I think the idea of the split was one was supposed to be more of the male-targeted generally ecchi fanservicey stuff and the other was more female targeted romantic stuff, but the problem is that nobody was sure which was which.

It was weird, at any rate.

there was this weird vague idea of stuff being more or less yuri and the western fandom decided this deserved a separation with a distinct genre, called "shoujo ai", and nobody was aware enough of the japanese side to understand that shoujo ai is a term that reads extremely differently and more weirdly to jp fans and also is completely fake and virtually all of what it applies to on sites would be called yuri anywhere else if there wasn't a weird early western perception of yuri being porn and a weird late 2000s-2010s perception of some yuri not being yuri enough

hey look,
a post
there is a lot of weird stuff tied up to it too with like the jp side where there are certain expectations tied to yuri where authors who are very much writing stories about lesbians shy away from the term

the split on the western side was always bad and kinda played into weird purity poo poo or dismissing subtextual stuff as not "real lesbian romance" so you hit it with the other label.

Oh yeah, I remember Bloom Into You or a similar prolific series where the author said in an interview it wasn't yuri coming up at some point.

nettaigyo. though that was a more specific situation than some others since the author was more like "it's not wrong to read their relationship that way but i don't specifically consider it yuri"

If you have any suggestions feel free to lay 'em out, but I think the case is just that after going through the filter of of getting scanned, getting translated, then stuff that's actually any good there isn't a lot to talk about.

i'd been meaning to go and read that after someone posted the interview where the mangaka said the eggiest poo poo here but things tend to just end up on my pile and never leave there

i remember when i told my mommy im trans and she ended up buying a lot of books off of amazon and one of them had really bad poetry near the ending and a lot of it was butterfly/cocoon metaphors. i thought that was bad. but the egg thing also makes me imagine like gooey egg yolk and stuff on top of that.

Is WEP bad?

I've heard some "interesting" things about the plot.

Endorph

there's some good bits in the first few eps and the character dynamics stay strong throughout but it devotes way too much airtime to a weird meta scifi plot that goes nowhere and it goes from thoughtful exploration of social issues to shock value exploitation pretty quick. and the last ep is garbage

it feels like a hard sell if you weren't already on the train of watching it weekly, since we've now seen how it just makes new loose ends as it goes along without satisfyingly tying any up by the end

from the lens of it being a troubled production it is still something i mostly like and find interesting and that's about the only angle i can see recommending it from
