I had forgotten 4 was a rehash at this point tbh. I just remember destructible squad based combat that was fun. Also i really like levolutions or whatever they were called.

Im aware that biases me on these map events in 2042 because i was really hoping theyd have that sort of tactical impact but instead its happy fun swirly storm and occasionally rocket does something that affects almost no one.

Beta wise i remember being at least hooked with Bf 1 and then seeing all the stuff in the beta not fixed in base game was disappointed. In BF5 I remembered that BF1s beta had been fine and was a bit more skeptical but still enjoyed the beta. 5 also went on to have issues in beta that did not get fixed for a wild amount of time.

In 2042 i played a few games and was so tired of all the bugs and poo poo that i just turned it off. Also with the context of the last few betas i cant even say that they will fix it on launch / quickly.

There wasn't that much that was destructible in BF4 outside of the levelutions which were pure scripting, at least compared to BF:BC2.

My favourite was the one they pushed out just before Christmas after launch. So the community was stuck with it for weeks.

Devs are people and deserve time off. But pushing out major gameplay changes just before a major holiday was a dumb management decision.

Was that the one that made the TTK longer so that, if I remember correctly, one of the devs said it'd make the game easier/more accessible for the Battlefield V-as-holiday-present crowd?

If so, I loved that one

I didn't really get the rocket thing... Is it just a random event? Sometimes it launches, sometimes it explodes? Sometimes it does nothing? Can you affect it somehow?

It usually enters a launching state at a random time during the round. You can notice it by the siren, the support structures folding away from it, and all the mist coming off of it. If you then cause enough damage to it, it will explode. Otherwise, it'll launch.

But I don't think the rocket exploding really affect the map even to the extent of a fallen blimp in BF1. I never got the tornado in the beta, does it actually mash up buildings and stuff, because from what I could see/read, collapsible structures are completely gone too, all you can do is blow out a couple walls.

4, 1 and 5 are currently poppin' off honestly. There was a bunch of full servers on 4 still, and those aren't even official ones. 5 has a ton of full breakthrough and the two conquest modes. Apparently 1 is doing well too, although I'm still installing it so I can't testify.

bf2042 is going to rule a year from now, shame it comes out next month

the biggest problem with BFV was "balance patches" out of nowhere with massive sweeping changes to TTK, then another one to revert it after backlash, then another one because it was too slow again, then another one because it was thursday, etc. if they can avoid doing that and just plug away at it like they did BF4, it'll be worth buying on sale.

I won't have time to be able to play 2042 until late December/January anyways due to work. So...at least by that point I'll know if it sucks or if it was okay but then gets a bad case of BFV Dev.

Seriously, those loving changes. It really sounded like some manager going "No, I know how this game should be played and you have to deal with my balance!" That, and the bug updates that seemed to add more bugs (invisible panzer divisions! Only visible in Hitler's mind!) killed my interest.

I think the reason that people have been clawing at this beta like junkies outside a methodone clinic is that for a lot of people, battlefield HAS been dead for some years. I don't know anyone who was saying BF4 being a re-hash meant that it was dead, just that it was a poor value at $60. I do know people who went to playing COD Ground War just to try to get a battlefield-like experience in 2020.
Ground War was cute in a "look they're trying" sort of way but never had a patch on Battlefield since it was just a technical test for Warzone... and I will admit to playing Warzone proper, with a 4 man squad and voice comms and vehicles abound and C4 aplenty it really did scratch that BF itch.

You could still blow holes in just about every concrete or wooden wall, you could still collapse 2 kinds of buildings (including that same square building that was in BC2 and BF3 because why make a new model), and you could still chop down any tree. The levelution was the big new thing but the standard level of destruction was there.

It had all kinds of APC's and attack boats and and attack heli in the camo customization menu and all I ever saw was like one or two APC's, it was so disappointing.

But at least those APC's played Rick Astley.

I know that a ton of the buildings wouldnt collapse but they did end up blown out shells etc which was ok. I understand the need to balance between destruction and maintaining a playable map.

I still remember fighting to hold this little island on the map with the big dam (no idea of the name) and that island started out a nice little tropical island with trees and ended up a cratered mess of mud everytime which was a fun thing.

Levolutions being scripted is a fair point but i mostly just like that they did things to the map. As people have said the rocket is all sorts of pointless. And the tornado does gently caress all except pick up cars sometimes? I dunno. Doesnt hurt to get pulled into i can confirm that, you just fly right back out.

Hardline was either limited to 24 or 32 players and had next to zero destruction, so that was kind of a bummer. And focused around the heist mode which wasn’t overall too bad. The bank map it had was badass and overall it was actually a really fun game for a bit. It died pretty fast though and bf4 had better support

Management is allegedly not committed enough to the project, with creative being simply told to do X, Y, and Z. One of these management figures was simply described as a “yes man”, and apparently things have “been s*&t since”.

Problems brought up to management also fall on deaf ears throughout the development process. Ultimately creating issues that DICE could have solved earlier in the development process.

As for the lack of creativity, management loved some of Modern Warfare 2019’s aspects that much, that the studio was supposedly encouraged to create something similar.

This guy sucks. This is all speculation and his reporting before beta was all about how great everything was shaping up and how things were ahead of schedule. Seems like he just goes with general community sentiment for clicks.

Edit: People are speculating the MW2019 feature they loved was Operators allowing them to monetize skins better. Not sure I buy that exactly. Halo Infinite will make bank with customizing your Spartan without attaching characters to it, but it is a trend in gaming so maybe.

I mean it's very clearly inspired by MW2019 Operators and there is literally no other reason to do that besides monetization. My guess is they saw significantly higher sales of their character skins in BFV than their generic soldier options and put two and two together.

The tornado is so obviously an "event" that they can easily copy paste into any map to check the Big Event box which is why it has no impact whatsoever.

I kind of like how the Tornado works, not sure if it always forms with the storm, but it kind of builds to it as the weather gets worse and then off in the distance you see it forming with lightning and dark skies. I have also seen it traverse the whole map and end up at the rocket, so it doesn't always spawn at the end.
