I was listening to NPR earlier and they briefly mentioned a huge shortage in truck drivers. Not any specific area, just all truck drivers across the US. That's going to take big hit on supply problems. Maybe your area is just doing better. The supply issues you might actually be seeing aren't products missing but the rising prices like gas and beef.

Red meat prices are up but I don't eat steak anyway. You can get anything you want at the grocery store. Not a big price increase on staples either. Gas is up a bit but nothing insane. 3 reg 3.50 high octane... so maybe 20 cents more a gallon than pre-pandemic? Wendigee fucked around with this message at 23:27 on Oct 20, 2021 |

We should increase the number of products in the stores, especially good products, while decreasing the prices. This seems like a solution that would satisfy everyone

So many that the cost of a trailer went from 17k *used* to 45k. The dudes who own multiple rigs are selling the extras because they're worth so much now because the trucking industry has blown up over the past three years. No one can find places to park for the night at truck stops because they're so full. Mechanics are taking weeks instead of days to fix things.. These dudes are making so much bank, the load payouts are double what they used to be. Maybe they mean the smaller trucks like the UPS sized ones that are company run and operated? I filled up my gas for the first time n a month, the price was the same. $3.50 for 93. I'm in the midwest. No supply issues in any stores. Shelves are packed. Went shopping at a HyVee lastnight and didn't notice anything bare or less stocked. Philthy fucked around with this message at 15:55 on Oct 22, 2021 |

These dudes are making so much bank, the load payouts are double what they used to be. That's not really counter to a shortage though? The truck drivers are feeling great, but that's what it looks like when there's more demand for truckers than trucks on the road. And while the shortage persists the guys in the industry will feel like "everyone wants to be a trucker" cause like duh, they're making bank. Eventually enough people will become truckers, or the demand for shipping volume will taper off, and it'll recede to normal. There's effects like this in economics from things that are "price insensitive". It's like, if you can't move your product to where it's sold, you can't sell it. If I have a truckload of oranges in florida that I want to sell in NY for $100k, how much should I pay to truck them there? Well, if the alternative is the oranges rot and become worthless, I should pay anything up to like $99k because getting $1k is better than making nothing.
