This could be a candidate for a carbon monoxide detector.

this is peak perfect yospos content and I thank OP for bringin this holiday sacrament to us.

We had people like this come to the phone store I worked through college. Normal conversations go off the rails as soon as they understand you have to listen to them. phone calls being "bugged cause theres a click every time I speak" , "all these apps keep showing up", "my internet gets really slow only when i check my bank", etc... boss' son probably has a brain tumor. You could be the hero that tells him to get check out.

Or get his computer and put it in some kind of sandbox to monitor activity.

fellas I’ve got a truly absurd case here, cannot figure out if this guy (my boss’s son) is having a mental issue or if there’s some vast problem going on, could anyone maybe suggest anything I could possibly look into:

He’s been having a recurring issue for 6 months at this point, that’s followed him through any number of new phones, computers, etc, from Mac to Windows to Linux, showing up a couple of days after he’s brought new computers and the like. he’s got rid of his router, apparently all his iot bullshit, and it still keeps showing up

there’s not exactly a tremendous effect, it’s more like certain features get overwritten - his audio stuff basically doesn’t work, some windows 11 stuff is being overwritten by windows 10, his IP address appears to be sent to random addresses, occasionally crypto-related, when he had the windows xbox thing installed, it kept recording things, and whenever he tries to reset his phone, he ends up with Cashapp, Stripe and Solitaire installed

I don’t know what to make of this: my best guess is that he’s either overreading things or affected by some bizarrely persistent crypto miner. he says there’s no common point for everything, but I definitely don’t believe that without proof

genuinely no idea how to proceed, this has apparently cost him a job and is likely to cost him another in the near future

he's bad at internet porn and doesnt want to admit it. next

it doesn't help that hidden OEM partitions that will reinstall software and apps are thing that legitimately exist.

windows does occasionally flash CMD screens when it runs some maintenance scripts and it looks exactly like something you'd see in a hacker movie

it wouldn't shock me if the windows system folders had legacy files from previous versions with creation timestamps predating the OS itself (I'm just looking a the file index and apparently Google Drive has files from 1980 wtf)

he probably has some undiagnosed mental issue but I'm just modern computing doesn't help

weirdly this is like the only part he’s been able to show - he runs regular ip checks and it’s occasionally showing up as him being located at a German crypto company, at the ICANN headquarters, etc

everything else I’m having to like talk him down and explain why it’s normal or bad but unconnected to the other bad things, like telling the guy that the location icon flashing up for a second at launch is not an actual indication of hacking

time to tell him not to use the ‘security focused browser that gives you free ethereum’, I’m sure that’ll be fun

To be fair, these "trace your IP" sites tend to show me in random cities around the region. I'm sure it's because of the way my ISP hands out IP addresses or whatever.

Also, this reminds me that I once met a person who was convinced her 'magnetic aura' or whatever would cause computers to break down whenever she got near them, including cash registers and stuff at stores when she went to buy something.
