I haven't seen landmines yet. Usually 2 or 3 of those would end anything.

For the specialist complaints, on top of only having 4 out of the 10 that launch is going to have, the beta has literally all the customization disabled; supposedly DICE is promising a fair bit of options for each specialist and the latest news about cosmetics/progression says you'll be able to mix and match headgear and outfits (albeit maybe not to the same extent as V since they only mention headgear and body, not headgear, body AND legs like it is in V.) The exception to this is apparently Legendary outfits which won't be interchangeable, which if I had to hazard a guess is probably outfits like the ones dropping with the special editions and preorders.

Still think a good compromise would just be offering faction specific color schemes and camos for the outfits, V had the same issue where you couldn't tell which class someone was at a glance but at the very least cosmetics and camos were faction specific so you could at least identify friend from foe.

Oh hell yeah. I imagine they will be keeping this in since they made a whole thing in the trailer of attaching c4 to an ATV and blowing up a heli.

Does the drone have enough range to get to the top of the big building if you are at the bottom. I'm going to be clearing sky wookies tonight.

I die so many times just trying to get a vehicle spawn to work in that awful menu it makes me want to stop playing.

orbital would probably feel more crowded instead of half the server aimlessly running around if:
the map button worked
objective hud markers worked instead of seemingly bug out
objectives called much more attention to being contested
vehicle transport call-ins and spawning worked
squad comms worked
pinging worked

It's about time for my once per decade ban for being a consistently terrible poster.
I will give the DMR the fact it can take AP ammo, which makes it easier to harass some jack-hole in a helicopter. Every little bit helps, especially if you have a few people with AP unloading on them.

The problem, of course, is that everyone regens health. So if you don't kill them they just sit quietly for 20 seconds and you wasted that limited AP ammo you have.

I'm hoping for hardcore servers or something where that poo poo is turned off.

You start with them but they're not equipped, hold T after you spawn to open the menu to equip them

Lord and I thought that was a bad limit on 64 player servers(on PS4), it should be like at least quintuple that number at that scale, especially for those of us who honestly are loving awful at the infantry parts of this game and get like 99% of their enjoyment out of using vehicles

Also the more and more I play this franchise the more I'm convinced that allowing players to pilot aircraft is a mistake and the franchise would be better without them

Each map will have different types and amounts of vehicles. I actually think this map is balanced well. I bet El Alamein has like 20 tanks at least. Super excited about that one.

2 tanks per team. Even for it's size I think this is a more infantry focused map. Lots of rough terrain and vertical and interior space.

if the hud indicators are accurate there are supposed to be per team 6 infantry transport, 2 tanks/AA, 2 attack heli/jet, 3 blackbird/transport heli

I think the infantry transport spawns are busted

each face button of the controller cycles the relative part of the tree. EG. A/X on xbox/ps5 changes the lower leg, Y/Triangle the top one etc.


e: the UI is 100% the worst thing in the game and it is actively fighting against you having any kind of fun in the game. the attachment changing thing is especially annoying because you rarely have enough time in a firefight to be loving around with it and there is zero explanation on advantages/disadvantages to it. you also cant rush through the menu because if you want to change your scope and press Y/Triangle too fast it cycles your weapon to the pistol instead.

Like I had no idea that AP rounds were only better against vehicles and had been handicapping myself on ammo because they hold less rounds per magazine (which also is not advertised on the loadout menu)

Yes. Go to mouse and keyboard > vehicles > vehicle zoom ratio and read the description, and then change it to 100.

Felt like it helped a bit but it still feels pretty weird

Specialists add nothing to the game you couldnt add to the class system while also making it impossible to tell who is on your team. and what those team mates can offer.

you cant even recognise anyone at a distance beyond 30m so i dont see what the point is.

Oh yeah this sort of helped. It made me notice that I'm zoomed in all the time and have to hold right click to un-zoom. Wierd.

I think the tactical attachment system adds nothing to the open beta version of the game and could've been replaced with an alternative fire mode button which switches to AP ammo/shotgun slugs/underbarrel/silenced.

Is it fun to min/max and tactically switch to long/range/silenced barrels or iron/long range sights? Is it fun for your AR to have 3 separate ammo pools and mag sizes? Does it add interesting decisions? No not really.

At least on PC if you set up your keybinds well, it is very easy to switch the attachments mid combat if you already know what you want to switch to in what situation. Is it fun? No.

Maybe the full version of the game will have interesting options :shrug:

I like it for all the attachments except ammo. I hope they just change it to a shared pool of ammo instead of splitting it up across 3 magazine types, two of which I might not even want to use. I imagine we'll unlock more in the main game and select 3 or attachments per category.

One of my big gripes is that, although bullets do damage to the enemy, it doesn't seem to otherwise affect their movement, their aim, anything.

Also, I've had indicators that show me I've had two headshots+ on hits and still lost the fight after taking two hits.

Being able to swap attachments on the fly kicks rear end. Having AP rounds for many weapons makes harassing vehicles so much better because chopper pilots are all cowards.

Agreed. Everyone is either an ant or jumping around in your face and you don't recognize who they are until the fight is over.

Don't want to get all negative but IMO by far the worst Battlefield I've ever played. Launch + patches will fix the jank, but Battlefields are all about that secret sauce where all the mechanics click and making cool plays or helping turn the tide is always possible. No gameplay mechanic in this fits into any other in a meaningful way, from the squad mechanics to the map layout to the gunplay. I don't know how you really fix it except start over. I didn't love BF1 or V like I did BC2 but they had a lot of heart I guess? and moment to moment were fairly engaging.

I also don't think this will make sense in the long run. Sure, it's lame when BF turns into whack-a-mole, endlessly respawning to counter whatever random situation just made your kit useless. BF1 and BFV definitely let this happen too easily, especially with vehicles.

It's a tough balance but I think they swung a little to far in the other direction. I'd go for something more like:

  • Guns can have a single pre-selected sight added or removed (iron sights)
  • The over/under sights adds the flexibility you need without getting comical (having 3-4 other sights in your backpack? cool)
  • Attachments take 5-6 seconds to add/remove.
  • You pick a main ammo and the other is a perk or at least just a single mag on the side.
  • Other flexibility comes from, for once, a meaningful way to assess and pick up dropped guns and ammo.

I went back and tried Battlefield V and Battlefield 1. Every feature from previous games has been downgraded in Battlefield 2042. Every new feature in 2042 just makes the game more fast paced and less team oriented. This whole game is just a straight downgrade for me. Cancelled my pre-order.
