one of my current bitcoin coworkers actually used to work at a cryptocurrency startup. he left when he realized everyone else was mainlining flavor-aid and couldn't even conceive of a reality where success wasn't guaranteed, so they didn't really have any sensible strategy

I find him fascinating because he seems to have seen through the bullshit, but apparently stopped short of realizing that it's all bullshit

I'd ask him what vision and potential he sees in this garbage, but... y'know. I don't want to have a conversation with a bitcoiner about cryptocurrency

see this is obviously stupid because the definition of "groks the vision" is "agrees with me that bitcoin is cool". but i don't think that person even realises that they have constructed a pointless tautology that purports to defend what they are saying and make it meaningful

there's a ton of bullshit jargon in the whole "web3" sphere yeah, and people like that frequently try really hard to sound smart by writing really weird. in this case though i happen to have seen some of her tweets before via retweets/quote tweets, so i have a bit more context

i guess the idea is a trusted party would take more in fees than The Collective even though the collective has to run a db thats a billion times less efficient.

idk there’s probably instances where that would be true but that also spits in the face of libertarian free market principles where a more efficient trusted party would show up to drive the price down.

this person probably doesn't want a libertarian world they want some kind of weird stateless codeislaw market socialism, which is why they're the most infuriating kind of bitcoiner because they are actively pushing poo poo in the other direction
