It might just be a bit of people not picking up on that because they're more used of they as ambiguous rather then intentional neutral and/or just stuck in the habit of their first assumptions.

I thought so too, at least, I'm not really picking up on when people are getting it wrong, maybe I've just happened to skim the posts/posters who get it wrong. :v:

I can't be bothered to find it but on like the second day after release some funny guy made a version with them in Minecraft. And then for some reason it took almost exactly three days of it being reposted occasionally before people started making different versions of increasingly high quality.

She really doesn't seem to remember it at all, you see inside her head a bit at the end of the game and she's freaked out about Kris but not apparently worried about killing Berdly. Never explicitly, since Kris never talks. But anyone who refers to Kris uses neutral, including Toriel, I think, and I'm pretty sure Toby on stream said it's very much intentional.

This.

Like, I get it. We've all grown up surrounded by a lot of bad assumptions, and it takes work to shake those biases when they're pretty much reflexive. At the same time, it's minimal effort to double-check yourself before slamming the submit button.

Also straight-up contradicting someone who is telling you something is happening that is upsetting them is a poo poo thing to do.

people bringing in their weird biases to just decide characters are male despite zero evidence to this (and copious evidence otherwise, that kris is thoroughly a They) does make me a lil aggressive, yeah

I feel like it's not unusual for people to use they in substitute for other pronouns, and strikes me as not impossible to not pick up on the intentionality. It's a very much "hey, didn't you notice no-one ever used anything but neutral pronouns for Kris???" kind of trivia.

Like iunno, I say this as someone who leans towards non-binary pronouns personally. I'm not surprised it can go over peoples heads, because people are so used to character/design coding and are influenced by personal biases, that "intentionally gender ambiguous" is still kind of a new thing?

Did he post anything clarifying this, because I saw the clip from the stream that everyone keeps bringing up and it he simply refers to Kris as "they" while they're playing, he doesn't outright state those are specifically Kris' pronouns. It's possible I'm just seeing the wrong clip of course, but the one I keep seeing past around doesn't really put a pin in it one way or the other really, and Undertale also refereed to Frisk as they/them like this game does for Kris.

frisk and chara are still debatably player inserts/ciphers for most of the game but kris's whole Thing is that they're a totally separate person with their own past and identity. if everyone they know calls them by neutral pronouns, it's because they prefer neutral pronouns

My disdain for you all knows no bounds.
Kris hasn't even been referred to with he or she pronouns in-game. Maybe just stop defaulting to one of those automatically when there hasn't been anything said in-game about it? There's even less excuse in Deltarune since Kris is explicitly their own character beyond a player avatar.

Back in the Undertale era, Toby said to think of Frisk as whatever the player was like, a player insert basically. This was during the pre-release period for the full game I believe, so Frisk actually being their own character wasn't known at the time.

Given that Toby went out of his way to say they/them on the stream, combined with the fact that Kris is explicitly their own person, I'm pretty sure he's not taking the same stance here this time.

Frisk being more than just a vague self-insert is an endgame reveal that mostly has meta meaning but in Deltarune it's clear early on that Kris is an actual character with a history and personality and all that. And much like how talking to people in town helps you learn that they're something of a weird prankster that misses their bro it also shows that everyone refers to them with gender neutral pronouns.

It doesn't really bother me when people use he/him because i'm assuming it's mostly subconcious but whenever anyone feels the need to be like "are you sure they're actually confirmed nonbinary officially???" it is kinda obnoxious.

I'm still under the impression it can be read as an intentionality to keep it ambiguous. But like, regardless of ambiguous or intentionally neutral, it still makes the most sense to use neutral pronouns for Kris in discussion, and I don't think anyone is really debating otherwise?
