I want to buy a french press. Is there any particularly well regarded one?

Ideal specs:
* not plastic
* dishwasher safe
* can do a few cups at a time
* well insulated

Hard mode: I'm trying to buy less from Amazon so ideally I can pick it up from somewhere else.

Ikea has cheap glass ones if you just wanna gently caress around with beans for a while while you get your bearings. come in both just a cup and monday morning sizes

If you want "well insulated" there are double wall steel ones, and I have a random one one off amazon that works fine and is nice because it's hard to break, but I'm not sure it completely makes sense to have an insulated french press because if you leave coffee in it it will be overextracted.

I’ve got one too for camping and it’s needs suiting. Very generic product, you can find them for a very reasonable price at a bunch of retailers, not just amazon.

I’ve got too many broken glass ones in my history. Someone’s going to put a metal spoon through the bottom or launch the glass out of the holder while tapping out grounds at some point.

yeah the only glass thing i use regularly anymore is my pourover flask because i’m too much of a klutz for anything else.

those double walled espresso cups were great while they lasted tho!

i've never broken a french press but i've also never had a particularly good cup from one. maybe I never figured out the right size & brew time.

imo the right way of doing a coffee is doing it in a way that makes something you like, so if that's possible, it's good to troubleshoot

i found my french press would usually come out bland, and also contain a bit of sludge. if i brewed it for longer it'd be more bitter but still lack discernible flavour. using coarse freshly ground beans and boiling water.

you might just not like french press ofc, and you should try doing some pourovers in place if you don’t already

i’d grind slightly finer and see if it gets you anywhere

a little sludge is probably always going to happen
