I understand that most goons in 2021 would definitely lean to the left side of the political spectrum (and I commend the work the mods have done in weeding out some of the most reactionary/bigoted elements of the forums in recent years), but I thought it would be interesting to discuss some of the more conservative opinions we hold. Hopefully this might lead to some interesting (and hopefully respectful) discussion. Some of mine include: -I believe government spending needs to be somewhat limited -The effect of violent media (especially video games) on children and adolescents can't be understated, and it's concerning how prevalent it is -Tattoos are often a terrible decision that will lead to nothing but regret later in life

Most poaching is committed by poor, desperate people who are starving and have no other source of income, so focusing on protecting the animals won't end poaching. It would be more effective to just give money directly to the poor people in Africa so they don't have to hunt and sell endangered animals to survive. Also, going vegetarian won't save the rainforest because the brazilians will just burn it down to grow lovely agricrops instead of meat pastures. The only solution is to decrease the population of Earth so there's less demand for food. Which brings me to: It is abnormal for an animal's population to increase year after year. Populations are usually limited by environmental factors but if humans are at the point where their population keeps increasing then they are having too many kids.

We show id for a lot of things but not voting. If id were easier to get, especially for disabled and poor working folks and immigrants I'd be okay with having to show your id for voting purposes, but my spouse is also in the military so it's very possible that my acceptance of showing my id for everything isn't typical of most folks. I don't like weed being legalized when we already have such a poor structure to support those with dependency issues/DUIs/etc for the substances that are already legal. If we had a better support system, I'd probably be fine with it.
