It was likely all in my head, but I swore holding the left stick forward made me swing faster in both Spider-Man games.

Thundercracker posted:Are you using the pull towards a crouch point and immediately launch off that combo? It's incredible speed especially if you mess up and need to catch up. When it works, it's great and helps build a lot of speed, but I can't seem to get it to show up in a consistent matter. It doesn't help that they also keep throwing me advice to build up speed (and falling down) by pressing L3 at the same time I'm trying to steer Spidey, target the right walls, point launch with X, and pressing L2 when needed -- and I'm not sure how valid that L3 tip is.

I think L3 is the dive, which technically helps build speed for the regular swing but the point launch is much better to reliably get a huge burst of forward momentum. Also once you learn to reliably get super fast and agile with the movement the collectibles are a joy to collect. The actual fight with electro is the other big gate because its probably the most finicky combat sequence in the entire game, but after that you're golden~

Can you record a video of yourself just trying this challenge a couple times? We’re all mere mortals and I think trying to describe complicated spider-man-chanics is gumming up the works. Using both triggers at the same time to pull yourself to a place automatically sets up the speed boost jump, all you have to do is hit jump at the right time, it’ll work literally every single time. If you can’t hit it 100% of the time then you’re not doing it right, and we won’t really be able to tell why without watching you. Even just 60 seconds of a clip would help up help u.

I picked up Talos Principle recently and the puzzles are pretty fun, but the text-based part is not enjoyable at all. The terminal aesthetic was clever at first, but the game’s commitment to doing all exposition and world building through a very involved Terminal Simulator within a FPS puzzle game is absolutely brutal. I followed along for a while, even after Googling to learn they weren’t mandatory, because I wanted to experience the game’s story, but gave up after the A world. It’s just too much. Poring over screens of terminal text is just not my idea of relaxing. I’m happy for the people who liked it and were able to get the full game experience. But whew.

I felt the same way until about 2/3rds of the way through the game but once it all starts to click it’s pretty great. I ended up liking the story a lot. I get that it’s a bit tedious, but ultimately I think it’s worth it. I don’t think you need to read every line of text, but I wouldn’t just outright ignore it. It’s more fun than it seems at first.

Yo, the forced stealth sections in Spiderman are absolutely awful. It's not that they're worse than other game's forced stealth section, though they are bad. It's more that they are the parts of the game where you aren't Spiderman and they are forcing you to play some loser who doesn't have cool powers and I hate it. The main gameplay is a ton of fun, stop punishing me for doing the story quests with this boring win/fail garbage.

Flashback sequences... that you can die in. Just imagine in the reality of this world that MJ recounts a story of what happened five minutes ago, ending it with "and then some guards spotted me and I died. No wait." Nobody will ever convince me this is not the stupidest thing in a video game!

Nah it's good when used well a la Full Throttle, Prince of Persia. Its bad in Spider-Man because those sections suck and are bad.

One of the prince of persias (though there it was the framing device for the whole game, not a one time flashack)?

I mostly enjoyed the one in central station where you play as MJ, and direct spiderman who to take out and when. Thought that was an interesting gameplay element, and felt cool assigning which goon is going to disappear into the ceiling when. Plus it still involved spider-man. But it went on too long, and there were some parts of it where it definitely felt like you were playing "guess the order and timing the developer wants you to do this in" rather than organically taking opportunities you spotted. The Miles one in the... scrapyard? Wreckage? Whatever, it sucked a lot.

I would go as far to say they’re some of the only instafail stealth missions stuffed into action games that I genuinely did like. They’re short and sweet and break up the action in a nice way. I remember the checkpoints being fair too. I wanted to be mad about them but I felt like they were well designed.

https://twitter.com/gameinformer/status/1435650835678121984 I always get triggered by the model of modern video game making where they just double down making more and more content for bad, already released games that no one cares about.

i liked the MJ/Miles sequences in Spider-Man except for the stealth, if that makes sense? like as little story vignettes/interactive cutscenes they're fine, but then the sneaking part should have exclusively been on rails with no way to fail then again i also liked playing pipe dream for peter's science projects so apparently ALL the bad things are there for me mcmagic posted:https://twitter.com/gameinformer/status/1435650835678121984 worked for no man's sky

Yeah there’s actually a decent number of games that recovered from poo poo launches and became good after significant time and post-release development now. It’s a workable model, if you have infinite money and the willingness to alter your core vision for the game, and Marvel has at least one of those

I actually liked the non-Spidey stealth sections. It was a nice change of pace and helped develop the other characters. I can definitely see how they annoyed most people, though. I’ll miss them if they don’t appear in the sequel, but I’ll understand because of so much negative feedback.
