be a much better podcast if it was just him talking, especially because the other guy whose name I refuse to remember is just painfully unfunny.
WAHOAWTD is fine I guess, I just don't care about anything they're discussing.
Lions suffers from a similar problem in that none of the hosts are actually funny. They have no comedy skills at all but insist on trying to riff which makes every episode like pulling teeth. Joe in particular is just a black hole into which all attempt at humour vanish. The guy has anti-charisma.
I haven't listened to kill james bond, there's only so much Alice I need and my only exposure to abigail has been a. her extremely tedious trashfuture appearances and b. trying to watch one of her philosophy tube videos, I made it 10 minutes before I was thrashing around like a dog in a bath from sheer frustration at how unbearable it was. Also "trans feminists doing a socialist analysis of the james bond franchise, check out their patreon" sounds like something you'd made up as a cruel joke about the podcast slop machine

Exactly! I like donoteat a lot, and I like to hear him talk about things, and I do not think he requires a couple of clowns to caper around while he speaks, and I feel physical pain every time they launch into another tedious abortive riff and you can hear him waiting patiently for them to stop so he can get back to it

Anyway my biggest problem with all of these non-trashfuture podcasts is that they do not feature my beautiful rowdy boy Milo

Up until a decade ago there was this anxiety with British people about their favourite shows being picked up by Americans and then ruined in a US centric remake.

The opposite has happened with Trashfuture, in that its a poo poo British remake of Chapo. Even the spinoffs are far worse than the Chapo spinoffs.

There's also 10k posts, which is Hussein and Pheobe talking about internet stuff, but like with Masters of our Domain it's usually funniest when they're just doing the intro riffing or pointing and laughing about funny twitter stuff. A lot of the time when they get stuck into the main focus of the episode it kind of drifts and I realise my attention has wandered.

Depends if you want funny or interesting I guess. TF usually maintains a decent balance between the two. I still think KJB is probably my favourite extended universe podcast, but anything with Milo on usually slaps.

I might subscribe to the MoD patreon just for the 9/11 script reading and the Prince of Thieves episode.

quote:

New technology podcast, Human Error, launches on BBC Sounds

Presented by comedian Olga Koch and journalist Hussein Kesvani, Human Error podcast will get listeners up to speed with the state of technology today while drawing upon the knowledge of relevant experts.

Published: 2:00 pm, 21 July 2021
Updated: 1:59 pm, 21 July 2021

Hussein and Olga will explore the biggest, most interesting and surprising tech stories as well as examining the unforeseen effects technological breakthroughs have had on communities across the world.

Human Error will take a deep dive into the tech world, covering topics such as; the world of bio-hacking, hate speech within gaming culture, the job of online moderators, the future and ethics of facial recognition software, the ways in which technology improves our health, wars taking place online rather than with violence, online anonymity and technology and the environment.

Olga says: “Oftentimes tech entrepreneurs spend a lot of time wondering whether or not they could, without stopping to think if they should. In Human Error, Hussein Kesvani, the Jeff Goldblum of the podcasting world, and I, the Jeff Goldblum of the stand-up circuit, finally stop to ask if they should. I sincerely hope listeners will enjoy our podcast as it answers hard-hitting questions like, what happens if you wi-fi enable your dog?”

Hussein says: “Human Error is a show about the weird, hilarious and unexpected effects of the technology we use, abuse and abandon in our everyday lives, and what it tells us about how we live as a society. If you find yourself up at night asking, ‘What happened to Microsoft Clippy?’ and ‘Will my Bluetooth Hoover turn on me in my sleep?’ It’s a must-listen.”

Human Error is a Daddy’s SuperYacht Production for BBC Sounds.

Human Error trailer is available to listen to here.

Episode 1 of Human Error will be available on BBC Sounds from Wednesday 28 July.

I initially watched a few episodes of Well There's Your Problem and kind of hated it. I came back to it after a bit and instead of trying to watch/listen I threw it on while doing other stuff, and it's a lot better that way. The slides stay up long enough* that you don't have to be looking at it for every bit, and can walk away when the others go off on a tangent.

*The Vajont Dam episode is maybe a notable exception.

Also some episodes are much better than others -- the ones with a knowledgeable guest to help Rocz out tend to be higher quality.

Started listening to a few of the related podcasts recently.

Masters of Our Domain: It's okay, I think? I've never watched Seinfeld so maybe it would be better if I had. Milo is pretty good, not a big fan of Phoebe. Especially in the 2nd or 3rd episode it seemed like half the jokes she made were making fun of "woke" language, which I guess would be on brand for Jerry Seinfeld.

The Bottlemen: Not exactly funny but pretty interesting. I listened to the first episode and was intrigued. Then I skipped the 2nd (bonus) episode, and the 3rd episode was about a bunch of CIA/CSIS conspiracy poo poo with a guest I couldn't stand, so I skipped it after about 5 minutes. Probably not worth listening to if you don't like Riley.

10K Posts: Mildly interesting. Not particularly funny. Phoebe seems a bit better than on MoOD, too bad about her awful audio quality. Hussein is cool
