Yeah, I missed that stream so I really hope they put the archive of it on YouTube or something.

I'm listening to the album again now and it's so good. I've had How Not To Drown and Good Girls stuck in my head.

I found these uploads of it. Not offical so they might not be up for long.

The first, what, six songs on Screen Violence are absolutely bulletproof. The last four made no impression whatsoever. I have felt this way about every one of their albums since the first one but at any rate this one is very very good. Love it

I feel like I'm just not hearing what a lot of people here are hearing re this Chvrches album. Other than How Not to Drown and, like, Final Girl, most of these songs are just bouncing off of me.

None of them are bad, but they just feel like perfectly solid album cuts that aren't necessarily greater than the sum of their parts. The album basically ends for me with "Good Girls" cause I just fatigue out on the general vibe.

Cha-vurches makes good anthemic treadmill bops, just don't try to look too hard at the lyrics. But even the lyrics on Screen Violence aren't that bad.

Screen Violence is better than the last Chvrches album (not hard when the tracks on that were largely indistinguishable). It still suffers from Mayberry having no range on her voice so the only variation you get on the vocals is when they chuck in some auto-tune effects. Makes the album a bit of a chore to listen to but maybe it will improve after a few spins. The first 2 albums still favourites of mine.

It's a piece of JUNK!
As someone who's never really been able to get into any of CHVRCHES' albums, I think this is their best one yet. (I mean, I've always theoretically seen the appeal, but they didn't hold my attention.) Take that however you will.

Open Every Eye is my favorite of their albums, but the songs that hit me from that album prove your point: the little breakdown in the second verse of "Leave a Trace," the musical tension and release of "Clearest Blue," and the whole back end of "Down Side of Me" all add little bits of novelty that I connect with.

It's interesting that they don't really do many (any?) songs where Mayberry and Doherty sing against each other like she and Robert Smith do. I think it would help in terms of dynamics, but maybe they would just become Human League at that point?

One observation on Lauren's singing, I noticed Lauren's accent seemed more prominent in Screen Violence.

She even has a line in Final Girl about changing her accent... kinda has me wondering if that was an intentional decision on the 3rd album.

Her range, and voice overall, has definitely gotten better. Go back and watch old live performances from the Bones or Every Open Eye days, and compare them with more recent performances, and there’s a definite difference. For example, she often had to go to the lower octave in Clearest Blue on that high note, but now she can usually hit it during live performances.

Now that good4u is super popular I think that Paramore should bring Misery Business back into circulation with some reworked lyrics and call it Tragedy Enterprise. I accept venmo and paypal.

I don't think the single compares favorably to MUNA's earlier work — both of their albums are pretty good, and I can't remember the last song that shook me as hard lyrically as "Winterbreak" (the Tiësto remix (I know... I know.) slaps). "I Know a Place" is also good and "Number One Fan" is insanely catchy.

If you're looking for a band that has a similar sound but leans harder into the hooks, check out Fickle Friends.

I haven't really listened to them since their debut.. that's, fine I guess? But it seems really generic compared to what I expect from them based on what I know. The familiar guitars are buried in the mix. OFC maybe this has just been their style for the last 8 years I dunno

I like it too, probably better than Double Negative though they're similar, at least sonically.

The only thing is it's mixed so drat loud. With headphones on the vocals in particular are right up in your face. I turn down the volume for this album more than any other I can think of and still feel like I'm being shouted at.
