That episode is notable for a red version of the SA grenade appearing on the flag behind the head rapist during their terrorist message video.

Coxswain Balls posted:Do the detectives ever shoot their guns in this show? I remembered that Logan ends up killing a undercover cop coming out of a diner in a CI episode. It eventually leads to Cpt. Deakins resigning (cop lied as paid back against Deakins arresting a cop earlier in the season) and leaving the show. I'm in my re-watch of the first 14 seasons and still no shootings.

The shootings really started picking up in the later seasons, and from what I hear also in the other L&O series. The way it leads to investigations like when Lt. Van Buren shot a mugger or Detective Green's last episode they actually carried some narrative weight, but especially once Bernard joined up they're gunning dudes down like it's no big deal.

SVU had shootings starting in season one and they don’t make much of most of them. It feels like most of the time the investigation into it, if they even show it at all, is usually done by the next commercial break.

I know that the other people in the cell with Jack are just defendants that are dressed nice because they're attending their own trials, but I'd like to think that when Jack got arrested for contempt he was thrown into special Lawyer Jail.

Fisher Stevens is an awesome defense attorney, I still don't know if his initial "it was God's will" opening statement was a strategic move or if he hosed up by being green. I was worried that it was going to be a plot about a rookie not defending a baby killer zealously enough and the route they instead went with was great. He made Jack so angry. I wish there was more of him but apparently that was his only episode. That Jewish guy they got for a couple episodes later on who initially looked like a nebbish was similarly entertaining, but he wasn't fresh out of misdemeanor court so it wasn't as funny when he'd be styling on Jack; he didn't get to the point where he'd refuse drinks from the guy after a case.

Randy Dworkin, played by Jesse Peterson. He makes a few appearances through the show. I think the first Dworkin episode is an interesting time capsule because of how Israel is treated. Like, it’s so incontrovertibly pure and noble that McCoy really thinks there’s a chance that the bookie might get away with murdering his partner.

What’s great is Peter Jacobson played Dworkin in the original L&O, then a few years later played the guy running the escort service in the SVU episodes that brought back Brian Cassidy, only to show up again as Dworkin years later for a few more episodes of SVU, notably to defend Barba.

Hand Knit posted:Is there anything within the story to suggest Tamin leaving? It's been a point of her character ever since she joined the squad that she has absolutely no problem with breaking the rules and / or going against orders when she makes a judgment call, which has led to a fair amount of friction with Benson. If I had to guess, that'll be the impetus behind her departure, she just goes too far off-book in a case. Kingtheninja posted:This sucks. I really liked Kat in the show, would really like to know the reason behind the decision to dump her. I mean, it's a Dick Wolf show, the cast being a revolving door is very much A Thing. I can't imagine Hyder was a very expensive cast member, so it could be something as simple as her wanting to do something other than a cop procedural entering its 23rd season. Watching an episode from 2003 about a carjacking which turns out to not be the main plot because they find vials of coronavirus in a cooler in the trunk. I know the original SARS epidemic was a thing back then but it's funny and quaint to run into the 'rona in a pre-Covid world.
