so after reading about it after nearly drowning on my coffee when i read it, seems less bad than what I assumed?

they're just selling a NPC modeled after whoever buys it but i guess because it's an NFT it can be traded/sold by the person who bought it before it's uhh modeled i guess?

i still hate it but it's not as bad as i thought

Let's be honest, vanilla stalker has never been the best just a template for mods. 90% of my play time in stalker was mods after i did an initial play through of vanilla.

This sums up my views on the series and I always feel like going to the stalker subreddit to get myself downvoted into oblivion by posting this response when new players in 2021 are told to play SoC vanilla. I don’t know any quicker way to turn a potential fan away than to recommend that.

I think I played 30 min unmodded before saying “well this game is poo poo.” And then months later discovered the Complete 2009 mod which made the game pretty fun. Then it was finding this thread and going “wait, there are mods (like OGSE at the time) that make this game extremely immersive and awesome? And then I became a real fan of this series.

If I was a completely fresh player and someone told me to play some lovely survival game mod instead of the well crafted original campaigns I would spend an hour getting them to work and then give up after five minutes of gameplay. lets not start revising history to say that stalker is actually bad. its good.

Vanilla stalker was great to play... once then never again. I beat SoC and CoP exactly once then got some mods and played the poo poo outta those multiple times. I got midway through clear sky before CoP came out and everyone just kept telling me how terrible the last part was so i skipped it and went to CoP. The vanilla gameplay makes you appreciate the mods so much more because all the things you wanted to do in the original you can now.

Hell every time i get to the CoP in anomaly all i can remember is all the amazing quests and now when i go to them it's such a let down haha. I don't know what EFP did to the agroprom underground but they made it much better because they got legit loving footsteps as the ambient sound it's so scary.

Yeah I've never come to STALKER for the pure sandbox thing, which I assume is Anomaly's best feature because a lot of the questline (which I know wasn't made by the Anomaly devs themselves) was...kind of bad, so ultimately CoP remains my overall favourite STALKER experience.

Is the NFT NPC going to be universally killed in everyone's game? And will that just make him stronger?

I know nothing about NFT's and pine for the 2000's where we just had incongruous product placement like Bawls energy drink crammed into games.

Not going to affect the game whatsoever. Its basically building a bridge, and asking a full blown large adult idiot to give you as much money as possible and that they'll then own a steel beam in the bridge 'in spirit'.

CoP was the only Stalker game I was able to stomach as vanilla as I recall CS crashing a bunch for me, but drat I loved the atmosphere of the great swamp in CS. Honestly really glad I stuck with the series years ago, as the immersion is unmatched. I just got back to my Anomaly 1.5.1 game that I started earlier this year and it’s a blast. I’ve basically been going up and down the route from Clear Sky’s hideout to Rostok and selling valuable artifacts to the Yantar guys. It’s been long enough where I haven’t missed the main stories just yet, but eventually I’m sure I will reinstall OGSR and something like Misery (or whatever is better these days) for CoP

Yeah CoP with that sigoris mod was prolly the cleanest stalker experienced i've had but you lost a lot of the replayability because it was the same poo poo in the same levels. I love EFP and anomaly because you have so many levels with a ton of variety. You'll never match the well built quests of CoP but gently caress is it fun going balls to the wall with multiple different gun/suit combos and going into insane maps.

Even in anomaly just choosing a different faction will drastically affect game play because of how the games scripted to counter the player. You can play multiple very different runs just by starting as a different faction though it helps to roleplay a bit too haha.

This seems weird to me. SHoC is a delightfully well-crafted experience that has some issues, but it's perfectly fine on its own. CoP is great too. The Complete mods don't make the game fundamentally different, they just smooth out some rough edges. Saying stalker sucks but complete is great is not something I understand at all.

And I for sure would have bounced off stalker hard if I had been told to play anomaly or any of the sandbox stuff first. Having a story is important, having some structure to the playground. Anomaly is great, as someone who already knows everything the game has to throw at me, but I would never want someone to try that or Misery or whatever first. That'd be a disaster.

Edit: About the 3 people they plan to scan in to the game as NPCs. What are the chances they get /spit on by the community like how in WoW classic people would dog pile on people with real money paid for mounts? I feel like people will hunt these three people down in game for fun.

The crypto rewards seem to be to have your name in the game in wallets and messages as loot as well.

I love the mag system it really changes up how everything works. Clip fed shotguns are no longer kings because gently caress having to constantly top off my 5 saiga mags while outfits having more mag room changes a ton of stuff too. There's no longer 1 outfit to rule them all because you gotta balance mag space on top of everything else.

I still hate that even with a SSM and 70% heat resists i still get 1 shot by a loving flame anomaly. I just refuse to travel through the flame anomalies in wild territory so i'll walk there then just fast travel to zantar hahaha.

Yeah I mean it was over a decade ago when I first played and it was a couple years after launch, but my hazy memory was loving the concept but it seemed to hate the fact that I was trying to play. I know Complete 09 is pretty obsolete, but something about it really made the game great if not overly easy. I know I said I thought vanilla was poo poo on my first experience, but I mainly meant the bugs and wondering why this lovely starting pistol was missing at point blank haha.

That reminds me, this Loner start with modded Anomaly somehow had me get quite lucky with the PM I started with. Not sure how or why, and it was probably luck and panic fire but I was reluctant to stash the piece of poo poo away. My busted rear end Toz-66 has saved my rear end more than anything as well. It’s like a heavily flawed, yet beloved friend. Playing with the magazine mod has made things interesting, and so this M4 Butcher I just swiped will be great after I find some mags, ammo, and manage to Frankenstein it back from 30% :v:

Arghy
Nov 15, 2012

Yeah an important thing to remember with fixing guns is they often got the parts inside so field strip it first then see the quality left over as you can save some money some times. EFP also redid the entire ammo crafting so save old ammo and break it down because it's really easy to make into proper ammo.

I haven't even bothered with them, they're just pure punishment. I've heard the easy way to do it is be an ecologist, get their exoskeleton and five full emptys. Live off red bull and epinephrine as you are a walking tank with lung cancer.

Is Escape from Pripyat as customisable as Anomaly? I've heard the economy is stupidly brutal and there's a dearth of mutants since the modders wanted to make the game Tarkov-like.
