yeah, fire systems are a good thing about living in a newer building. obviously you have the sprinklers which are heat-triggered by glass bulbs, but also smoke detectors and CO detectors are wired into the alarm system so the building can tell if you disconnect them to smoke a joint or because the battery died, and they'll give you a day or so to fix it, then they'll warn you with the required 24 hrs notice and come in and fix it themselves.

it's like $10 more to get combo CO/Smoke detectors with ten year lithium batteries. house had zero smoke detectors when i bought it, and i think it cost me $110 for a 6 pack of them. code inspector seemed kinda shocked that i went out of my way to put them up before being asked too. dogg, i don't wanna suffocate in my sleep or worse somehow survive with massive brain damage from lack of oxygen.

It blows my mind when I see gas ranges in Kiwi homes with no extractor fan. Then I remember all the windows are poo poo, the insulation is non existent, the ceilings are poo poo, the walls are poo poo, the floors are poo poo, and the houses here are basically glorified tents, only with more mould.

my kitchen was designed with an opening skylight above the stove, but most of the time it just pushed the smoke down into the kitchen and into the other rooms
