God drat that looks so good. I'm so excited for this game! They really understand what makes this series work and what people enjoy and seem to make every sequel better than the first. This landscape is so much more interesting that Britain.

drat I wanna drive down that volcano so bad. makes you realize how modest even the biggest hills are in 4 I wonder if the dust storm just happens randomly in some places on the map when you're freeroaming, or if it's something you can set up for events and stuff?

Only playing for a short while, they really seem to get this feeling of grip, but it can slip on demand. I did the LaRacer one today, with the Integrale, and it really felt like it could handle any surface. I have a 90s Escort in some itasha livery that I like throwing into dirt events, and I use the Quattro S2 for traversal, or the Renault 5 as a bit of an all around car. Sure, they can't hit 400kph or whatever, but they can also just dip into the countryside and make a straight line to wherever instead of bothering with all that "paved roads" nonsense

The former is actualized potential, a feat of ingenuity and engineering. The latter is just plain fun; brakes are largely optional in a '65 Mini.

I've started playing some of the older games since my first Horizon game was 4 and it's amazing to me how much of the core experience in 4 is present in the first two games. I've gotten about 60% of the way to the finale in 2, and I'm about an hour into the first game, which gameplay wise feels very similar but presentation (and slightly gameplay too) wise feels like I'm playing Dirt 2 (with fake people instead of Tanner Foust and co).

Yeah, the only reason I've been able to pay them is a combination of second hand games and a series X. One of the big things I've noticed in gameplay is probably the freedom of the environments and destructibility of like trees and fences. You just can't take big shortcuts through fields in the first one (in the places I've been so far) and there are a lot of indestructible objects in 2 that I'll instinctively drive into because their equivalents will go down in 4.

Isn't that like super slidey mode lol I remember when I first started playing FH3, I hadn't realized that certain races would automatically use your current car and I entered an offroad race (in the dark and on ICE!) in my high performance Sesto Elemento or whatever I was driving and was so puzzled when I couldn't manage to win or even the approach the front of the race like I normally would.

I would love to play them. forza horizon 2 was the worst in the series imo, it can stay stuck in the past. map sucked, the game overall didn't bring anything new to the table, and the single-player was mind-numbingly repetitive. if you missed out on it, you kinda missed nothing of any real value. horizon 1 was really awesome though, wish they'd bring back the online challenges that game had, they were super fun. good times trying to do that 10(?) player challenge where you all had to stay above 200mph on the highway for a set distance or whatever, i think that took a group of goons like 3 hours to complete when we went for it. popeonarope being there prolly didn't help.

Another issue with buying on steam is there is no cross save between it and xbox, it's walled off. I'm going to do it through windows store since that's where I've always bought them and I guess I'm one of the lucky ones where they have always worked fine. Oh, I guess also windows store usually gets the demo 3 weeks in advance and I wonder if that would come to steam, probably not.

Jumped back into FH4 yesterday and immediately found something minor that I hope they've fixed for FH5 – when I change cars, I hate that all of the driveatars are all then in cars of a similar category. I know its ~My ImErSiOn~ but it would be good to see some minis tootling around when I'm in a Senna and vice versa.

It's the same reason you see a bunch of the same vehicles making up the AI traffic in any other open-world game like GTA. Reducing the number of vehicle datasets that need to be loaded in to memory lets you use more memory for other things, which matters a decent amount on PC and a lot on consoles.

The drivatars seem to be driving all sorts of things, and definitely different classes to the player car.

I've been playing the beta demo of Riders Republic and it is absolutely hilarious how much of a 'Forza Horizon but extreme sports' it's trying to be. Even the UI is distinctly familiar. I don't think it works nearly as well, but it does have some fun elements
