Yeah thats fair. I do very much enjoy recon and I loved the MAV in 4. Sometimes I'd spend the whole game in our uncap flying my drone and spotting, destroying equipment. Hoping I get the chance to do that again.

Back in BF1 a good sniper put his flare in a bunker doorway while blasting his pistol. Hilariously, you couldn’t tell which team owned the flare, except if you looked at your mini map and see if it’s spotting enemies for you, but you also couldn’t destroy it. So a lot of people just ran through them and got lit on fire.

In BFV a good sniper just sat in his binoculars tagging people telling us how many points he was getting.

Was it BF2 where you could team kill friendly snipers by jumping out of the drivers seat while the empty vehicle ran them over? It counted as a suicide iirc so you wouldn’t get kicked for teamkilling.

I can see you've never played a conquest-large map where your team has only one flag, is down 300 tickets and has 15+ snipers off in the hills contributing nothing.

Plus it only encourages me to go find those snipers and continuously drop smoke grenades on top of them and now there's 16+ people off in the hills

Agreed, also I feel like the sniper class had legitimately good gadgets in BF3/4? But it was real rare to ever see them.

If you want to see in real time how useful a recon with a MAV is in the perfect environment join a Pearl Market game and try it out. Enjoy killing the enemy team with their own claymores too.

Honestly they should bring that back, popping tanks from 1000ft up with a guided missile was loving cool

That said I like to play recon by putting a midrange scope on a BASR with a decent cycle rate like the M40A5. It's fun to onetap people at long range and getting a cqb snap headshot off feels great too, and the scouting gadgets help your squad out a lot.

Not really. Everyone just said they didn't like snipers because they were bad at the game, as if being bad at the game is limited to sniping. Medics and support who are bad at the game are way worse. A friendly sniper off in the distance barely affects your gameplay, but a friendly medic who won't revive you? That's aggravating.

The problem with people all deciding to be snipers is that they, by design, move away from direct combat and set up in remote spaces with the best sightlines. This, in a game where points are captured by people being on them. Even if there's a lot of snipers who are good at taking shots and can legitimately kill people from far away, too many of them means that your team just can't accomplish goals.

This too, though I could never convince my buddy to do it. We finally worked out an arrangement where our loadouts were set up so we could just swap seats if we had a really annoying shitbird flying around, yet in our normal configuration we were still a terrifying force to be reckoned with on the ground.

I always find the sniper talk funny cause I snipe but I never camp and also have the most caps 100% of the time. (And often kills, too)

I was on Rogue transmission the other night and there's a guy on the central-ish tower by D unbeknownst to me and he suddenly starts spamming his DMR at me all panicked like, and I just looked around, had to look up and find his glint, then calmly blew the head off him. I wish I could remember what he all-caps'd into the chat. Those are the moments I live for.

And that open sight line means they're vulnerable to everywhere on the map, so that the instant a good sniper realizes they're there, they're dead.

Sometimes I just want to chill and join a random pubby game to hang back and headshot people from far away while I watch something else on my other monitor. It can be extremely relaxing. At the same time I get pissed when people do that when I'm trying to push points.

Also it's a lot of fun to sit way back with the tank and snipe people from across the map using it as basically artillery. Once you get good with long distance aiming you can shut a whole area down and they can't do much about it, especially if you get good at shooting helicopters. It will piss both teams off.

No. Even the worst medic or support can be used as a spawn beacon, and can capture points. Or a number of other things. Snipers camping on the outskirts of the map do absolutely nothing.

When DICE added Grind to BFV (an infantry only mode that makes Metro/Locker servers seem quaint) and you could end the round in first place, 0-0 by just sitting back and using spotting flares
