i agree with you, that's wanting it both ways without any of the commitment. are these electronic trap beats or was the drummer somehow whipping them up? i suppose i could listen for myself but i'm a very busy man with lots of responsibilities.

It's a ryhthym/drum style popular in modern hip hop. If you just type "trap beat" into google or youtube you can hear what it sounds like.

They don't even have the benefit of being non-native English speakers.

They're not a joke band per se so much as a serious band that believes that evil is real and at work in the world and its agents are skeletons that fall down to xylophone noises when you hit them

e: If you think those song titles are something else, last year they put out an album called The Night Of The Ambush And The Pillage By The Queen Ann Styl'd Furniture, Animated By One Of The Dozen Or So Spells That Thee Eastern Vampyre Has Studied

if someone says that a metal song has trap beats then i expect them to be in the actual song where drums would be and not just thrown in at the beginning as an intro.

they're not a joke as such they're just deliberately being silly, because they also sound very silly(ildjarn/summoning combined basically)

I am barely into the new So Hideous album and it is kicking my rear end. Wow.

I'm having a blast listening to all of the lists on here so far! Echoing the following because they made a huge impression on me aside from the ones I previously mentioned:

Lunar Shadow - Wish to Leave
Windfaerer - Breaths of Elder Dawns
Eternity's End - Embers of War

One lesson in, he's a cool guy but also a pretty by-the-book teacher, and I'm not sure if I'm digging the vibe yet. I also booked a lesson with Adon Fanion from Ghost Ship Octavius to try a different approach, and see which one I like better and want to continue with. Gonna meet with him midweek.

I wasn't looking to do anybody subgenre-famous honestly, it just works out that metal voice teachers are so hard to come by that you end up with name-brand people as often as not.
Update: Adon is loving great, awesome vibe, a lot of energy. Guy had me belting while on the floor doing situps to demonstrate something about the diaphragm. Would recommend 1000%
