A few years ago, a thunderstorm rolled through and lighting struck one of the trees in the front yard of my parents' house. They started smelling gas and smartly GTFO'd to let the gas company sort it out.

Yeah, the lightning arced off of the tree, into the ground, and nicked their gas line.

Drug Testing! I posted this in the Aussie thread but this is the censored version.

We've spent a week or so training up and getting a new operator signed off on a bunch of stuff WHPS/Drugs/licensing etc. Then it's time for the drug test and he shrugs and says 'won't pass that, cya'

Fucken rear end in a top hat got paid for a week of sitting around hamming it up knowing full well he will be drug tested as part of the process.

Oh well, another name for our closed list shared by a number of companies in the region that advises who the bludging flogs are before we even respond to resumes.

Humphreys is in Australia and yes, not wanting to hire someone for future employment on the basis of their previous employment performance is legal.

I left a job once that I took during the mining crash in the early 2010s to pay the bills without properly waiting out my notice period. They didn't write me a reference and they'll never hire me again, and if anyone asks them about me they'll actively recommend against hiring me. That seems reasonable to me? It's not like the guy was a whistleblower or something.

Union membership and whistleblowing are both protected classes under employment law, as are the various grounds for discrimination (pregnancy status, age, ethnicity etc) but actively wasting someone's time isn't.

I think in the US you generally don't give workers a bad referral because it opens you up to all sorts of litigation. If they sucked at their job you just say they worked there and that's that, so it may be a cultural thing.

Not every place lies inside the United States, amazingly. I also live in a place where people aren't (or can't be) litigious, and so fuckups don't list previous places of employ for references. If some fuckwit saw the entry requirements for a job, took the training, then decided he couldn't be hosed to pass a piss test I'd be grumpy about it too.

Regarding blackballing explicitly... Everyone knows everyone else in my industry, and word gets around about fuckwits even if there's no formal list. Actions have consequences, and being upset about it reminds me of the people who are crying that they're being denied service at this bar, when it was that other bar that they had their meltdown at. Ain't that a shame?

Actions have consequences, yes, but those consequences are getting fired or laid off, not losing the ability to make a living. Also everyone fucks up at some point in their lives, sometimes hard or sometimes repeatedly, but that doesn't mean they can't be good at their jobs in the future.

lmao, we see things in this thread all the time where someone doesn't use appropriate PPE because it saves a dollar or two. Or something goes wrong because it had to be done fastfastfast. How great that there is a way in some countries to ban those snowflakes who insist on safety. Or cost the company money in some other ways because they don't behave like droids without a sense of self preservation. Oh wait no I'm sure that never happens and the system works perfectly and gets used only in the cases where it makes 100% sense, my bad.

When our list is also intertwined with our group social chats and pub afternoons...the lines blur. That flog attempting to get a job knowing he is under the influence and breaks various laws and regulations. He loves the crystal pistol? That's him being fraudulent trying to sneak through and endanger the general public, staff, resources and environment. We work with LOTS of poo poo that's explosive and I've mentioned prior that if something goes down and there's a major whoopsie - my property is within the 'bye zone'.

Does no one there know how to pass a drug test?

Whiz quiz, blood or hair? If it's dipstick piss, about the only thing you can beat, usually with creatine monohydrate, vitamin B complex and 2-3 liters of water. If it's lab gc/ms, synthetic or substitution with clean urine. There used to be a shampoo that would help with hair tests, but blood, you're straight hosed and might as well admit it up front.

Do aussie drug tests involve cock-gazers? Because you can't legally be watched taking a piss test here in the states for a job (or legal punishment) unless it's government related. So military, probation, or something like getting a tractor-trailer license, where a DOT officer gets to stare at your cock to confirm stream consistency.
