Listen buddy, we all got problems!
I'm honestly not concerned about the jank. A lot of it will get fixed (or already is) and the rest will be fixed within the first few months.

My concerns are some of the design decisions.

Some thoughts after 5 hours

QoL
  • Game is missing lots of QoL stuff. This might be cos its an old build but battlefield has a habit of dropping tons of QoL between games only to slowly add them back in.
  • AI to fill games is fine, they are marked that they are AI, bit dumb but I get why they added them


Map design
  • This map has parts that are good but it feels like two maps stitched together.
  • Certain points are very isolated and you can end up stranded, mainly points A1 and F1
  • Its very very open, which right now isn't so bad but once they fix the sniper velocity (which i think they have to) its gonna be rough

Specialists
  • A perk and one gadget makes them very generic
  • Having the same specialists on each side makes it hard to tell friend from foe.
  • Load outs are a free for all, be a sniper with a rocket launcher or a medic with a sniper kit
  • Does anyone on my squad carry ammo crates? No way of telling now.
  • Squads now feel even more like a mobile spawn point than ever before because of this, no more 'well 3 assaults I'll go medic' cos those assaults might be actually sniping, who knows!
  • They feel like a gimmick and purely here cos everyone else is doing it and EA make their developers copy stuff from other games

UI
  • Really really rough, and while some of it i'm sure will change, some of it seems intentional and not just 'first pass' and I'm worried it wont get much better.
  • Glow effect on text should be a toggle
  • Everything is either too big or too small
  • Several elements aren't consistent or make sense. Such as why is the kill feed bleeds into the area enemies calling for revives show up?
  • Is there anyone even close to revive me? No idea

Gun play
  • Overall fine...Not amazing but not bad
  • The best sniper rifle atm is the 2nd pistol you unlock with a scope on it so that needs to change. Velocity on the snipers is far to low
  • movement feels floaty but i think that's down to the acceleration issue mentioned
  • needs a cool down on sliding else we are just gonna end up with the same slide spam as BFV is filled with in smaller maps/areas

Vehicals
  • Tanks are amazing fun
  • Infinite ammo and recharging health have me concerned though
  • Who is gonna take the repair tool if health just comes back after 10 seconds anyway?
  • I suck at air vehicles so N/A on those


Overall I am enjoying myself. It feels more like BF4 than BF1/BFV which i like. My main concerns is how specialists are gonna pan out and the amount of content, will it be BF4/1 levels of new stuff? Or BFVs?

gazing into my crystal ball, I see this game launching with a bunch of content but massive flaws that will delay post-launch content for at least three months as they scramble to get the game working.

So can you no longer spot enemies in the same way you could by pressing q in battlefield 1? I never played battlefield 4 but I really liked that mechanic because if you were outranged on all your weapons you could still be useful.

The repair tool is more suited for squads or duos in vehicles. The autorepair can be interrupted by damage, while the repair tool will heal you quicker and can let you shoot back or take a hit while a teammate repairs.

It's there but it doesn't work in any sort of consistent manner.

If you're about get get run over by a tank and you spot it, it will work 100% of the time, though.

If you do it on an enemy, it might or might not put a marker up. Maybe it'll give you an enemy marker. Maybe it'll have you yell to your squad to run there.

Maybe nothing will happen at all.

Tanks drive like a brick strapped to a hotwheel chassis, but I'm able to play aggressively with them so that's good.

I think the biggest positive sign is the wacky sandbox feel that was missing in BF1 and BF5 is back. The grappling hook alone is going to lead to some crazy stunts.

been having a ton of fun flying the helos. Littlebird is kinda ridiculous if you can aim the miniguns but its countered pretty hard by the attack helo and its lock-on rockets. Still hasnt stopped me from sneaking up on attack helos and shredding them from above. Jets can be tough to fight too but most jet pilots are terrible so its not too bad right now

Cant believe they gave rocket pods to the littlebirds, these things are gonna be nightmares in the main game if the other team doesnt counter them. I think the AA launcher is pretty good against the birds tho, IIRC one rocket does 65 damage so I usually haul rear end if I know someone is gunning for me with one of those

Attack helo is really fun too, but you need a gunner to make the most of it. drat things are pretty tanky and can take a ton of punishment from other helos. Their AA missiles are also fantastic at clearing the air and its really satisfying shutting down littlebirds that were farming your teammates

