I was going through my little calculator collection, taking out all of the batteries so that I can pack this crap into a box, so I took a picture of some of them to take stock of what would be in the box.

I started collecting them about 20 years ago when I went back to school for a bit and got my first graphing calculator. I thought it was so cool because I had a handheld, programmable device and it was super handy at work. Thereafter I would buy a calculator or old computer once in a while. No doubt, it's a lovely collection but it's something that I've enjoyed collecting and I still think pocket computers and graphing calculators are awesome.

What kind of crap do you guys collect?

I have bits of collections that I was into as a kid. I kept some baseball cards, coins, and autographs from sports men.

I wish I still had the drive to collect something, but we also bought a small house so we’d be less tempted to have more stuff.

I like your calculators, op.

It sounds like a joke but for me it's illnesses. Every few months some health problem comes up and it turns out that I either had an underlying problem get bad enough to notice or it's a new one wanting it's time to shine.

But also I have a fever for late 80s and early 90s audio rack units, especially ones that I considered not great or straight up bad. I love using them to gently caress with and artefact sounds and music, because I view it as giving them a chance to shine and offer what they can in ways that weren't expected.

Also Pokemon cards because apparently I don't like getting laid.

I've got a pocket full of cheese🧀, and a garden full of trees🌴.

My brother collects Jerseys/Jumpers/Shirts from obscure sports teams.

I have helped his collection by getting him the Jerseys of local sports teams from places I have visited/lived. Such as A rugby top from a local Chengdu team, the jersey of the soccer team from Gyeongnam, and the Nippon Ham Fighters baseball team jersey among others.

You need to check out the Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum in Gatlinburg, Tennessee!!!

We didn't go in, it was $3 entry.

For me, I collect musical instruments, but haven't bought anything new in like 10 years, desires the tongue drum I bought for my 7 year old boy, who's definitely going on a very musical path already.

Now I just collect incorrect parts for a 2000 VW Jetta ☹️

As a child I used to collect shoehorns. I think it's because I was an only child of a single mother and childcare is expensive. so she had to take me everywhere. The shoe stores were the worst. No other kids around, nothing to play with or read, and I guess at one point I picked up a shoehorn and started fiddling with it, so my mom asked if I could keep it and that became the thing. She shopped for shoes, I got a shoehorn to take home. All of them were basically the same, of course, but they were different colours, and that was enough. I started to look forward to the stupid things. These disposable shoehorns were my reward for sitting quietly and not complaining during the shopping trip. I don't think I realized how little money we had back in those days.

Now I collect miniature arcade machines
