Now the Drums beat up again,
For all true Soldier Gentlemen.
Good evening soldiers, It has been a while. During the siege of Rime the teletype was knocked out when a stack of 120 shells fell onto it and in the chaos and retreat we had make do and improvise not only with rebuilding but also with some of our teaching aids.

So from this point on due to budget and supply restrictions we will be using my 28mm to scale models for our educational purposes. Now we've talked a lot about the vehicles we use to fight the war but we've not spoke of the greatest killing machine at our disposel. Ourselves.

Behold a modeled example of the typical Warden soldier on the field, give or take stains on the uniform and the smells of suffering. As you can see and are aware the typical Warden soldier on the field at the moment no matter what rank or job is currently wearing the Warden Univeral pattern uniform and equipment set.

The UPU has been designed both for efficient operation on the battlefield as well as for ease of reuse, using iconic elements of our distant past thrown awkwardly together with a vague idea of what a present soldier needs to project themselves into no matter what the situation even if the situation rapidly ends with projectiles being returned to them at a rapid semi-accurate pace.

Let us start with our distinctive head gear and work out way downwards shall we?

The modular Mark VIII steel helmet, also nicknamed by the soldiers as 'The Tinny' 'Zinc Condom' 'Callahan's Chamberpot' 'Soup Bowl' and 'Not A loving Stahhelm' is the latest in shrapnel and debris reflecting technology. Issued currently to all rank and file as well as the officer corp the M-VIII comes not only with a one size fits all liner but a Universal Emblem system which one day we will actually get around to fitting regimental and service iconography when we can both research it and actually learn to draw. It also a cocks comb on the crown which if national legend is believed gives all soldiers the finest sense of physical balance on the field.

Moving on the model on the right is also wearing the well known, hated and beloved Universal All Sizes Fit rubber gas mask, AKA the face of the soldier everyone knows as we sleep in it as well as somehow eat also while wearing it. Attached to the mask which prevents Green Ash from transfoming our lungs into tomato soup is the simple Filter filled with cloth and charcoal which we inevitibly every way seem to forget how to make despite always having these masks in stock. Love it or hate it chances are high like with the helmet you will die wearing it and somebody else will in an hour will be wearing the same mask and in a strange twisted beauty keeping your own personal legacy of suffering alive.

Next we look at the left hand model in motion, wearing the body sized woolen Year XVIII Service Coat in horizan blue. While terriyfingly itchy and awkward to move around in, constricting in fire fights and hot as hell deep behind Colonial lines it has one advantage. It keeps us slightly warm in mild weather. And it also looks good. It also durable and very hard to damage. It is a well known fact that for almost a decade we've not produced any new coats as we have made a dizzying amount but thanks to the long suffering civil populace and the scavenge economy we do not need too.

Many coats like other items of the UPU have been repurposed from the dead. Once you get past the chilling notion you are wearing and using a 2nd hand set of dead persons items there is an element of romance to it. They bled and died for the nation and you should be thankful they were the same size as you.

Said coat is fastened shut by several pairs of retro metal pressed button discs fasteners made from enamel which incidently at a certain distance has been proved to deflect away the energy of a spent pistol bullet at the longest of ranges. Meaning these infact make the coat like our armoured cars in some ways. Another feature to note on said coat is on the top of both sleeves are the soldier ID and regimental markers which are currently drab for protection and to prevent enemy identification.

A minor aside you can note both models are wielding the beloved Storm Rifle and muched loathed Liar SMG. Returning back to the uniforms next are the leather shoulder straps which are part of the Plunket Equippage system, these straps painful and constricting help the Warden soldier hump their ammunition and war plunder through all kinds of hostile terrain taking the weight of the sixteen magazines of that one gun you don't even own and a spare shirt so you can stumble and crawl accidentally under the treats of the nearest Silverhand with ease.

We will cover the rest of the Plunket system in depth more later, let us keep going to save time before the shelling starts. Now we speak of the old trousers AKA the Year XVIII service breeches. Old fashioned in the sense the disbelieve in pockets and come with foot braces to attach to the boots these things will still trap in heat as well as mud, sweat, bood and many other unpleasant things. Unlike the coat and boots these are hell to get off but fortunately for us (and our enemy) they are one of the easiest items we can keep making, granted every war the cloth and stitching gets cheaper somehow. Now you cannot mention these old trousers without mentioning then UPU boots, the old Slapper. Calve length and protected by a mud shield Gaither which has a nasty tendency to get loose and clap against your feet after getting wet these boots have seen over a century of service. And lets be honest in many ways as like with other items we take not only from our own dead, but yes we steal and wear from dead Colonials too.

