Solo it's down to how quick you can press keys I'm afraid.

From my experience in the beta it's probably for the best that it's slow to switch from piloting to the C5 trigger. Giving one class a portable, no-risk, small (hard to see / shoot), guided instakill on infantry and most vehicles would be broken.

Forcing the slow detonation unless you're working with a teammate seems like a reasonable compromise. You still get to do the fun bombing run, but you're going to miss part of the time if the enemy is moving.

Will there be more maps for bf3 or is that all we get?!

DICE (and Ripple Effect?) will make content according to what is getting the most playtime. If Portal, and especially if BF3 content specifically, is a big hit then they will absolutely make more of it.

It's literally the job of a few people at DICE to monitor the game's metrics then go to the team and say "Yeah, people love X, go make more of it."

So if you want more Portal content, hope a lot of people play it. The jackpot for you is if Portal ends up being more popular than the "standard" 2042 modes.

Can't tell if the game actually turned out good or the inevitable bugs preventing even starting the game is holding back all the negative takes

Either way being away from home for the weekend will give me a chance to gauge reactions and decide if I wanna buy next week or not

128 feels a little too chaotic. You could make a big individual impact even on foot in previous titles. Very difficult to get a streak going now. Days of swaying a match with an individual performance seem over.

Game is pretty awesome to be honest, they really did work out a lot of the issues with the beta. I haven't even touched Portal yet, but the big Conquest maps are really good. Vehicles are really strong though, especially choppers and I am not sure where I am supposed to hit to kill tanks, but really good game so far. I'm doing the EA trial and think I will just buy the $90 on Steam at this point.

Main issues are performance isn't the best, I have DLSS on and don't see a huge improvement, but I think I have everything turned to max, I think I should lower some things, but still hitting over 60.

As other people have said, sound isn't the best.

Menus are kind of buggy, it's easier just to look at the objective and hit Q rather than try and get the SL menu to work right.

The cross menu sucks, I just want the normal loadout thing, but whatever, I'll get used to it.

Shit.
I played a little of BC2 in Portal this morning, and maybe it's just rose colored glasses or getting stomped on arica harbor, but it wasn't what I expected.

I never played 1942 so I'm excited for that.

The main thing I'm missing so far is more dense urban maps, maybe I just haven't got on the right map yet but they all seem to have like at most a few skyscrapers very far apart from each other

Maybe I'm misremembering though? I feel like I remember rolling tanks down narrower streets with buildings on both sides in past battlefields but it's been a long time

I also have to admit I do like the "kill tunnel" grinder maps like subway or locker occasionally and I'd like at least one of those

128 breakthrough is just pure madness. The conquest maps still feel too large, just drop somewhere and try to get something done with no clear direction. In previous series it was more coherent.

I've never played BC or 1942 so those were my first experiences with them on portal.

Honestly I don't see the appeal to 1942, strange classes, where you have to spawn with a certain situation in mind. And if the situation has already been resolved, then good luck running to a different point with AT rifle and a pistol in your hand, and there's no cover, so it sucks.

BC is fun and now I understand your good memories of it. It took me and the team a while to understand that you need to blow doors on the overturned train to get to that one point, but we managed to jump that hurdle and win in the end.

In the BF3 mode I felt like home as it was my first BF game.

All in all I like this game and I'll play it more.

Yeah honesty, just keep porting old maps and creating new ones. Honestly just make it a live service. I'll take that over having to buy a new BF each year, just sell the addons...I mean I prefer free, but EA...and it does need to generate continued revenue.

Best part is my 5 year old son loves the objective names. He'll randomly ask for me to play the game "with Objective Butters." :)

Yes this is definitely a thing and I don't get how DICE continues to miss it. The best maps have historically had a good combination of smaller destructible buildings and larger complexes or hilly terrain (most of BC2 and some of BF3)

Hopped into portal and I had a lot of fun but I do have a major gripe: squad only revives extend to BF1942? Not being able to revive anyone with the medic kit is a major nerf to their usefulness and scoring capacity, I always played 1942 (and everything up until now) as a dedicated revive machine and often topped scoreboards with those alone, so it’s a big loss for me not being able to do that

Otherwise I absolutely love the old maps and the game runs extremely well at 144hz on ultra settings (RTX off, that caused some hitching) on my 3070

You most definitely did not play 1942 as a revive machine because 1942 had no revives.

I've really fucked it. Have I fucked it?
Played about 7 hours before the servers poo poo the bed, and really had a blast. Had some real intense moments, and actually enjoy the high playcount due to the chaos of 3-4 squads hitting a point and rolling over the enemy.

Chaotic fighting in Hourglass stadium during a full dust storm felt a bit like the desert maps of 2142 mixed with the corridor fighting on the Titan.

Soundtrack is a bit overpowering at times, so had to turn it down -- but I do like it. Reminds me of the Tenet movie soundtrack which I really enjoyed, too.

I think I mentioned before, but performance has been solid for me. But it should be with my rig -- this game was the reason I finally upgraded. Steady 100+ FPS on Ultra @1440p. 5900X (12-core, 24 threads, nice big L3 cache), 3080, 32GB RAM @3600MHz (supposedly sweet spot for Ryzen). Stuck DLSS on later, didn't seem to make a big impact.

I abused the poo poo out of 3D spotting in BF3 and BF4, and was bummed when it was removed from BF1 and BFV, but I got used to it. Now I like to have a run and gun assault build on Casper (AR + med bag), and keep jumping into my drone to spot for my self and check the situation. My other main was the wing suit character. Fun to get around fast. Not 100% figured out how to control it best, but it seems like WASD is the way to glide.

I'm looking forward to the patches. I think people maybe forget how big the first 3-4 patches were for BF4. Tons of QoL improvements.

I was playing it last night, in fact. But the playerbase will dwindle over time, so I am excited that Portal may give it a longer life.

Also, I like the idea of mixing things up: Using the BF1 Landships on BF1942 maps, for example.

So I am rooting for BF1 content in Portal despite the fact that, yes, BF1 still has a playerbase.

If they don't add BF1 maps with the train and airship they'd be loving insane, it's just printing money. Just like Midway in 1942. People would drop 20 on just that.

Had a real panic moment when I first tried to launch the game. Had a warning that said the game couldn't launch and I had to reinstall, and doing a repair/forcing an update did nothing. Googled the issue and the first thing recommended was upgrading the drivers, and I had a real forehead-slap moment. Seeing as I've only been playing MW2019 and Apex I hadn't updated my graphics drivers for, like, a year. Such a huge relief it was an easy fix.

The game ran at around 60-70 fps at 1440p low with a gtx1070, which is way lower than BFV, yet also better than expected given the beta.

The game was fun, though the menus were very unintuitive, and clicking the breakthrough option would just launch conquest, though that may be an issue with low player counts in Australia. Couldn't seem to get Portal matches either beyond 1hp bot matches, likely the same reason. Hopefully that'll even out with the general release.

Personally I'm surprised how much I like 2042. Once I got a feel for the specialist system I came to really like the build your own class nature of it's. Had a great round in breakthrough where as Angel I was dropping armor, health, ammo and large crates people can fully rearm on through the whole round. Any place there were people gathering.

On the second to last point on Discarded we came over the rise to the vista overlooking the points, tracers everywhere, explosions and a huge cyclone in the distance behind it.

With Portal here to satisfy my conventional bf needs I am enjoying AOW quite a lot as a different experience.
