Helping goons with math
This is a thread where people can share anime songs they like, discuss artists who make music for anime, link covers of anime songs, etc. I'll keep this OP mostly reserved for general resources.
And remember, an anime doesn't have to be good to have good music.

Past/Related threads:

The Doujin Music Thread is still open.

To kick this thread off, I want to talk about Lia. She is a singer who has been doing work for 20 years, and her voice was sampled to make the vocaloid "IA". In the world of anime, she's most famous for her work on projects by the visual novel studio Key, and I think her songs fit the bittersweet mood Key projects tend to have.

鳥の詩 / Tori no Uta / "Bird's Poem" was the opening to the 2000 Key game and 2005 anime "Air":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtJnix-9niI

"Tori no Uta [the speed freak's noise rave remix]" by DJ Sharpnel is a song sampling Tori no Uta which got popular in its own right:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anAH4CjJu8I

"My Soul, Your Beats!" was the opening to the 2010 Key anime "Angel Beats!"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIFV8UUs1-c

"days" is the ending to 2014 anime Mekakucity Actors (which started as a series of vocaloid songs using IA):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sPDPr3S7Zg

"Bravely You" was the opening to 2015 Key anime "Charlotte"

First anime game soundtrack I ever bought. The game was kind of a letdown, but I never get tired of 90s/early 2000s vocal openings.

And probably my favorite opening of any show; it really gets you in that D&D fantasy mood for kicking rear end and throwing fireballs, and that jump into the chorus just makes me go, "gently caress yeah!" every time:

My favorite anime OST goes to Welcome to the NHK Pearl Kyoudai really knocked it out of the park, making something that really captures both the feeling of melancholy that comes with depression and isolation, as well as nostalgia for time long past. Not to mention it's bolstered by the great OP "Puzzle" by Round Table ft. Nino, and Makino Yui.

Some of the standout songs for me are:

"Puzzle"
"Gosui ni Tarasu Tsuri Ito"
"Kagerou Ressha"
"Hiyori no Tame no Lullaby"
"Tensei wa Namida to Tsubasa wo Otosu"
"Atashi Datte Onaji Koto Omotteru yo"
"Modokashii Sekai no Ue de"
"Kyou wa Yuuhi Yarou"
"Natsu no Nichi ni Youkoso"
"Ashita wa Tabun Daijoubu"
"Odoru Akachan Ningen"
"Youkoso! Hitori Bocchi"

They're close, but I think I like the opening to the original Slayers, "Get Along", a little more:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7e3hjvcXWM

Both are sung (at least in part) by Megumi Hayashibara (林原 めぐみ), who was one of the most famous anime voice actresses especially around the 90s: She was Lina from Slayers, Rei from Evangelion, female Ranma, Faye from Cowboy Bebop, Lucy from Macross Plus, etc. She still voices characters today (e.g. Shuichi Saihara from Danganronpa V3)

For anime songs, she also sang the upbeat opening to Love Hina:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXoUJ65veq4

More recently, she sang the jazzy second opening for Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu:

I'm occasionally playing AMQ, which will feed off of the watch lists of your choice: https://animemusicquiz.com/
You get a short section of a random show's intro or outro song, and you have to guess which show it is off that. It's nice to remind you of their music, and they have a terrifyingly wide selection available, even reaching back into the 60s on occasion.

Some evergreens:

Bokurano OP - Uninstall
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oX8Ih9r4oI

Also my swedish friends tell me that the outro for the first season of Konosuba is just straight up a swedish folk song.

I never bounced off an anime harder than I did with that show. I tried four times to watch it and I just couldn't give a poo poo.

That song rocks though.

A good site for finding out that you don't remember EDs.

(Also it doesn't pause the countdown if the music has to buffer midway, which is a little unfair)

I would say this was one of my all time favorite anime OSTs, and it's for a pretty popular series, but you still don't hear much about it at all:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DkcSYfbUZ8

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM3tIbworcQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGt1cBtQU2U

This song in particular is really notable for how they used it as the "cliffhanger music" that they started playing a few seconds before the episode would end. Got me hyped for every upcoming episode.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97mrJKsghkE

I like a lot of anime music but just want to rep a forgotten classic.

I can’t think of Berserk without thinking of Susumu Hirasawa’s Forces.

The opening of the original Hellsing is incredibly cool. While the OVAs were a more faithful adaption, they dropped the ball on the music.

The music in Fate UBW is one of the stronger aspects of the series.

the entire Hellsing TV soundtrack rules all the way through. i have both discs in storage somewhere, long since ripped to flac. the OVAs should have used more of the TV soundtrack imho

in a total change of pace, Megumi Nakajima (Ranka Lee’s VA from Macross Frontier) put out a surprisingly good cover album for her 10th anniversary, and her rendition of Miki Imai’s “Rain-Kissed Bouquet” (op2 from Yarawa!) rocks.
i can’t find it on youtube but it’s on spotify.

the versions of Kimono Beat (insert song from “King of the Hill”) and Miki Matsubara’s Stay With Me (the song youtube autoplays after “Plastic Love”) also slap
