Yeah I went ahead and ordered some cases to put the discs in, had to clean 3 of my zilla discs of light glue on the edges. Keeping the discs in a binder until they arrive. I like having the boxes standing upright and don't have another spot for them. It made me go check my other criterion boxsets with similar design (zatoichi, Bergman, varda, fellini) and they're all good

Best Buy just updated my preorder for Arrow's Shawscope boxset to the 28th of December. Edit: Oh wow, that Coffin Joe news is huge! I had read before that there weren't any elements available for HD transfers. Amazing! Day one purchase.

Apparently there's some sort of controversy about the audio track on the Road Warrior UHD. I don't really have a legit audio setup so I don't care that much about sound issues tbh but I just thought I'd mention it. I'm not knowledgeable enough to describe exactly what the issue is. They're talking about it on the blu ray.com forum for the movie. In terms of visuals all of the comments seem to be very positive.

I want to know if Mad Max 1 in that set looks as good as the Kino Lorber release. I think it lacks the Dolby vision of that disc which might be okay, but I'm worried Warner cheaping out on the encoding.

Definitely not regretting buying Road Warrior, it looks fantastic and as someone who hasn't seen the movie 100 times I didn't really notice any of the audio changes people were discussing on the blu ray forums, or any delay in the audio.

Rewatched Skyfall on UHD and holy hell, Sam Mendes/Roger Deakins did a hell of a job with this one  That Shanghai fight is so well shot. During the VinSyn sale, if it's included and you're looking for a good 4k demo disc you can't go wrong with Awaken. It's an 83 minute in-store demo disc, set to music, and I mean that in a good way. Other than a couple points, it would probably be a good watch for being under the influence of certain psychedelics. It does say "narrated by Liv Tyler," but that's a bit of a misnomer since she's only got a few lines in the very beginning and very end.

drat, I'm watching A New Hope on UHD and it looks good  It doesn't look as new as the new Star Wars movies, obviously, but it doesn't look 40+ years old either.This transfer rules. I've gotta compare it to 4K77, which admittedly I haven't watched in a while, but yeah. This was definitely worth the $13. Not sure if the same is true of Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but I'll watch those later and compare. It's a shame this is the Special Edition, though. For that reason, it will always be inferior to 4K77.

Fixins posted:Was the Arrow Dune release end up being Any good The UHD suffered from some manufacturing problem, they're doing exchanges for it, and I personally can't vouch for it, but the BR is an excellent transfer and the physical materials are neat and while I think the supplemental material is all from the earlier Universal releases it's still nice to have. The one big disappointment is the Alan Smithee TV cut isn't included anywhere.

Supposedly they're aware of the issue now so if you buy from them directly there's a good chance you won't get a detective disc, anywhere else might have old stock. That being said, I ended up with a replacement disc from Grindhouse which I still need to watch to confirm is not also defective. The ticket I opened with Arrow at the same time (Grindhouse told me too then sent me a replacement a week later for some reason) resulted in their customer service not agreeing to send me a replacement until they could confirm a replacement program would be in place. Seems like their CS is handling things unevenly.

Depends on how deep you're into this whole physical media thing because a lot of people here like to buy stuff from other regions and you'd need a region free player to do that, plus the PS5 doesn't do Dolby Vision which is a marginal upgrade but still, some people really want to have that best possible UHD experience and Dolby Vision definitely does make a (small)difference. But you may not even have a T.V. that can do Dolby Vision, so that may be a non-issue.
