Claire De Lune is a piece for piano by Debussy but also a video game where the title is a bit of a play on words. It's kind of a first person puzzler/platformer with a bit of combat. Apparently it's from a former Bioshock 2 lead programmer.

Played this, as I am a sucker for anything in ballpark of immersive sims. Can't really recommend it for the price. It's kind of an uneasy combination of a physics platformer/puzzler/portal-like. The story is fine (up until the rather abrupt ending sequence), the VA is pretty good, but the puzzles aren't really hard and the physics platforming is janky. It had the feel of a project that started with a grand scope that was cut back to get something out the door.

Secret Agent HD is a remaster of a game from 1991 that's well worth checking out. It's a puzzle platformer with 64 fairly short levels split across four episodes. I remembered the first episode fondly from playing it as a kid, and everything else is just as good. Plan on spending about 5 hours on this one.

Black Skylands released in early access semi-recently and I think it has a lot of potential. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1143810/Black_Skylands/

I've played three different versions of this game including the demo and a test version and each one has had a completely different intoduction and plot, It's actually changed quite a lot. I would describe it loosely as a cross between grand-theft-auto (the original) combined with Mercenary kings but actually good. That's a bit underselling it though. Current reviews are mostly positive so that's a good sign. I'm not at liberty to say how much of the game is complete or if the entire plot and structure is there yet as I haven't got too far passed the introduction and there is a lot of stuff left to do.

Yes, both Mini Metro and Mini Motorways are great but outside of the aesthetic I'm not sure why people always refer to them as "chill" games because they're tests of how long you can keep ever increasing and nearly uncontrollable demands met before your whole system turns to poo poo and catastrophically fails.

I think it's the aesthetic part that makes people think 'chill'. Simple shapes, bright and clear colors. And the fact that a game doesn't take that long. But yeah strictly it's not that chill I guess

It is definitely mostly the aesthetic, yeah. But also the games are fairly low stakes. Each 'run' is short, 30 minutes or so, and there is no progression. They are just score attacks and if/when you lose? Oh well, start another.

Some big ones I've been waiting for this morning!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/894020/Deaths_Door/

Death's Door is an action platformer kind of thing with RPG elements from the creators of Titan Souls. Very clean, matte CG art style that I find interesting, and a high 3/4 view camera. If it's anything like Titan Souls it'll have some great and challenging action.

quote:

Reaping souls of the dead and punching a clock might get monotonous but it's honest work for a Crow. The job gets lively when your assigned soul is stolen and you must track down a desperate thief to a realm untouched by death - where creatures grow far past their expiry and overflow with greed and power.

Talon Sharp Combat: Utilize melee weapons, arrows and magic to overcome a fantastic array of beasts and demigods. Mistakes are punished and victory is rewarded. Gain an edge by customizing your character stats and mastering the abilities and upgrades you obtain.

A Beautifully Bleak World: Venture beyond the Doors and explore a land full of twisted inhabitants and countless secrets, bringing hope to the weird and wonderful characters you’ll meet along the way.

A Dark Mystery to Unravel: Track down and defeat colossal tyrants with stories and motivations of their own. Experience a somber yet darkly comedic tale, uncovering the truths behind the flow of souls, the role of the Crows and the origin of the Doors.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1079830/Cris_Tales/

Cris Tales is a JRPG with a unique art style and a time traveling mechanic. Not gonna lie the demo didn't enthrall me, but the art is interesting if very flat, and maybe in the full game the battles and time travel go in a cool direction.

quote:

Cris Tales is a gorgeous, indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective. Peer into the past, act in the present, and watch as your choices dynamically change the future -- all on one screen as you play! Join the newly awakened Time Mage Crisbell and her fantastical companions on their journey across a dark, fairytale world facing a grim future.

Crisbell must embark across Crystallis and the four Kingdoms in a bid to stop the powerful Time Empress and rewrite the future of the world and all those living in it. Along the way, she’ll meet and recruit powerful allies with their own unique stories and skills like Matias the Frog and Willhelm the Child Mage.

As she explores the world and meets her unique companions, Crisbell will have to make choices with far-reaching consequences for the people she meets – consequences that will impact the world you’ll experience in real-time throughout your journey. Each companion will be invaluable as you face these choices and the myriad enemies who stand in your way. Will you buffet them with attacks, or discover creative ways to use Crisbell’s time powers to alter the reality of each fight?

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1356580/Guild_of_Darksteel/

Guild of Darksteel is a side scrolling action RPG with some very nice pixel art and a unique battle system that seems like it combines JRPG with action, kind of.

quote:

Guild of Darksteel is a story-driven adventure game set in a rich, dark fantasy world. As the immortal Sellsword, you must unearth an evil plot brewing beneath the city of Ravenrock. Only you can discover the true horror lurking under the city’s surface.

Engrossing Combat: Utilize a refined combat system to defeat anyone who stands in the way of your mission. Unlock combos and level them up to your liking. Chain your attacks together and determine a personal attack strategy that will guarantee your victory.

A Living, Breathing World: Explore the fully-realized city of Ravenrock, and interact with its inhabitants. Each character carries a deep story, breathing life into the world of Guild of Darksteel. Friends or foes, their lives won’t leave you unmoved.

A Deep and Nuanced Story: Inspired by classics like Flashback and Vagrant Story, Guild of Darksteel tells a gripping story of power struggle and soul searching, as its characters come face to face with their mortality... or lack thereof.

because their entire design is very relaxing, in audio and visuals and the gameplay itself doesn't put you under much pressure, as you can redo almost the entire track/road setup while pausing it. It's much more strategic and the design helps to understand that. And yeah, if you fail so just start another game in another city.

Everything is customizable. Make your own story of pirate nudist cannibals, blind undergrounder mole people, charitable ranching cowboys, machine-obsessed transhumanists, or rustic peaceful tribes who link with curious tree creatures.
