I mean he's right tbf. Not a single crash yesterday was due to the course, it was all down to rider error.

They all knew the descent was there and they all decided to try going through it 6 wide. Thats a decision that the riders and DS in the car made. The GC teams could have backed out and left space for the sprint trains. Lotto Soudal and Quickstep were on the front from 30k to go but they had 4 GC teams next to them for that entire period.

Thomas crashed due to inattention.

Roglic crashed because he tried to push past a Sprint train and ran out of road.

Pogacar crashed because a rider didn't use his brakes.

Ewan crashed because he overlapped his front wheel having a row with Sagan.

Unless you're going to do something like take GC times from 30k out it won't change.
I dunno... you're right in that it mainly is rider/team leader error, guys being told in their earpiece they need to get to the front, etc, everything becomes far too nervous because of that.
Still, having smaller roads, descents and weird kinks in the road right at the end doesn't help. There would still be accidents if they're riding in a six-lane highway, sure, but I'm 100% certain they would be more rare.

My main problem is Lappartient's attitude tbh. His whole "we couldn't do anything, it's impossible, nay PREPOSTROUS even that we as an organisation carry any responsibility in this, it's the dumb riders who are bad and dangerous" schtick is p gross. No there is no instant perfect fix, but they can at least try instead of just ignoring riders and doing nothing.

I mean you might be right.

This guys gonna hold this unless MvDP just nukes it I guess. No-one else is interested and quickstep cant get to the front.
