STOP DOING HEROIN

Voices of Wrestling Patreon posted:

This week, Naoya Nomura and Koji Iwamoto announced their departures from All Japan Pro Wrestling. Nomura publicly announced that he would like to wrestle one more AJPW match before moving on. Iwamoto has stated he wishes to take some time off from wrestling altogether.

In regards to Iwamoto. I have been told that he has been at odds with the AJPW office, in particular Tajiri, for some time, a situation that has heated up over the last six months. Seeing openings at the top of the card, in particular among young talent, Iwamoto had been pushing for a move to heavyweight. It was announced a few months back that he would be competing as an "openweight" wrestler, which he initially took as a positive. However, when it became apparent that the extent of the elevation was a mid-card tag team with Ryuki Honda, Iwamoto saw that as a dead end position and asked to move back to junior, with the mindset that at least as a junior he was being pushed. Iwamoto's thought process is that now that he's in his 30's, with no feeling that AJPW has any interest in giving him a serious push as a heavyweight, that it was time to leave the company altogether.

GLEAT made an offer to Iwamoto as recently as August, for when his current AJPW deal expires. There are some inside the locker room who believe Iwamoto's public statement, where he claims he wants to take a year long sabbatical from pro wrestling (which is also what he told the office), is a smokescreen, with the idea that Iwamoto wants out of his deal now so he can jump to GLEAT immediately. I was unable to confirm when Iwamoto's current contract with AJPW expires, but the obvious speculation is January 2023, which would line up with Iwamoto's claim that he wants to take a full year off from pro wrestling.

One source indicated that most of the departures can be traced to Jun Akiyama's exit from the company, and the old crew struggling with the new Tajiri led office. This lines up with Yusuke Okada's 2020 departure, which we reported at the time on The Flagship as loyalty to Akiyama and disagreements with the new booking office.

Tajiri is not well liked. One Japanese wrestler told us, in reference to the core AJPW trained roster, "Everyone hates Tajiri. Many of the wrestlers hate him, but won't leave because of their loyalty to others like Takao Omori and Suwama."

The wrestler did note that Tajiri is generally well liked by the ex-Wrestle-1 members of the roster. As noted, Tajiri is now leading the office, along with Shuji Ishikawa and Suwama.

"Ishikawa and Suwama are more popular than Tajiri, but I don't like them either because they have a reputation for pushing themselves. I do like Mr. Omori."

Nomura has told roster members that his exit is the result of both injuries, and that "his loyalty lies with Akiyama, and not to the current Tajiri led office". Nomura was in the original plans for the upcoming Champion Carnival, but was pulled when he gave his notice. He plans to wrestle one more match for the company before moving on. An obvious landing spot would be with Akiyama in DDT, which is where Okada ultimately ended up, but that would depend on health. His career could very well be over.

Zeus is open to and expected to continue with AJPW as a part timer, but his priority will be rebuilding Osaka Pro. His departure is said to be business related, and not having anything to do with office heat or loyalties to Akiyama.

Sounds like AJPW is kind of a shitshow again

And that really sucks for Nomura

Catching up with Man Crush from the other day, and I really enjoyed Harada/Ogawa vs HAYATA/YO-HEY. Hayata attacked Ogawa before the bell and threw him to the outside, leaving both Harada and Yo-Hey to shrug at each other and go stand on the apron while the Stinger guys sorted their poo poo out. Also a very funny moment where Hayata backed Harada into his corner and Yo-Hey tried to tag in by tapping Harada's back, but after Harada and the ref started staring at him he sheepishly tagged Hayata and got in the ring. Yo-Hey should leave PdMdJ and join Stinger again so he can be with his wife, Hayata is at his best when he's teaming with someone speedy

Not a huge week in wrestling. Except for the biggest & best spectacular of the year every year of course. The Never-Ending Story of World Tag League & BOSJ finally reaches a conclusion. Another Nomura Strong title defence, this time against candidate for most improved of 2021, Daichi Hashimoto. Dragongate have their final KBS & Korakuen shows of the year as we zoom towards Final Gate. All Japan potentially bid farewell to 3 stars in one night, Junior ace Koji Iwamoto, potential future ace Naoya Nomura & upper card mainstay Zeus are all leaving. Iwamoto will almost certainly pop up somewhere else, potentially in DDT as he's close to Jun Akiyama as Yusuke Okada, Nomura may be done & may not be, no one knows, & Zeus is taking over the ownership of the promotion he debuted in & trained with, Osaka Pro.

But gently caress all that. 16th ANNUAL GREAT SPACE WAR COMES TO KORAKUEN HALL. Very few Michinoku Pro shows pop up online these days but this always does because it's a car crash spectacle like nothing else. It's pure loving nonsense. Honestly, you will want to watch this match, swear to god. To quote former Chikara star Gran Akuma: "You can't fill out your year end ballots until you watch Great Space War."

I was at a Diana show two years ago and they'd booked a comedy legends tag with Jaguar Yokota, Shinobu Kandori, Shiro Koshinaka and Great Sasuke. It was mostly just based around the comedy of Yokota and Kandori who are usually very serious wrestlers doing Koshinaka's hip attack spots.

Sasuke still took a dive from the top rope all the way to the unprotected wooden Korakuen floor for absolutely no reason.
