When the Darby/Punk match was first teased I thought you have Punk lose to Darby and do the respectful ROH style post match, but after the last couple weeks Punk 100% has to win.

I think AEW does a brilliant job of this with things even as subtle as people's win loss records, noone goes on a massive streak without it just being part of an angle like when peter avalon was dueling for worst record. I think of the options people threw out there while we were spitballing I'm most excited to see Darby vs Malakai Black. Lance Archer could be fun too though I feel like they'd have to work more outside of the ring ideas into it to make it fresher than just "darby dies to big man, then wins maybe" like maybe more Jake the Snake vs Sting stuff though Jake honestly comes across as more of a face lately. Maybe Darby puts a dent in Lance Archer's truck and they have a Junkyard Streetfight.

WWE has just completely deluded people into thinking you cant lose and still be put over. Jungle Boy has lost a bunch of close matches but looks hood every time and is still over. Darby shouldnt win, but he will absolutely come out of that match looking like a star.

With the right crowd, the right wrestlers you can make dogshit booking work. On paper, Punk going over Darby kinda sucks. But Darby's got a deathwish and Punk's a wrestling wizard so it just takes the crowd buying into it. Chicago is absolutely the best place. Shoutout to TK's TEW save.

Darby's normal style of just getting the poo poo kicked out of him for most of a match does a good job of getting him over. But it's important to give it the time and the gravitas to make him seem tough instead of just put upon imo. Getting tossed down the stairs was kinda a whatever moment for me, the bad guys did a bad thing. But traditional hardcore matches/the coffin match etc there's a lot more opportunity to show Darby surpassing "normal" limits. Funnily enough when I think of a match like that I think of the MJF/Sammy match where MJF threw Sammy out of the ring a few months ago was a good example. It was a ton of fun to watch, I loved the tension and the build and the psychology of both of them nearly breaking and in the end the (wrong) (bad) man wins but ofc they both looked amazing in the process.

For the CBR participants, the AEW womens roster is exactly 21 right now. Obviously Britt and Stat wont be in it so that takes it down to 19. Anna Jay hasnt returned yet and I am not sure if Brandi would return so soon either so thats 4 slots open, assuming they use all contracted women. I noticed Diamant still isnt listed on the website but Im pretty sure shes on a deal so I assume shed be in too. That still leaves room for a few surprise entrants though. Id guess Ruby, Kiera Hogan and Lulu Pencil.
