Looks like Rush won't be sticking around permanently, BF twitter confirms it's going away in a week. This is probably the dumbest possible course of action they could take - re-introduce a well-loved game mode that actually makes the new maps tolerable and with much smoother performance, let people play it for a few weeks and really start to enjoy it, then just rip it out of the game and never talk about it again. The negative backlash over it is going to be massive, and incredibly easy to avoid. The pessimist in me believes that they only want to rotate game modes in and out because the population is dying so fast that they fear heavy dilution of players across too many modes, or something equally moronic.

That sucks, and other fps switch out game modes and it’s dumb as heck. Looking forward to being able to disable cross play immediately tomorrow.

I mean the problem is You go back to expansions and either the expansions fail to sell or you repeatedly divide the gameplay population and you get where you can't find a decently full match of the expansion a few months past launch. Finding a full Euro Forces/Special Forces/Armored fury server was a nightmare a month or two post launch and people defaulted back to just playing 24/7 Karkand/Gulf/Dragon Valley. I didn't play the BF3 expansions besides Return to Karkand so I can't comment on that, but others have similar in this thread. or You go live service, incentivizing developers to play this weird insane balancing act of putting enough poo poo in with the base game that it's good enough to develop a player base and we need to update it to keep up the player numbers, but we also need a lot of worthwhile vehicles for monetization so whales can keep the gravy train rolling. You can basically see this in 2042 with the tarkov mode and the specialist system neither of which add much to the base game besides a place to put loot boxes[eventually] or new fancy skins or more cynically new specialists you buy.

They definitely should have delayed. sure, but dice has always had a lot of turnover and I would be exceedingly surprised if their past games were all made by long-time employees. It's certainly possible that newer employees combined with the struggles of wfh during covid slowed down the dev pipeline (which it almost certainly did), but I think the suggestion that there is some intangible spirit of battlefield gameplay that only 5+ year employees can properly implement is just ridiculous. Similarly the suggestions that like 40% of the devs don't play FPS just seems equally irrelevant to the final product compared to, again, the huge issues with how rushed the development clearly was and how obtuse frostbite is to work with and the dice/ea corporate structure the issues with bf2042 seem almost entirely like stuff that comes from a rushed development timeline so yeah I agree 100% that it should've been delayed. There are enough flashes of stuff done very well that imo if they released this with another year of polish they'd have had a barn burner of a game

Maybe it was the people who have been around longer and that are now in higher positions are the ones that hosed up on some of the direction of the game, tone mismatch etc. I just wanted to point out that 6 months in or 2 years in may not matter as much if this is still your first project and the real lessons come from after you get one shipped. A lot of this comes down to bad project management and unrealistic timelines. I'm stoked for the patch tomorrow. It will be nice if the sound tweaks make a substantial improvement. Did not manage to get my Tier 1 prox grenade badge in time but oh well. No mention in the patch notes of the weekly challenges or 64 player conquest mode coming tomorrow so hopefully that's still happening.

I was kinda annoyed cause I wanted more DLC servers one weird quirk of the server browser is that the more options you select, the more it shows. So instead of not selecting any map or player count for the filter, select all the maps and every player count besides the lowest one to get it to populate more servers

Soflam trip report: If your coordinating with friends you can wreck every vehicle on the map. 2x Wildcats with 1 person spotting will dominate the field. We racked up close to 40 vehicles killed between the three of us. In a pub match though you'd be lucky for anyone to even notice. Its super powerful and flaring/smoking out of it doesn't seem to totally break the lock.

So they removed BF3 and 1942 Conquest and BC2 Rush modes from Portal and now just added "Conquest/Rush of ages" which randomly places you in a map and equivalent game so you don't get to choose what you play anymore. I just... I don't know what they're thinking that they're doing but it's really dumb. I guess they're consolidating it all to a single matchmake button so that matches have a chance to be more populated but you better like what you get or gently caress off I guess.
