The Go! Team put out a new album, and while it's not my favorite of theirs, it's nice to know they're still around doing their thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cegVgyk7Mvo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKKymFavwzQ

Anyone seen Modest Mouse (relatively) recently? I haven't really dug any of their latest stuff but I still love their early work. Still worth seeing live? Do they play the old jams at all?

Sufjan Stevens has officially announced a new album, A Beginner's Mind, a collaboration with Angelo De Augustine. I've never heard of Angelo, but apparently he's a folk artist on Sufjan's label, Asthmatic Kitty Records. The album is out September 24th, with preorders up now. The first two tracks are gorgeous, and seem more in line with the kind of stuff we got with Seven Swans and Carrie & Lowell, just not as depressing (although I haven't really listened to the lyrics yet, so maybe they're still about death). This will mark Sufjan's 4th release in just 18 months. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltH3rI-G4n8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9ymTg1V40A

Anthony Fantano (theneedledrop), whose reviews I often watch but don't take as gospel or anything, gave this new Spellling album the rare perfect 10 out of 10 score. I'd never heard Spellling before, so I'm listening to it now. It's...alright? I don't see how it's a perfect 10, but that's just my opinion.

Dude gave MBDTF a 6 and ignores Opeth. I like his reviews, but for what they are. Spelling bores me.

Feebus Reloaded posted:The new SPELLLING album, released this morning, may be an AOTY contender, IMO. Kate Bush is the most obvious comparison, but some of the tracks, like "Boys at School," remind me of some bizarre fusion of Red-era King Crimson and, like, Tori Amos. You heard it from me first, folks!

There's a lot of cool albums being released out of New Zealand this week, and so you can all look forward to me not shutting up about that for a the foreseeable future. First up is Adelaide Cara, a Dunedin/Ōtepoti-based musician who makes dreamy baroque pop. They're sort of floaty and ethereal, but with a bit more of an edge than a lot of other stuff from that genre. Recommended if you like French For Rabbits or Repulsive Woman.

Twin Shadow released a new album to almost no media or fanfare on Friday. Probably because his last two albums were forgettable as heck. Does anyone still care about him? His debut album is top tier of the 2010s either way. Small Black has released two albums in the last four years as well and they do not get any attention. It's interesting what fades rapidly. Remember Memory Tapes? Do you guys have any other examples of these artist you've liked but just kind of disappear? Someone mentioned The Go! Team right? I never got into them beyond hearing some random singles but I remember them being around. T Bowl fucked around with this message at 03:21 on Jul 13, 2021 |