Overall, Im very excited for release, even tho it looks like its gonna be a huge shitshow. Im hoping the game will lean more towards the fun kind of broken instead of the unplayable kind, but we'll find out soon enough

outside of sliding and faster movement in general, pretty much nothing. It seems Dice is building upon BF4 and ignoring a lot of stuff they had in BF1/V, which has me worried since there are a ton of QoL stuff from those games that would really help here

The spotting mechanic was removed so you now have gadgets that spot or player spotting that is static instead of the dorritos on top of their head when you spotted in 4. Sometimes teammates are marked with red dots which is really confusing, especially since the teammate blue/green markers seem to have pop-in delay sometimes and are really tiny. I think that's part of why you often see teammates blasting each other.

That's also owing to the silhouette problems this game has, you can't guess what anybody (even teammates) has going on class wise. It unfortunately leaned into useless infantry visuals from BF V, whereas BF1 got it perfectly right.

There's been a decent amount of complaints about the specialists and that in the beta everyone friend or foe looks alike because there are only four available. My guess is that in the full release are going to be like how they are in COD:MW2k19 where functionally they're the same but each team has specific characters to choose from.

Yeah DICE has basically looked at V and how badly it did and just ignored it wholesale instead of taking what worked and moving forward with that. It does make sense considering they admitted they don't understand why people liked Bad Company 2

Note that you can change the colors of the kill markers in the settings.

They’re “No-Pats” which means the specialists fight for both sides. Thankfully justified in the lore ahead of time :thumbsup:

Which is silly cos BFV did some things well it just had a lot of bad maps and half it's content missing.

It's been mentioned but it does bug me that they don't real encourage teamwork and squads of four are too small. It would be nice if the squad lead had a gadget he could drop for spawns and there was a call-in that could carry the whole squad available at all times as well as anything else they could add to encourage teamwork. Like maybe spotting is stronger when you're by the SL or something, I don't know.

There will be 10 specialists at launch and the datamined and announced ones that we know of are distinct enough that balancing the game with them being split between the teams on top of only getting 1 specialist per "season" means they're going to be the same across both teams. Fairly sure DICE has stated as much

Thats pretty much where Im at as well. Was fairly hardcore from BC2 up until BF4 and then fell off the franchise for awhile.

I've got a few friends playing who have never played a Battlefield and they are pretty blown away so far.

As much fun as I'm having, I do agree with a lot of the nitpicks.

The anti-vehicle weapons seem a lot weaker in this than in BF4 were. Maybe you just need to unlock stronger ones.

I have R9 390 and as AMD has stopped the support for it because of it I couldn't even start the game as it requires latest drivers. To avoid it I changed the regedit info for the driver version and managed to log in.
I could play quite ok with low settings. But drat the beginning was harsh, couldn't get my bearings where I'm being shot from, where to expect the enemies and so on.

Also my aim is poo poo and long range battles suck for me so this map also didn't feel too good, I hate when there's no cover but those are just my preferences.

I can't tell who is friend or foe except for the little green dot. When I'm dead and waiting for a revive, I see people scrambling around me but I don't know if they are friendly or enemies. This specialist system/free-gear system kinda sucks for teamplay.

Also, is the FPS capped? I can't seem to break 60 fps even I turn down the settings. i5-9600k and RTX3070. Like I set things to low and 1080p and it still hovers around there. I didn't see Vsync in the options.

Don't the people that can rez you have a highlighted outline? Medics are blue, your squadmates in green. It sucks that you can't immediately swing the camera around to look for them when you get downed though

There are both v-sync and frame limiter options under video options. I barely get 80 frames at medium with a 3080, but I play on ultrawide.

Pretty much every Battlefield beta has been extremely buggy and when the game comes out most of those bugs are fixed and entirely new bugs are introduced instead. However, I don't think any previous beta had the map just flat out not work.

Yeah, I have no idea who is friend or foe either. Sometimes there's blue... dot? triangle? above their head, but over half the time, I can't see it before I realize I unloaded 20 rounds into my teammate. If you're in close quarter combat, the indicator is usually off the top of your screen where you can't even see it. Annoying.

And I couldn't get any of the weapon attachment selector menu things working at all. Do I need to unlock them or something? It's not very clear at all.
