friend’s daughter started middle school in NYC today, and she posted a photo I remarked with relief on the fact that she was wearing a KF94, and she said she bought them because of my constant harping about the superiority of KF94s then one of her friends asked where she got them and she posted a behealthy link yissss

Wed have to like remove quarantine restrictions and tell sick kids to go to school anyway to hit those numbers Still the schools will probably close at some point before then because there won't be enough staff to actually operate

Casey Finnigan posted:I mean after the vaccines came out and the alpha wave started to subside I was feeling kind of optimistic about the efficacy of the vaccines and everything. I feel like a lot of people concluded the pandemic was over during that time Yeah to be clear a huge part of why everyone is so insane specifically in America is your government and media. For better or for worse the government and media messaging in NZ has been extremely homogenous so far and fairly clear and factual, even to the extent of not exaggerating the efficacy of the vaccine or claiming that vaccines as they currently stand will be adequate without additional infection prevention methods. The libertarian party is just itching to live with the virus though and a few media outlets have tested the waters with some open biden stories but so far it doesn't seem like any of them are gaining traction. I do worry though that after a few more lockdowns people are just going to snap and try to pretend that we can somehow live like normal again while being ravaged like the rest of the planet.

Then the whole company is going to be hosed vs. just having one person out for a week.

Fix posted:I don't follow. Just go to the AAP mortality data. They added approximately 60 deaths over 3 weeks, and about 80 over 4. yeah that is extremely concerning is my point. it took 18 months to kill about 400 kids and then in 1 month we killed 60 more alone. its accelerating very fast. we probably won't see thousands of dead kids stacked like cordwood, but by december we could definitely see total kid deaths hitting 1000. which is pretty drat and catastrophically bad.... at a rate of 60 kiddos dead a month then we're basically seeing a flu season of kid deaths every 2 months. that's bad

Not 7600 dead kids by the end of November, but not great. Looking back at the past weekly data they correlated, we also had a couple of weeks back in the winter surge where you had 15 dead kids in a week, though that was probably lower than the real total because they had fewer states contributing data back then. Another possible contributor for the most recent rise to that particular report (apart from the delta wave and overrun hospital system, I mean) is that a couple more states have started reporting mortality by age in the last month, so the AAP may have gotten a few backlogged cases.