Now we are going to switch from frontal view to a rear view. Get your bottom jokes out the system now.

Now I forget to mention while speaking about the coat mounted on the shoulders are the Universal Rank strap, which is pending both rank shoulder boards to be produced and worn for it. Sadly the Colonials don't have anything we can repurpose in that reguard so just pretend there is something there and be polite about it. It should also note our famous coats has the famous always starched standing collar limiting head movement and comfort for ultimate accuracy and discipline. Yes for some of you it causes major soreness and bleeding but isn't suffering through adversity the Warden way?

Now the main reason we're looking behind is we can focus on the Plunket Equipment rig. Made of what we all hope is still shaved and tanned calf skin the Plunket system consists of back and hip pouches and the 'Bagger' pack which are used for carrying ammuniton, food and battlefield loot on the frontline. The Plunket Bagger is surprisingly flexible and roomy allowing even multiple mortar shells and machine gun semi-compacted inside to be transported. I have even witnessed men somehow carrying fellow Warden wounded upside down in them from time to time.

Remember now to always keep your food and ammo for easy access on the hips and for extra safety store all portable explosives in the rear. Remember these locations and get to know the insides of the Bagger intimately, treat it well like your weapon. I will not lie your survival depends on clawing through dead comrades It's a tough gig fighting this war.

Now you know what you are armed with and equipped with, next lesson we will focus on what our foe has equpped. For now salute Old Pointy and don't smoke alone out at night. I think a patrol let the enemy steal another ISG.

Now the Drums beat up again,
For all true Soldier Gentlemen.
Welcome back soldiers, during this campaign we here at Rime have been busy lately in slowly but surely rebuilding and repairing the damage still from the last war despite the trucks full of BMATS that keep driving down that hill into the sea and with the two factory buidlings clogged up with making comfortable under shirts we so despertely rely on during the war progress is slow.

We will be finishing the basic identification briefing we began the other night, this time focusing on our eternal foe the Colonial menace. Now we are mostly confident with our information with months if not years of interrogation and looting their dead bodies but we cannot promise that everything is entirely accurate. This however will not be much of a issue as you just need to know what they look like to briefly meet and murder them for Old Pointy.

Now let us get started, I have once again assembled the campaign planning 28mm models as our reference materiel mainly because it will take us forever to bring a fresh bunch of corpses from the front.

Both examples you can see are wearing what is apparently classified as the Type M-Battle Dress. Now as you noticed and what we told you last time it is quite obvious that this uniform is only partly their own, seeing as they reuse or plunder our own uniforms and boots from our own sacked factories or our own still warm heroic dead.

But the difference between them doing it and us doing it as we look like professional soldiers reusing what we can while they of course look like sloppy Goblin grave robbing gits. We can all take solace however that their soldiers especially the recruited conscripts are equally uncomfortable trying to break in the boots. Moving on swiftly from the plundered MBU items we will start to look at what is actually distinctly Colonial.

They also use the same gas mask and filters as they are of an uncomplicated to manufacture design and easy to plunder from us too.

Starting with their Type M-18 steel helmet. Known to the enemy as the 'Turtle Hat' 'The Old Topper' and 'The Drum' (Also 'The Knob' a less flattering nickname used by us and them) this distinctive profile helmet is pushing the very limits of shrapnel reflecting technology with choosing a more angled lower resting design, though infamous for coming with incredibly noisy plastic liners that can barely hold onto the outer shell at times of stress. Like our own helmet it has been in use for some time in this stage of the eternal war with many helmets like our own being recovered or recycled when needed. Reports of the flared out lower rim being more efficient in deflecting shrapnel and debris have yet to be verified. Do not attempt to verify them.

The next item of interest is the trench cape mantle attached to the shoulder of every Colonial soldier. It seems once again rather that using more traditional and tested methods the Colonial army as a whole has rejected the older style jacket coats for instead a folded up trench cape to be worn on cold nights or in campaigns in our colder climate. Previously it was rumoured these trench capes were treated to prevent not only cold and rain from effecting the soldiers wearing them but gas but we have stringently denied this theory with Green Ash.

We are not sure why they only wear the cape wrapped around a singular shoulder some theorise it might have something to do with military or Colonial tradition as a whole but we all have come to the conclusion they lack the will wear it properly.

Next up we will be focusing on the upper half of their uniform and equipment. The Type M-14 Battle Tunic is allegedly while not as thick as out UPU coat jackets it at least is certainly durable to an extent and rumors suggest even comfortable to a degree.

