I checked out Justin’s Berries and Cream audio on TikTok, and the really remarkable thing is how unfunny the whole trend is. Usually in a big trend there’s some real winners but that is just people doing a boring basic dance or talking about how wearing their hair in a low bun makes it look like a bowl cut from the front.

That’s the real shame in all of this. Having a 15 year old commercial you uploaded be your biggest thing? Whatever. Having none of the community usage of it actually be funny? Brutal.

Also the original “Shower knife” audio is way more popular and it’s way funnier. But he didn’t upload it.

There’s actually a surprising number of McElroy bits that get used by zoomers for tiktok memes.

Little uncomfortable that Travis's Ethersea character is veering into "abuse survivor" territory (versus strict, cloistered upbringing) in a way that I don't think he is equipped to navigate. Hope this pivots a little.

Same, that was a great little scene.

It's a good sign for this campaign that I find myself doing an imaginary casting some of the NPCs (found myself imagining a middle-aged Ilana Glazer as the Hand of Guidance for some reason), and really visualizing a lot of the little interactions and setpieces. I can't say I did that for any of the previous arcs.

The Hand of Guidance being a middle-aged church mom is somehow much more intimidating

I also don't like how Travis is slowly but steadily imparting Main Character Syndrome onto Devo. I just hope that their next mission has something to do with Amber's backstory to balance it out.

I think it's more that Justin and Clint aren't really in full gear yet.

I'm not gonna complain about somebody taking the initiative--this is probably the first Justin character I haven't immediately enjoyed. Amber has her moments but she's also a lot...less than I was expecting, given her background with Ol Joshie.

Travis being extra af about main character backstory isn't new at all. Remember how he had all the crap with Magnus and the Governor or what-the-gently caress-ever all pretty much ready to go from the start of Balance?

I'm just glad that this episode Travis at least seemed to have talked to Griffin about the backstory thing, as opposed to the last episode, when he sucked the air out of the room with a longwinded character-driven rationalization for giving money to a random NPC instead of buying cool gear for their fun new ship.

It’d be cool if they could ask Becks n Scribs to explore the city while the PCs are out on missions and have them report back on any interesting goings on or new knowledge of Guthrie during interludes. It’s a cool underwater city setting, got to make the most of it.

I'd posted this when Devo was literally shaking about returning and didn't want to be left alone with anyone while there, etc. The actual interaction was better, but they're likely gonna go deeper over the next 5 3 episodes for this mission, so I'm cautious.

EDIT: That being said, I actually do love that Travis brings dramatic backstory to his characters. Divo's rationale for trying to help Beck made sense in character, and gave Justin a chance to flesh out his own character in a way that also made sense. I'm down for that whenever it can happen.

There's going to end up being an overarching storyline eventually that's just tabletop but he is trying it let it breathe for a bit (and hopefully a while) before going into one.

Travis did straight up go for "yeah my character was literally the chosen one" is some real Travis poo poo though. I really want Clint to find his feet soon.

It may not have gotten him any money, but Justin did directly lead to the creation of more little lad from that starburst commercial in the mid 2000's content so,

Wishing all the best to the little lad. May he have enough creative juice to not just immediately run the meme into the ground.

Having caught up with the scene in question I have to disagree with this and related takes. Devo's not any kind of chosen one, he just was assigned a career path by the people who raised him. He's rejecting it and striking out on his own path but it's more "gently caress you, Mom" than "gently caress you, Destiny".

The vibe is he was chosen to be a high powered person in the church which yeah that's coming back around given we're talking about Travis McElroy wrote his background.

The chosen for anything right on the heels of "you're not the chosen one's" no matter how you read it is funny and some excellent Travis'ing.
