The great thing about Battlefield is that even if I’m poo poo at 1 on 1 gunplay, I can still hold my own and help the team by being an amazing medic, or tossing down ammo or support equipment. I learned that fairly early on and not being top of the kill leaderboard never bothered me. I won’t shy away from pushing out with a group or maybe even trying to take some risks if the team ticket count isn’t dire or situation calls for it but for the most part I really do feel like I’m an important part of a conquest game, and that’s why conquest is typically my favourite game mode.

It’s the same reason I ended up loving PlanetSide 2 — if I was having a bad gun day I could always just do other things and still feel useful.

The very worst vermin in the whole playerbase were those who played engineer on metro, a map with no vehicles. They probably never used a torch on the other maps either

Repair tool kills are never not fun. I loved just finding a good hiding spot w/ an ammo crate nearby and just tooling around in the eod bot and flanking and torching dudes. Extra fun killing the occasional unaware vehicle.

If you get no joy from piloting an EOD bot behind a Metro sniper who's parked in the back of the tunnels picking off people on the stairs then I just don't think we'll ever see eye to eye :haw:

It's not on GeForce Now, not sure on others. EA is working in their own streaming service.

Why wouldn't you use the only class with good close quarter weapons (PDWs) in a close quarter map?

I just played a team dm map on the aircraft carrier where I thought just this and tried the MPX. Couldn't hit anything for some reason and went back to the AN-94. Plus reviving was important for TDM.

But yeah I'm gonna start trying out all the PDWs more since I've never played with them much. I always just stuck with the carbines.

ive been rocking the p90 a lot recently and it feels pretty drat good. 50 rd mags are great for any cqc weapon and if you slap a heavy barrel on it you can headshot dudes at some crazy ranges for a PDW

P90 isn't as good as it was in BF3 but it's still beastly. Silencer, laser and acog and you're good.

I like the P90, but I lost like every relatively close up firefight that didn't have the other party already distracted, which is a bit of a bummer.

Granted most people were using assault rifles, but meh.

As much as it seems besides the point, you just don’t use the burst. Burst modes barely have a use in actual guns much less video games. Does that turn the gun into just another slow firing AR? Yep.

It did have a point in Bad Company 2 where you were allowed to shoot the 2 rounds (almost) as fast as you could click but you’re as likely to just not shoot when you expected to in BF4.

Note: Don't listen to this guy because the AN-94 has literally twice the RoF in burst as it does in full auto (1200RPM versus 600).

Also in BF4 the burst fire does have a niche in that the first shot recoil multiplier on guns is applied on the final round of the burst, instead of the first one, which makes it noticeably easier to control at range. I personally don't bother most of the time because I hate cycling through the fire modes constantly but if you're firing short bursts at someone it's actually technically optimal to switch to burst mode first.

If you weren’t artificially limited by the game in how fast you were allowed to fire the burst the RPM would matter but you are so it doesn’t.

Confirmed then, you can still have both a Primary and an AT weapon after all, instead it'll take your med/ammo crate slot. Honestly still not feeling the whole Specialists system over actual classes since it means most people will probably just take whatever the current "best" gun is and a rocket launcher. Also: if it's just going the COD route and letting you fully customize your loadout, why even have Specialists at all instead of letting you completely make your character from scratch?

Perestroika

Still rather leery about everybody having access to rocket launchers all the time, the other gadgets better be very good to present a proper opportunity cost.

That said, having played BF4 again recently, I'd legitimately forgotten how vehicle-heavy maps were basically 70% Engineer anyway.

Kibayasu

quote:

WILL ALL PLAYERS HAVE RPG’S / SRAWS / SMAWS?

All Specialists now have the ability to fully customize their Loadout, which means you have to make a choice about your focus on the battlefield. For example, you could opt for a Carl Gustaf M5, which is a unguided rocket launcher effective against vehicles at mid range. Or would you instead like an anti-air approach via the FIM-33 AA Missile? Choosing a more explosive approach for your Equipment slot would mean you won't be able to carry a Medical Crate, or a Supply Crate, and thus leaves you without health or ammo replenishing options. So choose wisely.

Whenever we introduce a feature such as Loadouts, we also think about balancing the individual mechanical elements, such as missile ease of use, or range and effectiveness against vehicles or infantry. We then also introduce counters and scenarios, such as against rocket launchers, where you may have been better off picking something else. Battlefield is all about player choice and freedom to play however you want, and your decisions are vital to your squad and ultimately, team's success.

In other words: Yes, yes they will.

The AI soldiers being used to fill empty space in 128 player matches seems iffy, like why bother? I guess they can help make a match feel more full, but they’re probably going to be borderline worthless and have no actual value to helping the team. Kind of like most battlefield players then, I guess.

You wouldn't want to have a break in the nonstop sound of rockets/nades exploding even though you can't find anyone to shoot in the huge maps

if they have the advantage of calculating exactly how much they need to lead aircraft with unguided launchers to nail them reliably that would be cool

Excuse me, did you not read the post?

They call in vehicles (which implies they can use them) and revive other players.

The latter alone makes them twice as valuable as the average pubbie.

I'd still take bots that play the objective, revive other players and engage vehicles over the average long-range sniper.

Only one contributes to the team and it certainly isn't the sniper.

Yall missed the most important part. DICE confirmed you can attach c4 to the robot dog.

also:

"Use of the [vehicle] call-in system is dependent on map, mode and will have a specific budget assigned to each team."

Pubbies going to blow through that budget in the first 2 minutes of the round getting to their favorite sniper spots.

Yeah, the only way that'll work if there's an additional per-squad limit, or perhaps if the points refresh so that they're more of a spawn rate-limiter rather than a hard lifetime cap.

Maybe some kind off sniper budget, with a shot clock where you actively start losing points if you haven't done a helpful thing lately

AI players will probably put a stop to that weird feeling you get in this game after winning a match then starting a new one, spawning in and finding nobody on the other team because they all quit.

I'm curious how the server browser will display these bots. Will every server display 128/128, and then just kill bots as players load in? Or will it show 91/128 and then you load in and there's 46 dudes on one team and 45 dudes + a bot on another?

AKA the SSD effect which shouldn't be apparent anymore in TYOOL 2021 with even (current gen) consoles having them. I'm against bots, and by the sounds of that article they'll probably be in literally every match. Not cool.

They’ll probably not tell you how many bots are in the match until you’re in it, so the latter I would guess. And then change it a year after release when players bitch loud enough. That seems to be how DICE handles server browser issues.