Made of some form of khaki tanned cotton to make them harder to spot in their own territories this tunic comes with a baffling amount of needless pockets and all ways of securing them and the tunic itself shut are with crude pig iron 'studs'. Now some would say while this is practical, it is certainly not at all soldiery and reminds many of us more of those that work in the factories back here in Rime and the other production cities. Without the helmet and obvious stolen trousers the common Colonial soldier would blend in with the local populace with ease.

One odd thing to note here is unlike our uniform, the Colonial forces do not believe in having any form of even cut down identification. Part of their pointless rebelious attitude? or simple laziness. You decide. It also has a looser collar which as well know leads to comfort, free thinking and all sounds of other questionable thoughts and looks just drat sloppy. Be thankful and appreciate our tight constricting neck prisons soldier is the Warden way!

A brief note here, both model examples are armed with the well known Argenti battle rifle and the sought after Pitch Gun SMG which is more useful for our vehicle crews as we currently lack such a weapon at least for the moment.

Now we will be covering the ammo pouches and pack system as a whole.

Now the Dunlop system is the Colonial attempt at making things easier for their soldiers marching on the field. Consisting mainly of cheap khaki cotton straps that loop around the hips and shoulders of the average Colonial soldier as they wear it the Dunlop system has one advantage over our own more traditional equipment system. Rather that relying on leather like us the Colonial forces instead use Cotton made pouches secured by a series of pull straps and buckles. But worry not, it is proved unlike our own system which leaks the odd round of ammunition when we prone onto our stomachs their pouches are prone tearing and eventual destruction when they get wet. In a way neither of us have an advantage and we're fine with this.

Part of the Dunlop system is also the envelope sack shaped Universal Battle Backpack which suspiciously like our own is also incredibly flexible and roomy allowing the transportation of bulky or large amounts of equipment in vague comfort. We assume this was originally part of our own design and like part of their uniforms they wear shamelessly stolen from us. Bastards. While yes the pack is shapeless now denying the painful digging sensations of our own packs frame mashing into our spines on the march we can still once again take solace our equipment is designed better and would tear or rot as fast spilling the precious war loot we need onto the ground on the front line.

And with that we come to the conclusion of the basic identification class. Next time if I feel like it we will be looking more closely at either our weaponry or some of our other tanks.

Seeing as how those ONE d-bags all uprooted and swapped to Colonial we don't even need to shake our first at the generic enemy here.

Seriusly though, 12 bucks for the moment is worth the money now. Yeah game has some development issues and all (an understatement) but at least you can hang out with chill goons as we raid/logi/tank/prop up a dying front/get shelled out the blue.

It is worth the money.

Last night me and four goons helped protect the flank of Protoss at Godcrofts by working with a random player who brought up a AA gun on a flatbed. Vital early war defence, we set the thing up under fire and we pushed them back off over the bridge. They blew it up but we kept them busy and stopped them from flanking down and overwhelming the pressed front.

So yeah another minor thing you can do early war is build and bring those AA guns up when they unlock, they help against the Field MG spam.

Yeah it sounds like there's been huge additions in functionality and game mechanics since then.

Also, the game is fun - a moderate level of complexity / learning curve (a la Eve) but still playable in one hour chunks if you have to.

That said, a lot of Warden vets seem to be on strike right now, due to various frustrations, which is also magnifying the current pro-Colonial tech bias. But you can still have fun here and there.

This is nothing but a meme. Wardens are currently on-par pop wise if queues are to be believed and you'll still see the common faces around like every war.

With that said pop is suffering again compared to the previous war highs, though that's also pretty normal. Before the big injection of regular 2-3k pop the game had a steady going rate of only 400-500.

New players have heart, if you don't mind it do try and teach them on VOIP. It helps a lot.

I think I've been asked twice now what my rank (Officer Cadet) means.

But yes, sadly the recent wars have put the game in a very crude position.

Siege Engine (formally Clap Foot) seem to really be embracing some sort of weird churn shake down long term Stamper Brothers silence on things because it sadly seems easier to wait for some players to leave than double down on trying to hire somebody to deal with the games Network woes.

But enough paranoid armchair developer stuff, we'll still poke the next two wars so you can play the game low scale with chill people and get to grips with it. And the price as is discounted is more than fair, fingers crossed in a month or two things might be on a more tolerable course.

As of this post Colonials are two Victory Towns away from victory this war and the new blood has helped a lot, but my morale drops heavily each time I see one of our own push weapons looted from Rome or Foxcatcher turned on us.
