I think I will give it a try on the harder difficulty setting and see if that helps. Most goons play Rimworld on Randy, right? That means pretty big swings in difficulty that other games aren’t going to provide.

Yeah, Randy is the Rimworld thread received wisdom for how to play pretty much regardless of other factors. I certainly don’t find the general idea that Rimworld has set a standard for folks who play it about how long-term challenge and progression ought to work wild or unlikely. No matter how different from the retail standard players prefer to play it, I can’t recall anyone in the last five years of Rimworld thread who wanted to turn off difficulty scaling and/or most types of events entirely.

I don't want to play Rimworld without a couple of favorite mods and they're taking their sweet time to update. I'm getting the shakes.

Trams don't usually have signals as such, especially not running on the roads. They may when running on dedicated track. I don't even think they have a dispatcher telling them when they may proceed at an intersection like this.

trams usually have parallel traffic lights when they're sharing road space, but it's up to the driver to do the correct thing

That's probably right, it looks like a part diamond intersection that's deadlocked, because all three entered the critical section simultaneously. This cannot be the first time something like this has happened, I have to assume that at least one of them ignored a traffic light or something that would otherwise be SOME kind of signalling.

The trick with Randy is that the other two are designed to escalate the threat over time and force you to either finish the game or lose. Cassandra does it quickly, phoebe does it slower, but Randy doesn’t work that way. Since many people like making an ant farm and don’t want to “finish” the game, randy is often preferable. I think this has changed at some point, but it was definitely true pre-royalty.

Nah, nothing has really changed about the three storytellers included with retail, most storyteller variation comes from mods according to my impression.

Last I played/followed the game, Phoebe scaled threat at the same speed as Cassandra except with fewer events, especially raids. Because raids are one of the bigger influxes of economic material Phoebe was generally harder than Cassandra since you stopped getting regular deposits made in the fight bank while raids still scaled up and the bad events initiated by escalation come online at regular schedules. The best RimWorld experience is finishing the game with Cassandra with runner up to starting with Cassandra and switching to Randy when you have enough raid stuff or are otherwise tired of the routine fights to stick around endlessly. The first few months of full Randy need either a high level of mastery to deal with unfortunate out of depth events or the want to reload and try to get a different event roll, which you can just avoid by changing storytellers.

Rimworld: this isn't all about storytellers, you can also lower the difficulty.

What rimworld has in common with DF and what a lot of colony sims lack is that things can go to poo poo *extremely* fast off of random luck, leading to a very chaotic feeling. Whoops, a stray arrow from an attacking tribe went right through the brain of someone not even involved in the fight, causing their pet to go berserk and destroy the power supply, causing your base to lose all AC in the middle of a heat wave and destroying all your food. At least you have some dead tribesmen to eat. There are games that are hard and make you have to micro a lot, but they rarely have those huge spikes of FUN like RW or DF.

I feel like I'm going insane in Factory Town. Something in the way it works and is presented just fucks with my brain so that I can't think of how to properly chain resources in an automated way and end up with ridiculous amount of wagons and workers running about everywhere. Basic building material isn't a problem and research has few hops to deal with, it's the food and trade goods to housing that just causes my brain to fry once you get past the basic stage of farms and animal pastures. Everytime I try and play with any sort of efficiency it quickly devolves into either the rats nest of workers or building everything off-site in a dozen different production locations, most of with underused duplicate buildings, and then a grand central train station made out of my trade posts, taverns, and food markets on the edges of my housing center. Looks ugly as hell but I legitimately can't wrap my brain around how to do it better.

I haven't played very much, but this feels like a good sequel/take-off of the Uncharted Waters series. So far so good total recommend for anyone in this thread with a passing interest in the Port Royale games and like 6 bucks to burn.

Yeah, I'm hesitant to try and block this content, less I block stuff that I might play that might have a boob in it or something. The tags are wonky and I might end up blocking the GTA series or something. Not this sale, but the previous sale, Steam had not one, but three marquee hentai games it tried to sell me at the top of store banner. Just because I own Disgaea doesn't mean I'm into loli match-threes
