People won't give up medpacks because they're great for self heals when you're doing anti-infantry fighting. Unless the gadgets are insanely good I'll probably run a medpack with every setup that isn't specifically vehicle or anti-vehicle focused.

Destroying vehicles as infantry sounds a lot like someone elses problem imo

Mostly I'm wondering about smaller gadgets, like wizard balls, spawn beacons, or laser designators. I guess those are just going to be wholly replaced by the specialist abilities?

e: Looking at some of the gameplay again, it looks like C4 is gonna be a throwable, taking the grenade slot. So that'll be safe, at least.

I haven't played a Battlefield in a while but are vehicles still capped at 6 occupants? They should definitely double that for the 128 increase. Having APCs and transport craft with lots of people inside would rule.

The landing crafts introduced in the pacific update for bf5 do but I don’t recall the exact number at the moment. I think it’s like 11 people? 8 passengers, 2 gunners and a driver.
Wake Island isn’t really that good of a map in BF5 but the first 30 seconds of the round with up to 4 tanks, 8 landing crafts and I think 3 planes pushing A was the closest we got to a D-Day experience.

Personally I'm more worried about the rocket launchers than bots: people will basically play the BF5 assault by default, outside of novelty or unlocking. Unless dice finds a very compelling reason, there will be few medics or support players, and you will have even more explosive spam than before. And if vehicles are weak like in BF5, they will sit back sniping instead of pushing the objective.
An interesting thing WW3 eventually did was it split off gadget/launcher/explosive ammo into it's own category separate from bullet ammo, and required "equipment packs" to resupply it, instead of ammo packs.

Of course it still had plenty of rocket spam so I dunno.

Maybe something insane like an Asheron's Call system where the more players carry launchers the weaker they get? It would make no sense but it could be hilarious.

So BF2142 rules then? Because they were literally the Engineer's primary weapon. In return, the Engi got a mean SMG instead of a pistol for their sidearm.

If they made sidearms as good as they were in BF1, id be 100% ok with giving up my primary for a rocket launcher

I kinda wanna preorder this, but what the gently caress's up with the insane pricing? Like $30 more to get to okay the game a week early and some cosmetic items seems weak af. I know it gives me the ps4(lol) and ps5 version of the game as well, but it seems kinda ridiculous. I def wanna play it when it comes out. Getting in on the ground floor when everyone sucks, nobody knows the maps, and they haven't unlocked every single thing months ago is usually when I have the most fun playing Battlefield games. That's probably why I bounced off 1 so hard. I played it years after release and just got wrecked constantly by people who had played for 100s of hours.

Chivalry 2 also added bots for basically the same purpose, and it works surprisingly well. It's pretty fun to throw yourself into a mob of those and just go wild tearing them apart. The key point there is that they're visually distinctive, so you can tell ahead of time whether you're dealing with chaff or an actual player threat.

Also worth noting that the most fun that you can have in the Red Orchestra games is playing with mostly bots and a few actual players. They'll typically actually move between objectives and you get to mow them down while trying to make sure your bots get to the objectives. It's kind of like if MOBAs were fun.

1942 and 2142 did that "make the launcher the primary" thing yeah.

BF2 also gave the anti-tank class such terrible primary weapons that it was effectively the same thing (such that even the DAO was an improvement over the SMGs).

I think I rather enjoyed the Middle East SMG just because it had such a big honking magazine. But yeah, holy poo poo when you're actually trying to work hard to unlock the loving DAO/Stryker for better mid range performance.

Ooh, or they could bring back the BF1 thing where vehicle drivers were their own "class" with appropriately weak weapons. Except Cavalry. I love me some sword horsey rifle kill mans action.

Bring back cavalry in 2042. Make the horse a robot, or a rideable boston-dynamics robo-dog.

I legit liked all the BF1 vehicle class weapons. They had their niche. Especially the auto pistol

I mean Conquest has always been weird because it's basically a big fuckoff sandbox that showcases the worst of Battlefield while the more focused modes showcase the best of the game, but by virtue of conquest being the "original" mode it's always been considered the core experience, to a fault.

For every cool Battlefield moment kinda thing that I have happen in Conquest it's like four matches of getting farmed by a dude in a plane/artillery truck/tank/whatever or just getting suddenly sniped while trying to do something else. It's still fun most of the time but it can be pretty ugh.
