I like how one of the skills the MC of I Woke Up as the Villain is based on his fame/popularity so the more he showboats the stronger he gets. Not entirely the same as a charisma-based skill because it works even if people don't like him but are still talking about him even if it's gossip or trash-talk but it gives him a reason to want to be the center of everyone's attention.

no, the hero was his biological sister. that's why he got his rare class with an early level boost but a low level cap, like a jegan.

I love the Faraway Paladin, but I always wonder why they bothered with the isekai part. Yes, his soul is from the modern world but he lived a lovely life and died young, it barely gets a mention in the story at all.

His lovely life is a huge motivator for him. He's terrified that he'll waste away in a little room again. It directly leads him to reject the god of stagnation and embrace the god of death.

it is very rare for the character designs in an anime adaptation to be more complex and detailed than the manga.

Doesn't he make a pact with the God/Goddess of Fire or is that part of the same ticket? But yeah, at first the isekai aspect felt tacked on, but starts to make more sense.

Apparently he was always a bit of NEET with some depression, but he REALLY caved in when his parents died and the panel of it has him clearly broken at their funeral(Apparently he was also rather absent which he REALLY regrets)and it just went downhill from there. It's why his bond with his new family is so strong.

Lol. That just makes it even MORE Dark Souls. I legit can't loving wait for this one. I also hope that the success of this leads to a possible Undead Adventurer anime down the line since both are from the same publisher and I think the same magazine.

I have read more than one manhwa where the author couldn't decide on whether to do an isekai or a do-over so they just went with both and made the main character a reincarnator who already lived one full life on fantasy world and is now on their second run of it. Also their being from earth typically never comes into play at all except maybe for a single invention.

to be more accurate: crossing between worlds is a natural part of the cycle of souls in this setting to prevent stagnation, and Gracefeel is the god/dess in charge of shepherding those souls as they make the journey. Will believes Gracefeel allowed him to keep his memories of his past life to encourage him not to make the same mistakes, even though you usually forget everything and start from 0. Dunno if this is ever confirmed though

I think Doctor Elise did this the best, villainess died in her world, died in Japan as a doctor, then reincarnated with both memories and brings her doctor experience with knowledge of past life.

I dunno if Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint was the first one to do it but it's the main one I think of for this (I can think of at least one other but it's probably just lifting from ORV) but I like the concept of the MC being a mob character and his main rival/foil/love interest is the one who has reincarnated multiple times and has all the crazy strong skills.

Well I ended up binging the hell out of this, so both thank you and curse you because I had planned on getting more sleep tonight.

I really enjoyed how it kind of dodged most of the common tropes I've come to expect from isekais. The MC has modern knowledge, but it isn't enough to instantly bootstrap the country into a new era. He's got some OP magic, but it's taking him years to learn it and in 38 chapters he still hasn't gotten to the point where the magic is relevant as more than a complication. Despite being an isekai protagonist he doesn't suddenly upstage everyone around him, or become some kind of hidden power behind the throne. Heck it takes forever for the harem tag to come into play, and when it does it's for fairly realistic political reasons and not because every woman instantly jump his bones.

Ideal Sponger’s Life has the worst title and the most misleading opening of any media in general that I’ve come to enjoy. I’ve read ahead of the manga, and what I love most is how the dude has such intensely reasonable knowledge, like he knows enough to point actual craftsmen in the right direction, but not enough so they can make marbles or anything without literal years of work.

It’s also one of the few isekais that are willing to take place slowly over a fairly long period of time. The main characters have a genuine romantic chemistry in the adult sense, the politics is shallow but very well grounded, and the insecurities the guy faces are again fairly genuine. That and how pretty much every conflict is resolved in an uplifting manner makes it an exceedingly pleasant read. It’s truly extremely wholesome and great. Highly recommended.

the worst thing about the sister is that she is essentially held captive by her hero class, which absolutely compels her to do hero stuff to the exclusion of all else. most emotions are negative status effects, so she is immune. sleep is one too, so immune again. and as she levels up, the restrictions get worse and she becomes increasingly less human. then she gets a chance to escape these restrictions and her responsibilities and takes it with the help of her faithful friend. said friend stuck by her even when the hero was completely unable to be a friend due to the restrictions. it's a good story!

except then her goal with this newfound freedom is to schtup her brother. ugghhhhhhhh

Ohhhhhhh, you guys were talking about the novel. No wonder I didn't remember any of that stuff. I just remembered someone scheming to get him kicked out of the group and obsessing over the sister and how she should be all mine and no one elses.

So she immediately kills him as soon as she finds out what he did. Aaaand then healed that wound because Heroes can't be doing that and classes are designations on how you have to live your life.

It's pretty tame compared to other series with that type of character. The sister doesn't behave terribly and the brother deals with her attachment to him as a mental illness caused by the circumstances around her "Hero" class and he tries to help her socialize more with others. This could all change in the future but I don't view it as horrible at this moment.

I'll reread it eventually this week. As far as I remember it only really goes as far as her thinking of him as her only friend. Which, for a girl with no emotions is pretty substantial. It's not at Demon Slayer levels of love for your family but it's still pretty sweet regardless. She seemed to really look up to him, managing to show such a range of emotions as :geno: and :unsmith: whenever he was around

As much as I like trashy power fantasy, and lets face it, if I didn't I wouldn't be here, this made me read it and it was a real breath of fresh air. Exactly, and I think the best part is that he has vague ideas on how electricity and other technologies work, just enough to not be able to share that knowledge, and really the only person he ends up disappointing with that is himself!

I'm bizarre
After this thread mentioned it, I ended up binging the whole series, and what got me was that this is more of a love/romance story then a power fantasy with a bit more realistic knowledge spread as others of this type, and it made me think why don't they go down this route more often, and then I saw that like over half of the comments are some variation of "Dropping this, the MC is so trash. The wife is giving him permission to sleep with everyone, why doesn't he. Such a pussy." and then I realize where the true market for these are and why they are all this way.

It is NSFW, but it's a more restrained NSFW than I'm used to seeing in isekai manga. I guess I would say it feels more natural and less fan servicey than pretty much anything else I can recall reading lately.

If you ever want to prepare yourself to get Isekai-ed, there’s a book called The Knowledge by Lewis Dartnell which details how to rebuild or bootstrap a post apocalyptic society, and most of the post-medieval tech advice would be applicable to a fantasy world.

But if the world doesn’t have easily accessible healing magic, probably the single biggest contribution you could make is convincing healers to wash their hands.
