Can anyone give general impressions on how the Battlefield games play on Steam? Specifically friends list, party joining, etc given how Origin still runs in the background. Does it use your Origin friends list or Steam friends list? I’ve got the other Battlefield titles on Origin but am interested in playing on Steam. My only experience with new EA games on Steam was Jedi Fallen Order, but that’s single player only and I never had to interact with the mini Origin client after booting up.

I was under the impression gold edition gave expansion packs for the first year rather than battle passes as we know them in BRs

Yeah so gold edition isn't necessary at all. Not worth it to have the game a week early when I'm still in the thick of D2R

If they specifically mention that you get the specialists along with the gold/ultimate edition battle passes, it makes me think they will use a system similar to siege (and apex) where the specialist drops alongside the battlepass and you can unlock them via an earnable currency (separate from a monetized currency), or you can skip the grindbux by unlocking them via purchasing the battlepass.

I'm mostly certain that that's exactly what's going to happen - I don't remember who said it and where, but there was basically confirmation that battlepass won't have entirely exclusive gameplay features like maps and specialists.

I'm all preloaded (through Steam), and the game even launches something. Crashes to desktop with a driver error. I wonder if that's just because the servers are not live, or whether there will be a last minute Nvidia driver. I have the latest WHQL - any rumours about driver requirements? EDIT: Now it worked, and I got through to the QR code page. Fingers crossed that it goes smoothly tomorrow. Looking at Reddit, there have been problems even getting it to load. By the way, the new EA app (origin's replacement) is also in open beta. It doesn't do anything better as far as I can tell and you can't run both at the same time. It detects your currently installed games so at least the transition is smooth. You can get the 2042 beta there too.

The different editions of battlefield have all followed the same path: Base game Base game + expansions Base game + expansions + art and music There are some skins in there somewhere but basically it's always been like that. Buying the Game + the expansions upfront has generally saved $10 vs waiting and buying them when they come out. In BF3,4,hardline, 1 it was all basically maps and some pre-order skins. In BFV they switched to selling DLC as characters and giving maps out free. This is good because everyone can always play and you dont have a bunch of basemap only servers. The characters were obtainable thru a money->boins conversion which put them at around $10 each. They were basically skins but they did have custom voice lines, animations, and melee weapons, which justified their price. I was able to get them all for free as giveaways over the 3 years of BFV's lifespan and they did often get sold in pairs at a sale price. You could also buy them by earning the boins by playing which was more difficult at the beginning of the games lifespan than at the end. Now you can get 100 boins each week by playing and a character is 900. The boins can also be used on gun skins or vehicle skins. I expect BF2042 to be similar but it sounds like they are now putting abilities on the characters. Perhaps it's like R6 siege where only that character has that special ability or perhaps its more like they combine a few common abilities onto them. Either way i'd expect a money->boins system to pay for cosmetics & operators which can also be earned in-game. If you would normally buy all the DLC because you play loads of battlefield then you might as well get it now. If you would normally only buy DLC if you were still playing a game then you should wait. Philman fucked around with this message at 00:20 on Oct 6, 2021 |
