Yeah I laughed at how much faster progression was once I bought premium when it went on sale for $8

Wasn't the fast pass stuff introduced fairly late in the game's lifecycle?

It could be the EXP was still tuned towards eventually selling them.

I don't have a ton of hours played, but yea, unlocks feel painfully slow. Although I did just crack a shitload of battleboxes that I apparently had, and they were all filled with bonus EXP so that's helpful.

e; Wait what about Premium? I also just picked it up for $8. I was confused by the name and thought it was a subscription service but it seemed to just be all the DLC in one cheap box?

e2; I can't seem to connect to any servers this morning? "Joining server" just pops up forever.

Premium was effectively a season pass. you got extra features and all the DLC as it was released.

One thing I hate in modern shooters is the whole "shooting an unsilenced weapon makes you show up on the mini map" bit. It was nice not to have it in BF1 but with the return to modern times I bet it will be back to bug me again.

I think MW 2019 has done away with that mechanic. Either way they made silencers basically a no brainer because they give you a damage range extension and silence the weapon at basically no cost. If you play vanilla MW its not a big deal since most of the maps you arent shooting that far anyway.

the guns in MW 2019 sound too good to silence and mag dumping is sick as gently caress.

Silencers function differently in core and Warzone. In Warzone they function the old way where they keep you off the minimap when you shoot. In core you don't appear on the minimap when you shoot unsilenced but it does break your ghost perk and you appear on the pseudo-minimap that is the compass.

They practically required in Warzone but less so in core.

Ehh considering the state of the game industry these days I'm very much in the camp of "don't attribute to incompetence what you can attribute to malice".

Worse and worse monetization is creeping its way into games and I fear it'll get worse before it gets better, for example. Or unfinished game because of way too tight release dates, and crunch... the list goes on.

I generally don't buy into the argument of what I said when people present it towards other games but the exp gain / unlocks are SO loving SLOW in this game it's wild.

It very well could've been "there will be a ton of backlash if we sell them right out of the gate; lets offer them later for the people who only have a few hours per week to play". I just don't know how much later they were sold to really back that up :v:

I don't have an exact date but I feel like it was pretty drat early, possibly first or second expansion.

I'm not sure if they weren't available out of the gate, actually.

Source was pretty half-baked and never really took off, so professional play mostly continued in 1.6 until the eventual release of cs:go dragged the pro scene kicking and screaming into the present day. CSGO also finally introduced built in matchmaking so it was really a no-brainer for everyone else to make the switch too

In case you guys haven't noticed, the BF4 vehicle upgrade shortcut bundle is free on steam right now until June 28th. Will make vehicles significantly more powerful for you to use.

One thing I've noticed that I think is odd is how few people use thermal optics for their weapons or in vehicles.

Kibayasu
Mar 28, 2010

I’ll use thermals on a map like Zavod or something similarly close quarters (for a tank) or a map that’s really busy like the warehouses in Firestorm. On something like Golmud or Lacang or Caspian I’ll use zoom optics and the HMG so I can be an annoying poo poo and snipe people with a tank.

Thermals for infantry have increased aim down sights time, which is probably why a lot of players skip them.

for tanks and such it's a no brainer though. Zoom is okay but Thermals is honestly way better for one reason (the biggest reason): Engineers. It helps so much with hit and run engineers, which is all of the engineers. It helps target acquisition so much.

At least in 4 you start with an unlock in every slot by default. I still remember in 3 planes not having flares for the first 1100 or so points until they finally patched it so everyone has them by default.

In BF3 I flipped between zoom and thermals depending on the match, Eng support with a thermals T-90 and the light machine gun just owned bones for helping your team push the tunnels flags on Dav. peak.

It was nice being in a tank and not having to worry about sky gods.

Also, if the REDACTED mode happens to be like a battlefield across time thing, I would pretty much only ever use WW1 stuff. Landship supremacy in 2042.

Same, underslung smoke launcher was what I put on when we needed to win. I would just constantly spam it and either use thermals or spam Q like a mofo and shoot doritos. Smoke facilitated waaaaaay too many breakouts on 24/7 metro servers.

Did anyone do the work and go back and cross check everything "Tom Henderson" spewed out?
I don't doubt he has some source of info, but I think he plays up what he has and puts out speculation as fact and relies on his hits obscuring his misses.
I distinctly remember him stating the game will just be called Battlefield, that it is set 10 years from now and a whole bunch of stuff.
He got the dates wrong every time, each time claiming that "no really this time the date I know is real".
All of his leaks about the reveal trailer were wrong, what he had seen bits of were from an old internal pre viz video
