Seriously, 146 yards has got to be way up there in terms of first game starting at RB. Broncos might be bad, but D'Ernest was amazing.

Browns knelt at the end, because we had hit 100 yards rushing in the third quarter

obviously comparing apples to oranges giving D'Ernest's history, but Kareem Hunt had 17 carries for 148 yards, 5 receptions for 98 yards and 3 TDs in his first game, back when the Chiefs were still good guys and we thought the Pats were suddenly dead

no idea what's the record though

e: apparently it's Alan Ameche in 1955 for the Baltimore Colts? rushed for 194 yards

e2: I'm dumb I thought this was Johnson's first game, not first start, but he already had 3 carries before yesterday

I took the octopath less travelered,

And it made one-eighth the difference.
It's always nice when an UDFA pops up and immediately kicks some rear end. Hopefully this wasn't an abberation and he can make some good money with another team next season.

Only if you didn't watch the game. D'Ernest earned about half those yards on his own.

Strong stroll for a mangy stray

hard to express how awesome this is. it just makes me happy that this guy kept the faith and kept working, believed that he should be in the NFL and was willing to do anything to try and get there

the number of former AAF/XFL players now in the league is... kind of incredible to be honest. Several backup QBs, some RBs, defensive linemen and defensive backs; there are a surprising number of them now. Makes you wish one of those was still around for guys to show what they can do.

I feel like NFL teams often ignore guys like this, they either want washed up veterans or fresh rookie top picks but there are some good players out there who just need a chance.

Johnson was identifying where he needed to go, hitting holes with speed and power and pushing forward when he met resistance. He looked really good out there.

They have one of the best O-lines in the league.... when they're healthy.

That said, D'Ernest looked to have extremely good vision, hit the holes, and was able to put the moves on defenders, had real good lateral movement, and even get a few extra yards after he got hit. He played extremely well.

Look at this juke he put on Surtain, who basically had him dead to rights at the line:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejBAIvNByIk

He easily turned 0 into 9. He played extremely well, even considering "lol Broncos."

D'Ernest reminded me in a good way of an RB we used to have, Fred Jackson. Very balanced style and great vision.
