What’s really funny about the St Chamond is that the weird handling where it will like, accidentally tip over to one side because of the narrow track base is actually more or less historically accurate

I really like the St Chamond because it really hyped me up for having a StuG in V.

But then V came out. :negative: (and the StuG never really ended up being that good anyway)

I usually max out at one kill every ten minutes or so with it, but I love using the giant mortar truck in 4. You get the cool little screen when you're shooting, you have to be sneaky and cagey, sometimes people will team up with you and you get a tank escort, and you can collapse whole sectors of the map with giant missiles.

My biggest complaint with BFV is that they finally decided to go to some of the less well known battles of WWII at the same time they completely turbofucked the game. And now I just know that marketing people and game execs are going to insist that a WWII game not set in Normandy or Carentan can’t be successful, which is horseshit.

I think they wanted to do the year-by-year (roughly) schedule like they did with BF1 and do basically the blitz in year 1, Barbarossa/Japanese expansion in year 2, US entry (so pacific/torch/north africa/Italy) in year 3, and then D-Day through 1945 in year 4, but when you consider the scale of how many notable battles and how many different theaters there were, that's an insanely ambitious schedule even for EA.

But imagine stuff like Singapore or the Philippines or Stalingrad being massive operations-scale campaigns. Alas.

You vastly overestimate gamers history knowledge. When BF1942 came out people were mad there wasn't a Pearl Harbor map, but nobody batted an eye that the Japanese were using Stg44's.

Lol really, a pearl harbor map?

Japanese just have a bunch of planes, and the US is stuck with ships unable to move and no ammo?

It's not so much that DICE wasted everyone's time starting in 1940, but they just didn't do it properly, mostly due to how much stuff got dropped going from 1 to V. Norway would have been perfect for a Heliogaland-esque naval map instead of leaving us stuck with Narvik and Fjell of all things. France and North Africa were wasted since the French and Italians never showed up, even after BF1 did an excellent job making sure all the big name factions made an appearance regardless if it was for a couple maps total. France was especially wasted since it was an easy opportunity to revamp Fort Vaux as a Maginot Line map or port Op Metro into 1940s Paris instead of saving it for when they were just about to pull the plug on support, and the Rotterdam maps just felt soulless compared to BF1's urban maps like Amiens and Prise de Tahure.

There's a reason why everyone adores the Pacific maps we got since they felt like the first that got up to the quality of BF1's, but by then, obviously, it was already too late.

I'm dog poo poo at BF1 and still can't quite figure out what each class does (does no one have spawn beacons? How will I do my secret agent thing??), but man is it gorgeous. I was switching classes and playing airplane gunner in this enormous mountain valley, it seemed like I could see for miles, except when big fog banks rolled in, and you had to listen for bombers coming in. Going to have to figure out mortars.

Yes and no; there were a number of active servers this afternoon, not a ton and maybe not every mode, but you can still get on and play. Certainly not as bad as Titanfall 2, good lord guys get rid of this network bullshit and give us a server browser already

there aren't spawn beacons but you can spawn on any member of your squad.

also classes are as follows:

assault: anti-vehicle
medic: medic
support: MG guy plus ammo bags and also you repair vehicles
scout: wookie-rear end mother fucker

Get yourself a semi-auto shotgun and jump into as many close quarters fights as you can until you get a 4x and slugs. Now you can one-shot hipfire people at medium range and snipe with a deer slug!

Has news of BF 4s PC revival been exaggerated or does it have some legs?

Guillermus
Dec 28, 2009

You can find, at least in Europe, more than enough servers and plenty of new people. But this has been a trend since BF4 got released on steam and usually on sale for 9.99€ (premium edition is the only one on Steam). Then giving the game for free for Amazon Prime (Prime Gaming/Twitch) added even more.

Titanfall 2 got more players since the steam release and that is awesome too.

Not exaggerated, probably some legs? I would expect it'll stay playable on PC at least until 2042 hits, though probably not at the peaks it's been getting the past month.

It's absolutely got a bunch of players still.

However due to the divide by the ultra die hards and the new players team balance is a mess at the best of times.

Very few games I've played lately were actually even slightly even, usually it's one team getting crushed by a ridiculous degree and it doesn't feel like you can do much to affect it at all.

It's made me stop playing more than once already, tbh.

Bolt actions have a very cool mechanic in BF1 where they have an optimal range, where shooting anyone in the chest is a OHK.

Sab669
Sep 24, 2009

Yea there's no shortage of full servers, but also there's a lot of level 140 poopsockers and then a bunch of sub-20 newbs like myself 🙃

I don't think it's caused me to rage quit though, although I guess I did this morning but that was more due to the Uber pilot AND the server browser not showing the correct population so there were only like 15 people on each side. I would have stuck it out if it was a full 64 person match like the browser said.

My main issue with BF4 vs 1 is that 1 is super playable solo and without much unlocked, but 4 has a lot of the good stuff behind a time grind and can be utterly miserable if you don't have a squad with the means to fend off vehicles.
