the simpler solution is to not buy products you don't want.

I assume apple is going to put the mini phones on a 2 or 3 year cycle. they don’t need to make a new one every year. just like the iPad mini.

when my phone wears out if apple's discontinued the mini form factor i'll just buy used and replace the battery

hell i'd like a 12 mini but $600 buys a lot of nice dinners and car repairs so i'll prolly just replace the battery and screen in my OG SE

Achmed Jones posted:yeah. i hope they keep the form factor though. i really hate the idea that it's somehow my responsibility as a customer/consumer to buy product i want even if don't need them to show companies i want that product. it's a weird and toxic viewpoint - an extension of the idea that it's my responsibility to reward companies that do non lovely stuff rather than companies' responsibility to not be lovely. that being extended to the mere existence of a product is even stranger it's not your responsibility but it's the reality of capitalism, although i don't exactly see how a high-end small phone would be all that appealing in a command economy that had real problems to solve either

a command economy would produce nothing but 10 year old android phablets if it produced mobile devices at all.

it would be awesome if there was only one smartphone model. all software would run on it, you'd never have compatibility questions, people would customize and hack and improve them in amazing ways, they would be dirt cheap to repair, and there'd be an endless supply of parts and accessories. that's way better than the massive fragmentation we have right now. please give

it's a real marvel of modern socialist engineering, a hundred megabytes of storage and a 40 megahertz krolik-iii. the screen is a 480x480 16-color lcd, pretty good, although yours is really scratched to hell because they only produce 30,000 a year and you were lucky to get one four years ago because of your army connections. the main interface is the rigid silicone keyboard, and you really have to beat down on yours to get touches to register, but it's a new enough model to have the nipple. the state-provided programs are alright, but some of the non-state-provided programs are a lot better, if you know the right university students. you have to be careful, though, because some of them are considered subversive and side-loading technically requires specific authorization. a colleague from your department was up for special recognition, but they did some of the routine checks earlier than she expected and she hadn't wiped her phone yet, so she lost the recognition, and she's been a wreck ever since even though you don't think anything else is going to happen to her

the 12 mini just proves what we already knew: people bought the se because it was cheap, not because it was small. but i also agree with the management that it'll probably stick around on a slower release cycle because it really seems like the sort of thing people buy when they need a new phone rather than when they want one

Apple didn’t listen. yospos didn’t demand a smallphone, we demanded a smallphone with touch id and no notch. maybe if they’d bothered to make the product I want then I might have bought it. doesn’t prove anything general about the size of phone people want tho because like all new iphone designs it sucked in those other ways.
