Man I just cannot make knight click for me. I think I've been poisoned by vanguard and footman classes who get much faster movement, longer weapons, and generally hit a bit harder. Maybe I just need to get a few more weapons available.

I'm OKAY at Vanguard and terrible with arching. There are sub-classes I don't care about. The last subclass for knight is whatever compared to Officer and Guardian. For footman the first two sub classes are pretty sweet, and I haven't gotten the third unlocked.

Similar reach and base damage, but trades in some speed for the damage bonus against Footmen/Knights. You'll want to rely mostly on the stab, and break out the swings when you're outnumbered.

shovel is top tier, not even joking. It's so fast, the charged overhead accelerated by looking down comes out drat near instantly.

A lot of the Chiv2 weapons are strong for kind of cheesy reasons ...the shovel is just legitimately strong

People have been getting better though. If you’re fighting a shovel user just keep your range… I was having trouble with one particular glaive user. The spam was unreal. I thought he was slashing through his teammates too, which may very well have been the case.

Yeah the general skill level of the playerbase has definitely been increasing Morph-matching is a thing in this game so start practicing your counter feints everyone!!

I felt pretty badass the other day when I beat up a knight, he got out of range and backpedalled behind his team to heal, and instead of giving up I just pushed forward and killed like three other people to get to him and finish him off no escape

I have no idea if the EGS exclusive hurt the playerbase enough that there is already a contraction in people or not. At least half a server is getting decent at dragging now though.

Ngl, I'm dying more but I'm also having more fun not being surrounded by teammates messers swinging side to side holding the line. Also combat is more fun when you're not just parry swiping groups as you back up, it's actually easier to counter sometimes when people turn real hard into their swings and whiff.

Players are definitely getting faster, and the Messer stab is now a standard spam choice. 2 hand weapons seem more popular now overall. Most players with shields seem to get rolled over pretty hard, except for a minority who are an incredible pain in the rear end.

People have figured out that 2h stabs are no slower than smaller weapons and in many cases faster than almost everything else. Hopefully they weren't just blowing smoke about having a bunch of weapon balance knobs they can tweak on the dev end cause we might not have backwards, upsidedown nightmare helicopter Vanguards but the balance is kinda falling apart.

I hope they add in an option to change the controls per weapon. The javelins and one-handed weapons are really fun to use but I wish the left click was the thrust instead of the sweep.

This probably won't happen in this game, but if there's a program that remaps KB/m input with a hotkey toggle to swap profiles you could probably program a good substitute

I'm quite convinced at this point that the Short Sword is not only the best auxiliary weapon it's one of the best weapons in the game flat. People just aren't prepared for how fast it is, and it does very real damage on its thrusts.

I think it's Alt-F10 by default. Also make sure the instant replay feature is actually running. I sometimes forget and then wonder why the gently caress the shortcut isn't doing anything. The regular "sword" sword is really freaking nice imho. It has a really good balance of speed and damage I think. it seems fast enough to be faster than most weapons on the battlefield and does enough damage to kill things if you can defend yourself a bit

Are there any recommended videos/streamers that teach people how not to suck with real-life examples and gameplay clips? I remember learning a lot more from watching videos than from actually bumbling around aimlessly on the battlefield when I played Mordhau.

They're very helpful in explaining what they are doing and what they are thinking, and will happily answer your questions in chat. I've learned a bunch from both of them, like every swing has forward momentum and pushes you forward a little bit. Honestly there are very few secrets about getting good at this time. You have to play to get used to everything, the better people get the more of the techniques shown in the tutorial you actually have to use. Remember that the people who are destroying everyone have thousands of hours into medieval melee games.

I mean the biggest starting tip is to use overheads and stabs more. Side swings are good when you’re in a huge melee, but if you’re 5v1 there’s no reason you should be doing a side swing. Yes you’ll have to aim, but that’s a big part of the game. The reality is this is just simple geometry. Use math to win!

But yeah, pokes are usually the way to go if you're not gonna get hit by their swing anyways
