I liked the demo but the thing that concerned me about it was the amount of content so I'll see if my fears were founded or not

e: apparently review copies had incomplete translations and that seems to definitely be affecting people's perception of it, as lore is kind of important in mystery fiction and apparently a lot of codex stuff was untranslated. also it apparently eschews mysteries in the final couple of chapters and instead goes at breakneck pace through a bunch of places with no detectiving. that's good info to have when considering buying it. but 10-15 hours sounds fine to me at least. $30 is a bit pricey for a game that is a mixed bag though.

Not sure if I was playing the game wrong because I hadn't played THPS, but ahh ... what a bummer that it's reviewing as it is because it's like a single person doing most of the work and I thought the mechanics would be buttoned down.

I'd listened to the soundtrack on loop last year.

Yeah I really wanted to like SkateBird as a huge tony hawk pro skater fan but it is just not there unfortunately. It’s cute as hell though! Just no interest in trying to play it when the version of the game it is aping from going on 20 years ago is still better as an actual game.

I also had similar issues with the thps remake that came out previous to the most recent one, it was also just totally off in control feel and was poorly reviewed as well.

Yeah, I gave it a try, but unfortunately the writing is not very good. Every character speaks with the same voice and it's overall just kinda bland. Which for a no-combat adventure/rpg game is a cardinal sin.

Also ran into the first puzzle mechanic, where I had to find some kind of invisible glitches, but every time I picked the wrong one, the whole thing would reset and honestly I don't have time for this kind of tedious bullshit. Just all around meh.

Yeah I gave it a quick try, it's just kind janky and bad feeling and the camera is an absolute disaster

However, I am REALLY liking Eastward and Flynn, Son of Crimson. Eastward is starting out a bit slow, but it's doing a wonderful job setting the scene. It's so beautiful and has such good characters. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.

Flynn is just a classic action platformer with some puzzle elements and enough interesting mechanics to keep it moving along. Reminds me a bit of that Beard Blade game that came out recently but so far I like it better. Also has GORGEOUS pixel art just like Eastward. We're spoiled to get such beautiful games twice in a row.

Had my eye on Tails of Iron for a while now. A very unique combination of elements here that looks cool to me

In Puerto Viejo you explore a port city in Golden Age Spain. Looks like it has some VN elements but also minigames and events. Could be a hidden gem, I'm at least intrigued

The original Aragami was all about stealth. If an enemy spotted you, you might be able to run away, but trying to fight them was pretty much guaranteed to be a losing proposition. That made it kinda niche and frustrating for everyone else, so they tried to bring in more combat in the sequel. I'm not surprised that they missed a little bit, but I'm also not sure what else they could've done to not just make the sequel more of the same.

I tried it a while back before the full release, the performance was really really bad, much worse than it should've been, and I found a lot of the scenarios kind of difficult. I'm curious if they've fixed some of that though, so you should let us know. I like the idea and I like how they arranged it in scenarios where you'll need to figure out what tricks to employ to get to the end.

PalmRide is kind of more of a toy or a cool looking screen saver, but drat it does look cool and if the music is good could be pretty fun. There is gameplay, mostly just avoiding obstacles and turning I think. Surprisingly doesn't seem like it's a mobile port. It's only a few bucks and people seem to like it

it actually made me more interested because it seemed like they were taking a bit from sekiro for the combat so you still had to be very good

I just hope that the sameness of the levels has been improved upon in the sequel because the first game's levels, thematically, mostly looked the same. there were a couple of interior levels that were neat, but yeah, even some palette adjustments would've been nice

I've cleared what I guess you'd call the prologue/chapter 1 and now have free reign to go where I want, it's fun! It feels relatively challenging to me and I was having a tough time until I saw that putting 25 skill points into medicine lets me heal up to full safely as long as there's a bed to rest in nearby, which is the only thing so far in the game I'm not that big of a fan of: fatigue and the general survival elements of the game. Your party has a shared encumbrance meter, and the player character also needs to manage hunger, thirst, radiation poisoning, and fatigue. It's interesting as far as nonlethal alternatives to bashing something's head in but eeeh. I am having fun though, and there's narration and voice acting for a decent amount of characters I've come across so far, solid recommendation.

Encased is great, we've been talking a bit about it in the Steam thread.
Its as good as how you remember Fallout 2 with some Stalker spliced in.
It is Russian made so has just a little bit of jankiness. But then that also gives it a bit of style.
But overall, its been a blast.

Well worth a look.

Like you're saying one thing about Eastward is that the gameplay: mainly exploration, combat and puzzles, is really undemanding for the most part. The gorgeous art and interesting story is really what's keeping me playing. It's enough for me but might not be for some people.

Flynn Son of Crimson also has absolutely gorgeous pixel art, except it really succeeds in the gameplay department while kind of having a more tacked-on story.
